Friday Open Thread

It’s Friday! Only 4 more days until election day and only 1 more day until the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Keep Fear Alive! I hope you’re as excited as I am!

The Kentucky Democratic Party has made an ad from the notorious curbstomp incident. It’s showing on KY TV, but only after 10 p.m.

What do you think of the ad? I think it’s pretty devastating but I still think Rand Paul is going to win. It’s a real shame.

Interesting story out of Florida. Kendrick Meek held a press conference to deny he’s dropping out of the U.S. Senate race. Rumors are that he agreed to drop out, but changed his mind.

To prevent a Rubio win, the only plausible scenario was to have Meek drop out, throw his support to Crist, or both. Publicly, Meek refused to even consider the possibility. Privately, it appears a deal very nearly came together, thanks to the intervention of Meek’s most prominent advocate. Ben Smith had the scoop late yesterday.

Bill Clinton sought to persuade Rep. Kendrick Meek to drop out of the race for Senate during a trip to Florida last week — and nearly succeeded.

Meek agreed — twice — to drop out and endorse Gov. Charlie Crist’s independent bid in a last-ditch effort to stop Marco Rubio, the Republican nominee who stands on the cusp of national stardom.

Meek, a staunch Clinton ally from Miami, has failed to broaden his appeal around the state and is mired in third place in most public polls, with a survey today showing him with just 15 percent of the vote. His withdrawal, polls suggest, would throw core Democratic voters to the moderate governor, rocking a complicated three-way contest and likely throwing the election to Crist.

The Meek campaign is denying that any such deal was ever in place. But multiple reports from a variety of outlets note that the former president was involved in talks; Meek had expressed a willingness to consider dropping out; and Crist, who had originally reached out to the Clinton camp, was very much involved in the process.

Two races to watch are the 3-way races for Colorado governor (can Tancredo pick up enough Maes voters to win). In Florida, the latest poll has Rubio with 42%, Crist with 35% and Meek with 15%. If Crist picks up enough Meek votes he could actually win. That would certainly be an upset.

What you should do is go to McDonald’s, give them a large order, and then cancel it.

Why are we waiting until now to bring this up? These are great points, minus most of the wild-rhetoric. Of course, facts don’t matter in Teabag Land.

We received a report from the Sussex County Department of Elections that the Tea Party (don’t know which one) asked that they be allowed to sit at the checker tables at all Sussex County ED’s on Election Day so they could challenge voters. Kenny McDowell denied their request because they are not a recognized party in Delaware.

Also, we have heard that the teabaggers are bringing “Voting Protection Squads” from DC and VA to monitor the polls in DE on Election Day. My advice is to take a camera with you and record anyone who doesn’t look like they represent a candidate who starts to challenge voters and also record license plate numbers.
