Thursday’s Asshat of the Day

Filed in National by on October 28, 2010

Asshat doesn’t even begin to describe today’s winner. Bully, homophobe, f-tard come to mind.

Today’s winner is Clint McCance, who’s a member of the Midland, Arkansas board of education. McCance had a problem with Spirit Day last week. Spirit Day was a day for people to wear purple to show solidarity with gay and lesbian youth and to honor those who had committed suicide because of bullying and the problems of dealing with coming out.

McCance said that the only way he would wear purple on Spirit Day to honor fallen gay teens “is if they all commit suicide.” And how he would disown his own kids if they were gay. Can’t you just feel the love?

McCance is the president of Ty-De Services (“Offering the best hot water steam extraction cleaning for carpets, upholstery, and ceramic tile. Also offer 24/7 water restoration service”). He’s also a school district board member, which makes his attack on gay youth all the more upsetting, given his position of power to oversee their education.

The initial post read:

Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers committed suicide. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed therselves because of their sin. REALLY PEOPLE.

After folks started leaving comments on McCance’s Facebook wall (which is now locked down), he responded:

No because being a fag doesn’t give you the right o ruin the rest of our lives. It you get easily offended by being caleld a fag then don’t tell anyone you are a fag. Keep that shit to yourself. I don’t care how people decide to live their lives. They don’t bother me if they keep it thereselves. It pisses me off though that we make special purple fag day for them. I like that fags can’t procreate. I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other AIDS and die. If you aren’t against it, you might as well be for it.

Note the grammar. And he’s on a school board! WTF?

Thankfully, not everyone in Midland or Arkansas is as closed-minded as McCance. Dr. Tom Kimbrell, the director of the Arkansas Department of Education has called on McCance to resign.

I strongly condemn the statements that appeared on Mr. Clint McCance’s Facebook page. These comments in no way represent the viewpoints of the thousands of dedicated public school board members, administrators, faculty, staff and students in Arkansas.

“Every student in Arkansas must be educated in a nurturing environment, free from discrimination or harassment. The statements attributed to Mr. McCance constitute a significant departure from statements we expect from our school leaders. The divisiveness and disruption of these comments cause me to seriously question the ability of Mr. McCance to remain as an effective member of the Midland School Board.

And the school district has distanced themselves from McCance.

Clint, you’re a punk. You are a embarrassment to the Christian faith. You should be thrashed. But I will settle for your resignation from the Midland school board. And after you do that, if you’re man enough, crawl back into that dirty little cave you came out of and never show your face again in public.

A cave would be a step up for this troll, MJ.
A sewer seems more fitting a setting for slime like him.
I ran into ogres like this when I “pipe-lined”.
Their racism, sexism and bias against gays was rampant.
It was tough to find a decent person to hang with.

I love how he cant handle people saying mean things to him because he chose to disclose part of himself to the public…. Scientists think they have found the “liberal gene”. something liberals have that teabaggers dont. Does that mean liberals are more highly evolved?

I just saw on TV where he resigned from the school board.
Evidently, he had spoken with the parents of some of the dear kids who had recently taken their lives.
They must have touched a part of him he was never aware of.
He publicly apologized for his hateful comments, taking them all back.
I’ll reach into the sewer and help him up now.

It could go either way,a.price, if we’re talking Darwin here.

The man has uncountable miles to travel to come back from this tirade, but after watching AC360 last night with him, Anderson, and the gentleman who started a foundation after his own son committed suicide, I really think McCance at least has stepped foot onto the right path and has started walking those miles he needs to travel. It’s real easy to say that his emotional release last night is only because he got caught, but I recommend watching that entire segment, if possible. By the end, I think he is sincere. You have to consider that other gentleman got through to him. It’s still a shame that it likely took a person with direct experience to get through to him and he couldn’t realize it on his own, but if he’s truly aware, completely apologetic and sincere in that, then at least he’s come around.

I still can’t get what he did out of my head, nor can he ever justify it, but if he’s sincere about righting the wrong, as it genuinely appeared to be the case last night, he should at least be given that chance to make it right. He still gets no free pass, but he certainly shouldn’t be prevented from correcting his assault on humanity.

oh I know. I mean, extra isnt always an advantage… like with chromosomes.
But the chance that we can claim higher evolution than the Bags is not something i can’t pass up 🙂

Smitty, we’ll see what happens with this asshat. If he does what every other homophoic teabagger has done… (Carie Prejean et al) and becomes another Joe The Plumber figure fighting for white peoples’ right ro be jerks to everyone else, I wont be at all surprised. Anderson just got to him first. Wait till St Sarah and Brother Glenn convince him his free speech has been asulted. Wait till he gets offered money to speak at a Moms for Motherhood luncheon. These Teabags always reveal themselves. He’s just sorry he got in trouble.

a.price, I hear ya’, which is why I said he gets no free pass. There’s that part of me that wants to see that personal redemption still exists in reality and not just movies. I absolutely was blowing this guy off at the beginning of that segment last night, but by the end of it, I was thinking that there may be a chance here. I have no doubt that one guy who was with him, the one whose own son had committed suicide, had a lot to do with this, but even so, if it leads to a profound change, then that is a good thing. It will take time, though. Additionally, if he is honest in his wanting to make it right, he could actually become a good symbol for the efforts to end hate.

It’s possible, and i hope you are right. This new brand of conservative…. the teabaggers.. have proven time and again they are just hateful anti-liberal shock troops. I’ll feel better in a week from now if this goon hasn’t shown up on Glenn Beck talking about how facebook is a liberal media machine and his Christianity is under attack by godless liberals who want to force their daughters to have Muslim-gay-abortions.
I know that is hyperbole but based on what these people constantly present themselves as, i don’t think it is too far off. I will say he is much more of a man than most of them because he didn’t do the “im sorry IF i hurt anyone”. That is usually their favorite line.
