Rally with the Vice President on Monday in Wilmington

Filed in National by on October 31, 2010

This is cool.

Vice President Biden will be in Wilmington rallying for the statewide Democratic candidates. See here for more details and to RSVP.

Gates open at 3:45, expect airport-like security, and you are probably best off just bringing your cell phone or camera and leaving everything else. H. Fletcher Brown Park is at Market St and South Park Drive, right in front of the old Hercules Building at the Brandywine River.

  1. Who’s going? I’m planning to attend.

  2. Melissa says:

I want to go, but I have no idea where that park is and I can’t stand driving through Wilmington… I’ll see if any of my friends are willing to drive.

  3. a.price says:

Fletcher brown park is basically right on the river. It is also a pleasant walk from a few places. maybe we can give yesterday’s rally a run for it’s money!
( kind of depressed i missed it )

  4. meatball says:

Anyone know if the VP plans to attend Return Day?

  5. Blu Gal in De says:

The park is behind the Hercules Building – 13th & Market.

How to get there and where to park – Since I worked across the street from the Hercules bldg. for 14 years – allow me to lend a hand!

Parking garages – Hercules bldg., 1201 Market St. (Chase Bldg. @ 12th & Market – entrance on Market St.), 12th & Orange – entrance on Orange, 13th & King St. All of these are within 1 or 2 blocks. BUT – they will fill up really fast unless businesses close early – don’t count on it.

Street Parking – pretty non-existent – a few 2 hr. spots on Orange, no parking on 13th, plus, they will probably have the entire area blocked off. They did when Clinton was running for pres and was at the same venue.

Easiest would be to take Dart – most routes drop/pick up at Rodney Square – 2 blocks away. If you’re like me – Dart is a mystery!

There is a surface lot at 8th & Orange – 4-5 blocks away plus a parking garage across Orange.

I know there are other garages/surface lots up 12th St., but, not as familiar with those.

Obviously, the earlier you get into town, the more options. I’m going to try to make it if I can get my work caught up.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks, Blue Gal!

  7. delacrat says:

    expect airport-like security,”

Hope it’s the old airport security, because the “New airport pat-downs in the US are like ‘foreplay'”

  8. skippertee says:

    I’ll be there.
And if they’re doing the “new” pat-downs, well, I’ll just go through the line with the prettiest security professional and tell her to take her time.
Sometimes sacrifices must be made in the interest of furthering our democracy.
And don’t ALL lonesome people hunger for the touch of another?

  9. skippertee says:

“I don’t think I can walk any more. I mean…I been fallin’ down a lot.”-Ratso Rizzo to Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy the first X rated movie to win the Academy award for Best Picture.

  10. skippertee says:

I was removed from the rally after calling out “BABY” Biden on the Hale case.
Remember, he ran unopposed and this was the first time I had the opportunity to confront him.
Man, the crowd DID NOT like it.
    Neither did the WPD.
I was escorted out almost immediately.
I told the cops taking me out,”Hey, I’m not wearing a HOODIE and I am NOT a BIKER !!!”

  11. anon says:

I was removed from the rally after calling out “BABY” Biden on the Hale case.

Hey, isn’t that a First Amendment violation? You ought to complain to – oh yeah.

You have more balls than me to bring up Hale at an event controlled by WPD. Just make sure you keep your hands where they can see them. And wear your wire mesh taser-resistant long underwear.

  12. a.price says:

did that accomplish what you wanted, skip?

  13. uh oh. ruh roh – putting a name on mr. potty mouth!

  14. a.price says:

does this count as a public, self-outing?

  15. skippertee was standing right by me when it started. He also shouted more than “BABY.” He called Beau a name for female genitalia which I assume he meant as a compliment.

  16. I think my toes are starting to recover. It was darn cold! Poor me I have to go back out to pick up signs.

  17. a.price says:

so he was shouting profanity too! Skip, i kinda thought the way you were talking about the DC Rally indicated you had a realization about the need for civility….. guess not.

  18. jpconnorjr says:

it was a great rally seeing Ted K and hearing VP Biden in full throat was good for the soul. The Tea Party will linger but tomorrow is their LAST DAY in Delaware! COD get yer shit and get the f–k out of here!

  19. jpconnorjr says:

What our friend did today was rude and lacking in maturity and he was not truthful regarding his utterences. Might want to look at that buddy.

  20. Delaware Dem says:

Skippertree behaved disgracefully today. With friends like him, who needs the Republicans. There is a time and place for such confrontations. Beau has been out at other events throughout the state, so this was not the first chance you got to confront him.

Generally speaking, I will never understand why some liberals and Democrats think it is a wonderful strategy to cuss out and heckle fellow Democrats at rallies. It only makes you look like an ass.

