The Firewall That Never Was

Filed in National by on December 18, 2010

As cassandra_m wrote last month, New Castle County Executive Paul Clark’s firewall “isn’t even a proper fig leaf”. Clark’s recent “refusal to reappoint Planning Board member Mark Weinberg” is beginning to worry some that Clark’s marriage to Pam Scott, a land developer attorney, will be a greater influence than it ever was. Bill Dunn, activist and frequent Delaware Liberal commentator, said:

“The Weinberg situation implies there will be a purging of people who will not support the things the Clark administration is trying to accomplish. They will be looking to replace anybody who has been problematic for them and I expect it will only get worse.”

Delaware is a small state and the counties are even smaller, but is a marriage bed where New Castle County decisions should be made?

Does she use the typical 6 minute billing intervals?

  2. nemski says:

    Stop bragging jason330.

  3. Joe Cass says:

Was the vote count for the Dunn v. Sheldon nomination ever made public? I was there and beyond all doubt most were in the bag for Tim, including my union leaders.

Sounds like the Mrs. has everything in hand.

  5. Geezer says:

When are you going to learn that the unions control the Democratic Party machinery? No civic activist is getting anywhere without cooperation from the unions. No civic activist is going to be endorsed over a union stooge. No constituency of the party will be allowed to cut in line ahead of the union constituency. What part of this eludes you?

  6. Joe Cass says:

What part of this eludes you?The part where you show a backbone. My leadership knows where its membership stands and it ain’t always with them, capisci? Of course not because you’re another goober that dumps all unions into a one-size-fits-all concept.
A civic activist WILL get as far as his support is capable. Now Bill Dunn knows what a candy ass you are.

  7. Geezer says:

A backbone? For what? A candy ass? Why?

Are all union members this incapable of checking their tempers whenever they read something with which they disagree? My experience says yes.

  8. Geezer says:

“A civic activist WILL get as far as his support is capable.”

I have no idea what this means. But why don’t you point out for me a civic activist who has achieved elective office in, say, the General Assembly despite the opposition of the unions.

  9. Joe Cass says:

I don’t speak for any membership, but I know you and yours are beneficiaries of our struggle so my temper runs hot when candy asses like you mouth off. As for me doing your research for you, pound sand.

And before this goes further, I’m doing work at Nordstrom’s at Christiana Mall. I’ll walk out the loading dock door at 6pm all next week. Stop by and say “hi”.

  11. Republican David says:

I think Paul Clark is entitled to appoint his choice not Coons choice to the planning commission. He ran for council president representing a philosophy of land use. He should be man enough to implement it or step down.

  12. Dana Garrett says:

It’s hilarious to hear Geezer suggest that no Democratic politician can achieve political office in DE without union support. It’s hilarious because it’s not true. Most of the DE unions supported Carney over Markell, but a lot of good that did Carney.

But it’s also ironical to hear Geezer prattle on about his monomaniacal hatred. Just last night I talked to a local union leader who was moaning about Paul Clark. It seems that the unions can’t stand the man. Yet somehow he has managed to become NCC Executive without widespread union support. By Geezer’s reckoning that should be impossible.

  13. anon says:

It is important to note too that Clark will need to renegotiate new contracts with most of the county’s unions in 2011. The public will be watching to see if he takes a hardline in getting concessions or gives out sweetheart deals to gain favor for his reelect….

  14. Geezer says:

Monomaniacal, Dana? Sort of like your obsession with my dislike of unions?

Since your blind hatred impedes your reading comprehension, let me point out I said find a “community activist” who could get elected without union support. Neither of your examples qualifies.

One guy dislikes Paul Clark = “unions can’t stand the man.” Good thing you’re not teaching logic.

Be sure to say hi to your union buddies for me.

  15. Geezer says:

Joe Cass: Thank you for illustrating my point about union people. Name-calling and resorting to threats of physical violence are exactly what I expect from them. Except when they’re pretending to be civilized, they deliver every time.
