O’Donnell and Urquhart – Birds Of A Feather

Filed in Delaware by on October 19, 2010

What is it about these two and their fixation on the phrase separation of Church and State?

Today Christine actually made a debate audience gasp.

And who can ever forget Glenn’s stellar performance…

That video never gets old, and I’m thrilled Carney is using it.

There really isn’t a difference between Glenn and Christine, and that needs to be pointed out again, and again, and again.

I understood that she meant the “phrase” separation of church and state does not appear in the constitution.

I also understand that government has taken the term “separation of church and state” literally, to the extent that they have in fact passed many laws “prohibiting the free exercise” of religion. If we spent more time paying attention to words as written, rather than over emphasizing one of the founders take on the constitution we would be much better off.

A lot of laws have been passed and enforced that most definitely “prohibit the free exercise” of religion.

Yet when you bring that up, the defenders of such laws bring up the term “separation of church and state” as way to completely avoid the actual phrasing of the constitution. It is a way of saying, it’s OK to violate the constitution and pass laws that make freely exercising your religion illegal because this phrase over hear is what they “really meant”.

For teachers to teach their faith to students is indeed a violation of a strict interpretation of the constitution as written. However, to punish or even arrest students who on their own pray on school grounds is also a violation of the constitution.

The governments job is to stay the heck out of religion all together. Passing no laws for or against religion. Deciding when and where it is acceptable to pray, is not staying out of religion it is very much passing a law against religion.

The “separation of church and state” is one more great thing about the United States that Republicans are determined to fuck up. I just had to say that one more time.