  21. anon says:

The gentleman I saw was rude and shouting expletives which was totally uncalled for. He deserved to be removed. I have no basis for this, but he also looked like he could be inebriated–if that is not the case, then I apologize for the assumption, This was a rally the troops event, not make a scene or air differences. The repubs did it yesterday, we did it today. Not accceptable.

  22. jpconnorjr says:

Looks like you have your Asshat:)for today. Put him out there with the rest.

  23. skippertee says:

Since “Baby” ran unopposed, that was my first opportunity to confront him PUBLICLY on the DEREK HALE matter.GOOGLE it to refresh your memories.
“Baby” has never replied to the sensible letters I’ve written asking him about this case in the nearly 4 years since the murder of this ex-marine on November 6th 2006.
Public embarrassment and expulsion are a small price to pay in seeking justice for a TRUE HERO.
For the record: I shouted DEREK HALE at “Baby” ’til he responded when he was speaking.I called him a pussy as he left the stage.
I told Sam Latham to GO FUCK HIMSELF when HE told me to LEAVE.
Hey, I support the DEMOCRATIC party.I just have a FEW QUESTIONS I want answered from “Baby”.Is that TOO MUCH to ask from a PUBLIC SERVANT?

  24. skippertee says:

@ Joey Cassanova- They must have been third stringers. They didn’t get my NAME right. Rank amateurs.
I could’a been someone. I could’a made it to DONKEY. But no, my emotions overcame me.
So, I’ll just have to remain a rude ass, which is what I am, let’s face it, Joey.

  25. anon says:

Sorry, I’m not going go join the feeding frenzy on Skip. What he said had to be said. Damn shame he had to say it alone.

    Coulda picked another day though.

  26. jpconnorjr says:

Skippertee: Time and place buddy , wrong time wrong place you came off like a buffoon and still do. have a cup of coffee and move on

  27. Geezer says:

I agree with Skip’s sentiment, disagree with his strategy.

  28. anon says:

My, what nice pearls you are clutching.

Sometimes even buffoons are right. Skip called out Beau in his idiom, and I can’t fault him for that. I am sure there are lots of more polite clever civil people around here who are capable of calling out Beau in their own idioms which would be much more effective than Skip’s. But I’m not hearing any of that. Skip was filling a vacuum left by the “polite” people.

Skip: Courage, heart, and brains – two out of three ain’t bad. Bravo, pal.

  29. jpconnorjr says:

No he was behaving like an A—–e at an event with a completely differemt purpose. There are multiple ways the gentleman could have used to press his point. Wrong time, wrong place, wrong method and he got ZERO publicity for his cause beyound this blog. #Fail

  30. skippertee says:

He thinks he’s God’s gift to Delaware. But do you know what he is ? He’s a punk riding his old man’s coattails to higher political office he neither deserves or is capable of performing! And I’m glad of what I done to him, ya hear that? I’m glad of what I done!

  31. anon says:

    OK, so Skip= FAIL.

It’s your turn now. Show him the way it’s done.

  32. anonone says:

++ Geezer. You can do this type protest quite effectively without resorting to profanity. So, skippertee, if the Dems lose the House today, I am going to blame it on you.

  33. jpconnorjr says:

Anon, With all due respect I just took the time to read about a sad and disturbing case wih which i was passingly familiar. It is in the federal court system. While I am not sure of the grievance against Beau I am pretty sure he is constrained in a number of ways from public comment. There appears to be a long list of possible villians and I fail to see how Beau gets to be at the top. My opinion of the loutish behavior of yesterday has not changed. Also he still has not come clean on the language used in the presence of children.

  34. skippertee says:

Beau made his public comment when he failed to indict Sgt. Browne for the murder of Derek Hale.
The federal case is scheduled for April,2011.
    IF, it goes to trial.
Never the less, I can predict his widow will be receiving a HUGE settlement having followed this from it’s inception.
And we’ll know about it.FOIA, and all that.

  35. jpconnorjr says:

ok and i still see no accountability for your language in front of kids I know what you said I heard what you said in front of a lot of really young kids it did NOTHING to advance your Cause I rest on Bufoon and A—–e.

  36. skippertee says:

WHAT are you calling me out on?
    Calling Baby a pussy?
Sam Lathem told me to ” Get the FUCK out of here, we don’t need your kind”.
I responded in the same language he used.
BTW, who the FUCK are you and WHERE the FUCK were you when this all transpired?
As far as I’m concerned you’re just a pimple on the ass of Anne Landers’ dead body.

  37. a.price says:

jp, it is useless talking to him. He is a teabag. teabags dont really care about whatever cause they are screaming about. they like to scream, they like attention.

  38. skippertee says:

a.price-I am shocked you would say that.
Didn’t you read my previous posts?
Why are you abandoning me so casually?
I have a legitimate issue with the Attorney general.
My soul suffers at your decision.
My heart begins to rise….and angers….in defense.
    A TEABAG?

