It Was Joe Biden Hiding In The Bushes

Team O’Donnell released a statement about the criminal investigation of her campaign finance spending (via Dave Weigel at Slate:

December 29, 2010.  Wilmington, DE: Christine O’Donnell’s campaign released the following statement in response to investigation rumors and states that Democrat insiders warned her that the “Establishment” would use phony investigations to end her political career.

Campaign Manager Matt Moran responded to the rumor of a criminal investigation, “We have heard absolutely nothing other than the same unsubstantiated allegations and rumors that have been circulating in the press for months.  If anything does materialize from this rumor, we will continue to fully cooperate as we have made every attempt to ensure we are in compliance with all rules and regulations.  The politically motivated charge was all started by false accusations by Christine’s political opponents, and ratcheted up by former Biden staffer Melanie Sloan and CREW with their false claims. Let us be clear:  there was no impermissible use of campaign funds. Period. This is just an ongoing effort by the George Soros-funded CREW and other liberal groups and individuals to intimidate and threaten Christine, even after the election.”

Christine O’Donnell continued, “Since anonymous sources are being taken seriously, please allow me to share some tips I’ve received and keep the tipsters’ identities anonymous.  We’ve been warned by multiple high-ranking Democrat insiders that the Delaware Democrat and Republican political establishment is jointly planning to pull out all the stops to ensure I would never again upset the apple cart.  Specifically they told me the plan was to crush me with investigations, lawsuits and false accusations so that my political reputation would become so toxic no one would ever get behind me.  I was warned by numerous sources that the DE political establishment is going to use every resource available to them.  So given that the King of the Delaware Political Establishment just so happens to be the Vice President of the most liberal Presidential administration in U.S. history, it is no surprise that misuse and abuse of the FBI would not be off the table.  And further connecting the dots, do you think it is just a coincidence that Melanie Sloan was a senior Biden staffer just before she joined CREW and filed her complaint against me?!

“I have faith that our supporters and the general public will see right through these thug tactics.  This is simply an Establishment trick to stop the anti-establishment Tea Party movement in its tracks.  Heck, the Presidency is at stake in 2012.”

As normal, there was no addressing of the actual allegations against her and it’s everyone else’s fault but hers. She’s the most put upon person in the whole entire world.

I’m shocked – SHOCKED, I TELL YOU! – that she blames everyone but herself.

  2. My favorite part is how the fate of the presidency rests in her hands.

  3. warren says:

christine is doing a fine job all by herself of making her political reputation so toxic that no one (with a brain in their head) would ever get behind her.

  4. You know warren, I keep thinking this and then I see she raised $7.3M in her Senate run. I think there’s a big audience for RW dumbasses, especially if they are attractive women.

  5. I wandered over to Delaware Politics to see what they were saying but they didn’t seen super supportive of COD in this one.

  6. Dirty Girl says:

Coz they see their asses going under the bus and want to at least TRY to maintain credibility…

I simply cannot believe she really said this:
“Given that the king of the Delaware political establishment just so happens to be the vice president of the most liberal presidential administration in U.S. history, it is no surprise that misuse and abuse of the FBI would not be off the table,” she said in the statement”

OMG – she is truly delusional….insane, a nut job….Insanity would be her only defense.

  7. ablomeke says:

Yes…Melanie Sloan went straight from biden’s staff and joined CREW with the express purpose of investigating Cristine O’Donnell!

Its all a conspiracy! Just connect the dots.

Whenever someone says that, you have to sit back and ask if they can read the numbers next to the dots…

  8. paratrooper18 says:

Too funny. The only apple cart she upset in the last election was the ability to con out of state tea baggers to pour millions into her campaign. Since she Delaware residents didn’t pour any money her way.

She should be happy with this, she now has something to write in her book.

  9. Clear Thinker says:

Not to say she’s right — but it does sound rather like a strategy that Sarah Palin’s opponents engaged in up north in Alaska.

Which has resulted in her becoming the leading GOP presidential candidate for 2012 (though not my preference). When is Delaware’s next senatorial election?

  10. enemy2k says:

Obama the most liberal administration ever? Hahahahahahahahahah!

  11. Republican David says:

It does sound politically motivated. When you tell the press and not the targets, something is wrong.

Even though this seems to be poltically motivated in its kick off, the Justice Department has many career professionals as does the FBI. I am sure they will get to the truth. I do not acquit or convict based upon opening investigations. That is not even to the level of indictments. It is just, there is a report and we want to see if it has merit. Let the pros do their job. If what we see is all there is, there will be nothing more. If you are right, then there should be more.

Let’s just let justice take its course.

