Christine O’Donnell’s Private Piggy Bank

Filed in Delaware, National by on December 30, 2010

The Washington Post has a good wrap up of yesterday’s big story of the Federal criminal probe of Christine O’Donnell’s misuse of campaign funds.

The federal inquiry by the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware and the FBI was first reported by the Associated Press. But law enforcement sources said it is very preliminary and has not progressed to a full-fledged criminal investigation, as the AP reported. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe is ongoing.

The Post article goes on to speculate as to the source of the investigation.

The CREW [Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington] complaint to federal prosecutors cited an affidavit signed by David Keegan, a former aide to O’Donnell. He said that in 2009, O’Donnell paid two months rent out of her campaign funds, and also used the funds for meals, gas and a bowling outing.

And I love this quote from Melanie Sloan, Executive Director of CREW:

“It’s quite clear that O’Donnell was misappropriating money for personal expenses. My understanding is that she treated the whole thing like her piggy bank.

I would be remiss if I didn’t link you to The News Journal article, far longer and much more in depth than the Post piece. Don Adams, president of the Independence Hall Tea Party PAC, had this to say, “Miss it by this much.” Just kidding, this is what Adams had to say:

“It seems to me that she was more interested in getting attention than she was interested in winning a race. Whether she was ever a serious candidate, that’s for Christine and her team to decide. But I have my doubts.”

The Christian Science Monitor looks at 6 ne’er-do-wells in the election starting with Christine O’Donnell and finishing with Alvin Green.

As for the ‘Poll” votes on what COD will be doing in 2011: Does anyone really think COD will be working at all? She loathes ‘real’ work. She is the ‘Talented Ms. Ripley TETLEY.’ And a “Master’ Grafter.

Donviti, btw, COD often refers to the “people who will line up ‘behind’ me.” I take it that’s what she means 😉 And that’s what you would like to do to her!

The poll should have an “All of the above” option.

O’Donnell complained among other things that the criminal investigation was preventing her from writing the last chapter of her book. LOL!

  6. Boxwood,

I think O’Donnell should be thrilled about the investigation, it will get people interested in her again and help with sales of her book.