  39. a.price says:

whatever you may have said in previous posts is made moot by your ACTIONS. You demonstrated what you think to be acceptable behavior so what i hope is that you keep your teabag tactics away from my causes. They dont need to be poisoned. Im sure you’ve done a lot to raise awareness. stand on some street corners with petitions? got a lot of support from other members of government? Written a lot of letters to the papers? Ive never seen you even mention this on THIS BLOG!

  40. anon says:

I know what you said I heard what you said in front of a lot of really young kids

Derek Hale was tortured and shot in front of kids. Let go of your pearls.

  41. skippertee says:

“You make up your mind, you choose the chance you take
You ride to where the highway ends and the desert breaks
Out on to an open road you ride until the day
You learn to sleep at night with the price you pay

Now with their hands held high, they reached out for the open skies
And in one last breath they built the roads they’d ride to their death
Driving on through the night, unable to break away
From the restless pull of the price you pay

Oh, the price you pay, oh, the price you pay
Now you can’t walk away from the price you pay”-The Boss
    I’m willing to pay.
    How ’bout you a.price?
    What’s your price?

  42. a.price says:

that’s a stupid question. you’re willing to dishonor your cause by acting like a jerk and you did. Im not and i wont.

  43. skippertee says:

Spoken like a true believer and one of Beau’s Boys.

  44. anonone says:

skippertee, anybody who disagrees with a.price’s conventional lapdog democratic party thinking is automatically a teabagger. So don’t worry about it. Just chill with the profanity next time.

  45. Independent says:

Insults and name calling? Is that what your efforts now come down to?

skippertee – what you did is embarrassing – makes you no different than those you oppose.

Instead of accepting feedback from those with many of the same beliefs as you – you resort to the immature responses above. I believe you are better than this – please don’t prove me wrong.

  46. a.price says:

a lot of people disagree with me, A1. i just dont have any use for those who speak bumper sticker and represent my causes by acting like a child…. on either side. I just have a bigger problem with the ones who are “on my side” for making us all look bad. Im willing to do with the left’s extremists what the right doesn’t have the balls to do with theirs. It wins in the short run, but ultimately makes you look like Code Pink.

  47. anon says:

    what you did is embarrassing

The embarrassment is on those who are silent. I have reached an uneasy equilibrium on the Derek Hale story where I can accept that otherwise good people prefer to avoid the topic, and so I usually say nothing.

But attacking people who speak out on the story is actively offensive.

    – makes you no different than those you oppose.

You can’t be serious. That is a false equivalence that would make a Republican blush.

  48. Geezer says:

A lot of us don’t care to avoid the topic, and haven’t remained silent. None of which demands that I support Skip’s method. If you sound like a loon in making this point, it allows those who want to keep it quiet to paint it as a cause taken up only by loons.

Few on this blog (outside of some trolls) have more problems with Beau Biden’s involvement in Delaware politics than I do. I have said it often and for many years. That said, I do not recognize the person Skip claims “thinks he’s God’s gift to Delaware.” He has always struck me as rather sheepish about his political career.

This is not an endorsement of his performance in office. But let’s not pretend that any other AG, of either party, would buck the combined state, county and city police on this. My evidence: Find the last case of police brutality brought against any officer serving on any of those police forces. Get back to me when you do.

  49. anonone says:

a.price, you can’t call people who disagree with you from the left “Teabaggers” and then say you “just dont have any use for those who speak bumper sticker and represent my causes by acting like a child.”

Calling people names like “teabaggers” is both speaking in bumper sticker and acting like a child.

But let’s all be polite as the bankers steal our homes, the police electrocute and kill us, and our government is sold to the highest bidder.

  50. skippertee says:

Police brutality is not the issue. The issue in question is clearly one of murder in SOME degree.

  51. skippertee says:

I will further add this has allowed a precedent to be set.
Now,say,a teabagging attorney general is elected.
What will stop him from allowing the police to run wild on union members striking and killing a few guys and girls? What will stop him from investigating and finding the police were afraid of their lives because in the deep past of the union movement[in the 30’s] violence was turned to?
Our civilized society is rolling downhill rather quickly.
I agitate to shock and wake you up to this fact.
    So you’re mad.So be it.So FUCK you!

  52. Geezer says:

“Police brutality is not the issue.”

    Police behavior is the issue.

    “So you’re mad.So be it.So FUCK you!”

Actually, I’m not mad. You are. You also appear to be angry, and to have severe anger management issues. Please stop dragging down progressive causes with your personal issues.

  53. skippertee says:

Do you have a FUCKING degree in PSYCHOLOGY?
If not, Shut your old trap and take a nap!
I wasn’t even talking to you on that post.

  54. OpenMinded says:

This has been ongoing since 6, last night. Still high from sanely “getting along” on Saturday, I can’t believe that on this day, of all days, this thread has exploded in rage. That’s it, that’s all I intend to say about it. Shame.
