A Michigan Assistant AG’s Bizarre Crusade

Filed in National by on September 30, 2010

Yesterday was a banner day for bizarre behavior for rightwingers. This story of an obsession of a Michigan Assistant Attorney General with a University of Michigan student got lost in the noise. The student Asst. AG Andrew Shrivell is obsessed with is the openly gay student assembly president Chris Armstrong.

Using the online moniker “Concerned Michigan Alumnus,” Shirvell launched his blog in late April.

“Welcome to ‘Chris Armstrong Watch,'” Shirvell wrote in his inaugural blog post. “This is a site for concerned University of Michigan alumni, students, and others who oppose the recent election of Chris Armstrong — a RADICAL HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVIST, RACIST, ELITIST, & LIAR — as the new head of student government.”

Among other things, Shirvell has published blog posts that accuse Armstrong of going back on a campaign promise he made to minority students; engaging in “flagrant sexual promiscuity” with another male member of the student government; sexually seducing and influencing “a previously conservative [male] student” so much so that the student, according to Shirvell, “morphed into a proponent of the radical homosexual agenda;” hosting a gay orgy in his dorm room in October 2009; and trying to recruit incoming first year students “to join the homosexual ‘lifestyle.’ “

He was interviewed Anderson Cooper and claimed

“I’m a Christian citizen exercising my First Amendment rights,” Shirvell told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “I have no problem with the fact that Chris is a homosexual. I have a problem with the fact that he’s advancing a radical homosexual agenda.”

Wow. I love the part where he said he doesn’t have any hate in his body. Chris Andrews must have turned down Mr. Shirvell’s proposition. How else would you explain this guy? It does bring up a good point – at what point does someone’s private behavior become a problem in their job? Should Mr. Shirvell lose his job?

You have to wonder how this crazy person rose to the level of Assistant Attorney General.

This sort of harassment can have serious consequences.

A student leapt to his death off a bridge a day after two classmates secretly filmed him having sex with a man and broadcast it on the internet.

Tyler Clementi, 18, jumped from New York’s George Washington Bridge after leaving a note on his Facebook page saying: “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.”

The two classmates, named as Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei, both 18, have been arrested and charged with invasion of privacy.

    Reminds me of James O’Keefe.

Pandora – I think asshats like this don’t care what consequences their words or actions have on others..

they are all listed in the DSM IV manual as well

look under narcissicsm or sociopath…..Palin, Demint, O’Donnell the whole crew – there they are – and they are breeding as well – which means there are more of them

“….hosting a gay orgy in his dorm room in October 2009”

I would think Chris Armstrong would have an open and shut case of libel.

  4. MJ says:

I think Shirvell is upset that he wasn’t invited to the “orgy.” He should be held accountable for his actions, especially the harassment.

IMO – Shirvell = Closet Case!

I am sick of these guys openly advocating the heterosexual agenda.

  6. Did you watch the Anderson Cooper interview with this guy? It’s just unreal. Cooper keeps asking him “do you stick by your statement that Chris Andrews is Satan’s representative on the student government?”

  7. MJ says:

And the guy couldn’t look into the camera, kept looking to the side or up. Guess he didn’t like being interviewed by a member of the gay mafia.

  8. Whybother says:

Eh, I don’t know, I kinda thought Cooper was a bit unprofessional during the interview. He did nothing but smirk and condescend the entire time. I even got a sense of a certain “dude, aren’t you just a closet fag, lol” whiff from him. Not exactly Edward Murrow. Of course, if you can’t trust the scion of the 7th wealthiest family in history, who can you trust, amirite?

Now, I’m not saying this AG isn’t a homophope, but this wouldn’t be the first time that a lifestyle issue was over magnified. And honestly, Christians have a right to say that they think gay sex is bad, it’s called free speech.

The weird thing is that this dude doesn’t even make his blog available for viewing without an invitation, which is a shame because I’d like to HEAR HIS POINT OF VIEW before I rush to judgment and call him a closet homosexual nazi and such. Unlike some other people.

I’d also like to add that even tho I’m not into guys that Anderson Cooper is such a damn cutie!