  12. It does sound politically motivated. When you tell the press and not the targets, something is wrong.

Right, because the first thing you do when you’re investigating someone is run right to the target of the investigation. Also, it was one of the people interviewed in the probe that spilled the beans. As far as politically motivated – yeah, I guess investigating a political candidate’s use of political donations seems, well, political.

  13. Delaware Libertarian says:

Republican David, give it up. She used campaign funds for her own personal gain. Think about it, she was able to pay for a mortgage, without ever getting paid for a job for long periods of time. Her whole life reads like a season of “48 hours mystery” for a reason.

  14. Republican David says:

Yes, that is usually the process when it is time to reveal it. You don’t press release it before you request files and information, U. I..

I don’t believe your allegations, DL. I have information to the contrary. If what I have is true, this will blow over. If I am being lied to, the people doing it had better not lie to the feds or else this will end badly. I am content to let the pros do their job now that it is in their court–I believe illegitimately. Still I have faith in the professionals at FBI and Justice. No matter the motivation for the case, they will do their job. Let them.

  15. Paratrooper18 says:

The issue I have is if it is only covering the current campaign, and not the old campaign period. Really she did pro-bono work for 3 years and used campaign money to live on. give me a break.

And I would be motivated to dump on her if she stiffed paying me for work while she was out shopping on campaign money.

She is acting like this is totally out of the blue and has no idea how anyone could question her money management.

How many campaign mangers and other professionals quit her campaign? She had money, so payment for services was not the issue. Perhaps wanting to avoid being indicted with her was their motive for leaving.

During the election when this was coming out you could make the case it was politically motivated, but she is not running for anything any longer. Hmm that reminds me, what is she doing with the million or so she has left over? I forget what was the topic of this thread?

  16. Democrats actually have no motive to go after Christine O’Donnell. We want her to run every time and help elect lots and lots of Democrats.

  17. I seriously doubt O’Donnell will see any jail time. I imagine she’ll just pay a fine.

  18. Dirty Girl says:

@Republican David – get off the cross honey

    we need the wood………….

I have money that says if she is indicted or gets in any way in trouble all these “FBI professionals” that David wants to give a chance to, will be on a “witch hint” if they find anything

it called a persecution complex – catholics have it in droves and she is a catholic – and you David are a fool on a fools errand
there is no length you will not go to , to save her – you and Russ Murphy and the merry band of brothers….

well, please do us a favor, go down with the ship – we’ll toast your political demise and get on with making this county run .

  19. paratrooper18 says:

UI, Federal investigations like this are IQ tests. Yes if she does not play games and does not lie, she will only pay fines and have to refile FEC statements.

Here is where the IQ test comes into play. If she is not too swift in the brain she will attempt to destroy receipts and lie to investigators.

The problem that she really has is that she will have to amend her tax returns and count income. And it really can become a mess since the fines and taxes will have to come out of her pocket.

She has a book advance, but that will only go so far if she has to operate legally with her campaign money and actually pay her own way. I also question if she will make any money from a book beyond the advance. In Delaware she was only mildly interesting, and she didn’t get many votes. So she might well 100,000 plus copies? I doubt half of the people in Sussex county who voted for her can afford to buy the book.

  20. Dirty Girl says:

“Here is where the IQ test comes into play. If she is not too swift in the brain she will attempt to destroy receipts and lie to investigators.” –

she has already crossed that line but others have copies to cover their own hides already

we all already know she is not to swift..ergo…..

this “born-again virgin is about to get screwed….and she doesn’t even get kissed first either.

  21. Dear Unstable Isotope:
I have it on good — but anonymous — authority that the probe was launched by Gary Hart himself, codenamed Rageheart alias Ragy Hart in the documents.

  22. Anyone have time to watch the Today show this morning? The NJ is reporting that O’Donnell will address the charges on the show this morning. If you watch, tell us what she’s saying! It should be fun!

  23. phil says:

I think what David knows about how Christine pays her bills is exactly what he wouldn’t admit during the campaign: Christine has managed to live all these years without a job because she has a sugar daddy.( More than one?)

  24. Geezer says:

A couple of points: Nobody with the investigation is saying anything about it, so David’s charge that “they went to the press first” is incorrect.

AS for Melanie Sloan, she never worked for Biden, as in working for his office. She was on the Judiciary Committee under him, which is a much less direct connection.

    Here’s her CV:

Prior to starting CREW in 2003, Sloan served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia where, from 1998 to 2003, she successfully tried cases before dozens of judges and juries. Before becoming a prosecutor, Sloan served as Minority Counsel for the House Judiciary Committee, working on criminal justice issues for then-Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI). Sloan also served as Counsel for the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by then-Representative Charles Schumer (D-NY). There, she drafted portions of the 1994 Crime Bill, including the Violence Against Women Act. In 1993, Sloan served as Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, under then-Chairman Joseph Biden (D-DE).
