Another Incident Of Violence

Filed in National by on October 28, 2010

Is this really the path we’re on?

A 72-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 23-year-old activist protesting Dino Rossi’s Republican campaign for Senate in Washington state yesterday, according to local reports.

The incident occured outside GOP headquarters in Walla Walla County where the demonstrator, Christie Stordeur, was “one of five protesters standing about 40 feet from the entrance of the office,” according to the Tri-City Herald.

Stordeur and the other protesters “were wearing bags over their heads and holding a sign that looked like a check.” That’s when Victor Phillips, according to a Sheriff’s deputy on scene, walked over to Stordeur to “lift her bag off her head.” When Stordeur “lifted her arm in defense,” Phillips hit it “with ‘force.'”

What is it with men hitting and stomping on women?  There’s something very ugly bubbling up in Conservative Land.

  1. Perhaps he saw people like Rand Paul shrugging their shoulders and the media saying “meh” so thought it was o.k.

  2. Joe Cass says:

They love to put their hands on women! See a.price, this is what I’m talking about. Until the message returns that it self detrimental to continue attacking non violent opposition, they will keep stomping women. I’m not advocating pre-emptive aggression, rather an equal response. This is a micro cold war, and tit for tat is how we fought the cold war, and won, economics aside. I wouldn’t even consider females as targets but the Evan Quiestches and the Matt Morans of the world need to have reason to worry.

let’s just hope progressives dont sink to the level of this scum.
i cant stress enough how important it is to let these baggers expose themselves for what they really are. of course no one should just take a beating, but we must let them throw the first punch every time. Let them use intimidation tactics, let them be the one’s on the news seig heiling their Tbag politicians while old white men assault women and minorities in the camera shot.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/26/fox-news-wisconsin-democrats_n_774164.html THAT is an inspirational example of how WE should act. Fixed news ambushed a “Muslim looking” person who had the nerve to run for elected office…. even though he isnt white. His response? To let them cover the event and to speak the truth. It has earned him death threats.
The teabaggers have the nation’s attention. America is giving them a hard look as a possible path of how the country may go. I still have enough faith in the decency of the American people that, once they see who the Teabaggers REALLY are, this movement will be crushed and left for dead while a few wingnuts keep whining about the horrible oppression the suffer. The important thing for US to do is be an obviously better choice. THEY beat people who disagree with them, WE invite them to the discussion. that is how it has to be…. and i truly believe that any “progressive” who decides to go down the teabagger path of violence and intimidation is more of a threat to the cause than the Bags themselves.

i think you are wrong about how we “won” the cold war. the soviet union fell apart because of it’s people saw how much better we had it in the west and demanded a change. Capitalism and debauched western lifestyle succeeded where nukes would have wiped out all life on earth. I keep saying the way to beat the Taliban and it’s fellow extremist groups are not with bombs, but with MacDonalds, strip clubs, and amusement parks.

that aside, what you’re suggesting gives the other 80% of americans 2 choices. one side is violent and extreme and is ewwwwwww liberal
the other side is violent and extreme and wants to lower taxes and supports the troops. you’re a smart guy, the average american who doesnt read blogs will go with who?
we have to be the non-violent choice.

  5. Joe Cass says:

No a.price. I don’t have it in me to stand aside and witness a beating. If one of mine attack an opponent unprovoked I will act for the well being of the opponent and I will show my ally the door with a few lumps for lessons. “Evil flourishes when good men do nothing.”
It appears you and I have competing definitions of evil. As I’ve said, I respect your position, part of me wishes I could feel the same. My childhood was violent and erratic and I haven’t purged the system.
Let me ask you, if Colley’s crew were doing a number on you, would you want me to intercede? Or are you satisfied to play the martyr?

  6. V says:

Older men beating down younger women trying to have a voice (in both instances).

I can think of no better description of Conservatives.

Good for the deputy “immediately stepping in” in this situation. If only that had happened in KY.

  7. aprice says:

dont get me wrong. I feel the rage when i see that video of Randy’s rally. the same anger i feel toward every southerner when i watch Mississippi Burning. I also wouldn’t take a beating… id fight back with everything i had at my disposal. I would also STOP a beating and hope that someone would help me.
I think i have a better understanding of your position, and it seems you are also against starting fight…. which is all i ask. dont start the fight. and it doesnt count that “they have already started it”. Those attacks have already happened and the event is over. What will last forever is images of conservatives assaulting people who dont think like them.

  8. delacrat says:

Of the 14 signs of fascism ….

    5. Rampant sexism.

” Beyond the simple fact that the political elite and the national culture were male-dominated, these regimes inevitably viewed women as second-class citizens…..”

  9. cassandra m says:

What will last forever is images of conservatives assaulting people who dont think like them.

And you are thinking this counts for something? Conservatives have been moving the bar for acceptable behavior BACKWARDS for years. Why do you think there is typically a collective yawn from the media on stuff like this? It is expected from them and these conservatives are busily working on making this belligerent and violent behavior NORMAL. But only for them.

Lasting images of their bad behavior need to be associated with a strong moral condemnation. All too often, though, we expect the model to show itself has inherently bad, but ignore how well they have been able to make this normal behavior.

And we won the Cold war by bankrupting the Soviets and damn near bankrupting ourselves in that crazy arms race.

  10. Joe Cass says:

a.price, I sadly recall the childhood lament,”He started it! whimperwhimpersniffsniff.” I am down with you. Violence has no place in our political discourse until the violence erupts. With that said, may I leave you with lyrics to a popular song, best covered by The Me First & The Gimmie Gimmies: “I Will Always Love You”
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you’ve dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.

  11. aprice says:

joe, the words borrowed by Fat Mike ring true. Glad we are on the same side.
BTW, ive been listening to the Decline A LOT lately.

  12. V says:

My favorite is the version by the lady who wrote it, Dolly Parton.

  13. aprice says:

yeah, V. but the punk version is always awesome

  14. Joe Cass says:

A.Price, truth is, we’re on the American side. A great nation that has seen too many hardships since inception. The birth of this great country led to the downfall of an empire. The rise of this great nation did little to advance the freedom of the remnant of that empire. I’m speaking of 6 northern counties. You are straight on about where violence ends. I’m steadfast where it begins. People better than I name it “The Troubles”. Men and women like me took to the cause of independence. Men and women from that cause took it where it shouldn’t have went; the place that you,A.Price, wholeheartedly stand against and warn about the possibility.Historically, some of the movement splintered to accost civilians. They thought themselves righteous and free from judgement. They destroyed the cause but still faced adjudication.
If only America shed her glory on Eire.
So A.Price, I’m with you, hands at my sides until action in my presence propels equal force.

  15. Joe Cass says:

    V, remember Jolene? Good stuff!

  16. June says:

Here’s another act of violence at Eric Cantor’s rally. This man did nothing but be there as a Democrat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AOmXhmZq4o

  17. I Don't Know says:

Is the violence worse than Chip Flower’s old girl friends?

  18. mediawatch says:

IDK, your name describes you perfectly. Read carefully: “not guilty” and “insufficient evidence.”
