Video From The First Candidate Forum

Filed in National by on September 20, 2010

I’m reposting this. I originally posted this on Saturday but it seemed to get lost in the noise after the witchcraft video came out. We’re still waiting on the news stations to post the remaining video (I’d love to see Urquhart & Carney online) or at least the full audio.

Thank you to the News Journal for compiling these clips. It’s a little difficult to view them there, so I’m compiling them here for your convenience. These clips are only for the Senate candidates. I apologize, but each clip has a short commercial at the beginning.

Christine O’Donnell’s opening remarks, where she paints herself as a victim. “Limited government” and “low taxation” are founding principles, according to O’Donnell. “Common sense,” “Constitutional” and “private sector” are the buzzwords. She also proposes a temporary 2-year capital gains tax (ROFL).

Chris Coons’s opening remarks, very strong opening bio remarks. He gets some shots in at O’Donnell, Delaware’s next senator must be “prepared.”

Both candidates talk about the Middle East peace process. Christine O’Donnell read from a script that could have come straight from Bill Kristol. Coons’s answer is very strong.

Both candidates comment on the national attention to the U.S. Senate race. Here is where O’Donnell talks about getting numerous media invitations but instead chose to be here (her ego is what is going to bring her down, IMO).

Both candidates comment on health care reform. Christine O’Donnell got her biggest cheer of the night from the wingnut peanut gallery when she advocated for repeal of the health care reform law. O’Donnell says “Uncle Sam shouldn’t come between you and your doctor” yet has no problem with this when it comes to abortion.

Both candidates comment on immigration reform. Chris Coons is strong and this is perhaps O’Donnell’s nuttiest answer. She contradicts herself (she supports both “a path to citizenship” and opposes amnesty). She wants to send troops to both the northern & southern border because they are pipelines for terrorists. She says one of her clunkers “America is one of the most free places in our country.”

Both candidates answer question on national security, “what is our greatest threat?” This is where O’Donnell says her foreign policy is “we win, they lose.” She also opposes Constitutional rights for terrorists (so much for that “Constitutional conservative” label huh?) Chris Coons is especially strong in this clip.

Christine O’Donnell throwing the religious right under the bus, and lying about when she’s said crazy things:

Chris Coons on a question about raising taxes in New Castle County:

This is still not the complete debate. There was another question about foreign aid to Israel (where O’Donnell couldn’t really answer she hasn’t had time to do her laundry) and Social Security (where O’Donnell said she would be willing to raise the retirement age because Valerie Bertinelli looked hot on the cover of AARP.) The answers on abortion are also not online yet. I’ll post them when they’re available!

  1. More Video From The JCC Candidate Forum : Delaware Liberal | September 21, 2010
  1. delacrat says:

On “defense” and “israel”, ….. Coons = O’Donnell

  2. John says:

The choice is obvious except on Education.

O’Donnell wants to bring creationism to the classroom.
Coons want to destroy urban schools with Rodel “reform”

    Ugh, both AWFUL!

  3. Geezer says:

“Destroy urban schools”…that’s a good one. That would be like bombing rubble.

  4. Chris Lynch says:

Thanks for posting the videos. There are excellent fr any voter to learn from.

Looking forward to the video on Soc Sec. I hope Chris pledges to not balance the federal budget on the backs of Social Security recipients, now or in the future.

  5. Marc says:

The 9/12 Patriots down here in Sussex County are nutjobs. I am a conservative Republican and it will be my honor to vot for Chris Coons. He will make a find Senator and represent Delaware very well.

  6. Aoine says:

the 9/12we anywhere are nut jobs…..I met a few – OMG they are about as close toa domestic terrorist organization as I want to be near

    UGH

would someone please investigate these nut jobs??? they habe a “garden” so they can be survivalists, need people who can home make bulltes, Obama is going to put us all into camps and I bet every time DSP helicoptor fies overhead theythink the black-haws are here to get u……

and this, is what put O’donnell in power.

  7. Marc says:

I agree, a very angry bunch. I am one of Delaware’s totally disabled veterans and they called me a traitor. All because I asked how can they call for smaller government, which never benefits veterans, and then say you support our troops. National Defense spending has nothing to do with the maze of state and federal programs that I need. (I would love health insurance ).

So they called me a traitor, I mean a moron who is their mouthpiece at WGMD did. I would love to sue them for liable, just to get the press against the 9/12 patriots, but can’t find a laywer to do it.

  8. Anon says:

Thank you for your service Marc, and it is nice to know there are still some rational folks in Sussex County!

  9. Marc says:

It was my honor and privelege. I really question my political views when groups like the 9/12 Patriots can actually get a canidate and with the Primary.

I post on national boards, because very few people outside of Delaware understand this state. The Tea Party’s money from across the country is what she is spending, but there is no real Tea Party in the state. It is the 9/12 nutjobs that are the driving force. It is kindof funny. A group that thinks the Tea Party is too liberal.

  10. pandora says:

Marc, maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying about “you’d love to have health insurance.” Are you going to the VA? Are you having problems receiving treatment, etc. Not sure if we can help, but there are a lot of pretty smart people on this site who might be able to lend a hand.

Thank you for your service, and I’m so sorry you were called such hateful, untrue names. There’s really no difference between 9/12ers and a cult.

  11. A. Price says:

“A group that thinks the Tea Party is too liberal.”
i would love to see this group. Just hide in the brush or something and study their habbits.

  12. Marc says:

I get care from the VA and it is excellent. But people don’t understand the issues with it. I was injured on a parachute jump and I have paralysis on the left side. So I fall alot.

In June I fell down the steps from my issues. The VA will pay for emergency room visits only if they are life threatening. A broken bone or fractured leg is not life threatening. So here is what I have to do. My wife has to take off of work and drive me to Wilmington. And if it needs to be set in a cast, they have to send me to the Philly VA. ( The Elsmere hosptial has limited services ).

So I either risk the emergency room at Beebe and end up with a bill I might have to pay ( happened once ). Or drive from Lewes to the VA.

I would really love health insurance. I hate having the risk of having unlimited medical liability

People do not understand the maze of issues with veterans. That is why I bring it up to candiates and groups.

  13. Miscreant says:

My daughter just sent me a text message. One of her students (7 years old) told her “There’s this lady named Christine O’Donnell, and she is trying to steal all our money and our WHOLE world”.

I didn’t know A. Price has an older sister.

  14. pandora says:

Shouldn’t you be able to get health insurance now? Doesn’t the new HCR law state that insurance companies can’t deny you because of pre-existing conditions? You should look into this.

  15. Thanks for bringing up your issues here Marc. I had no idea. Have you talked to Chris Coons or John Carney about this? Yeah, it certainly seems like some kind of supplementary insurance would really benefit you, if it was affordable.

  16. Some of the provisions of HCR are kicking in this week.

  17. Marc says:

Out of my price range. Ironically the VA does give my wife and daughter health insurance, though there are minor issues with it. But not me. It is insane.

I called all of the candiates, only the Democrats in the two races actually put me in touch with campaign management to discuss veterans issues. The so-called flag waving conservatives won’t talk to me.

  18. Marc says:

Veterans have alot of issues like this. I call them VAisms. There is a maze of them.

People do not realize that Veterans benefit more from Democrats than republicans.

  19. Marc says:

And honestly Delaware is good to veterans. I am waiting for congress to bailout the states. So I can get my hospital bed. ( the va won’t pay for a hospital bed for me and my wife, And I am only 43. I am not going to live seperately from my wife. She has deals with enough being a caretaker).

  20. Miscreant says:

    “Destroy urban schools”

    ——————————————————————————

“…that’s a good one. That would be like bombing rubble.”

    Statement of the day.

  21. Phil says:

Personally, I think no matter what, it comes down to dollars and cents regardless of D or R. They cut my unit’s orders 8 days short of a year so that we would fall under less benefits. Letters to Carper, Biden, and Castle fell on deaf ears. Even though I brought this all up while I was still in, they were so surprised when I didn’t reenlist.
