Castle Won’t Endorse Anyone

Filed in National by on September 17, 2010

Still grappling with his shocking primary defeat, Rep. Michael N. Castle of Delaware said Thursday that he will not endorse Republican Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell because he could not tolerate some of the “personal smears” he faced during the campaign.

I sat in front of a vaguely familiar right wing columnist from New York (I don’t know her name, but if I go picture searching on the New York Post, I bet I will find her). She was saying to a gentleman next to her that she really hates that Castle has not endorsed Christine. I turned around and said “O’Donnell deserves nothing from Castle. You realize that her campaign spread smears that he was gay.” And she said, with out a look of humor or irony “Well, I heard on good authority that he was.” I became enraged internally, but managed to say “And you see nothing wrong with that even being an issue. That is why the right wing in this country is pure evil.”

Castle, of course, should never endorse O’Donnell. Indeed, if they ever are at the same event, he should shun her. O’Donnell is your typical evil right wing Fox News merchant of lies, from saying that Bill Clinton murdered Vince Foster to saying that Castle is gay. Such scum is never worthy of an endorsement.

And Castle is still too much of a loyal Republican to endorse Coons, and I can respect that.

More from the Washington Post article:

“There are a lot of personal feelings in all this,” Castle said in an interview off the House floor, citing “some of the personal smears” in the bitterly fought campaign. “At this point, I have no intention of endorsing.” He ruled out supporting the Democratic nominee, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons, suggesting that he will remain neutral in the Senate race. [..]

[O’Donnell] has since indicated that she would take Castle’s endorsement, but the two have not spoken. Castle said that his campaign had two phone numbers for her – one a cellphone, the other a home phone – and that both were out of service Tuesday and Wednesday. He said that on Thursday morning, he called the general campaign phone number and left a message saying he was trying to reach O’Donnell.

Now that is comedy. The dipshit Republican nominee for Senate does not have a telephone. Now we knew O’Donnell wants to take Delaware back to the 50’s, but who knew it was the 1850’s she was talking about.

Where are all the “Republicans in Chaos”. Stories in the news?

Truthness rally in DC on for the 30th. Can’t wait for an open thread to say “he’ll yeah!”

  3. A. Price says:

jason, im going to the rally to restore sanity. you can support you demagogue, I will be advocating for REAL America. (this should be fun)

  4. From the article:

“My fate was sealed without either one of them, in retrospect,” he said of Palin and DeMint’s endorsements, suggesting that voters were too angry for his moderate views. “They were very energetic, they were very committed, and they didn’t want to hear any other point of view.”

That’s what you get for not standing up to the wingnuttification of your party earlier.

  5. A. Price says:

damn. sounds like Castle is really close to giving a “first they came for the….” speach regarding the Right wing and how they feel they shuld be the only legal opinion in this country.
C’mon Iron Mike, your political career is over but a LOT of (sane) people still respect you. Speak out against this cancer!

  6. Truth Teller says:

I am Dem and I liked Mike but he really got me when he followed all the Repuk’s who lost this year and then and only then did he speak out against Rush the Junkie and all those other nut jobs at Fox Noise. Why hasn’t these wimps spoken out while in office

  7. Delbert says:

He’s bitter and disgraced and it shows what a bad sport Castle has always been. But that’s not news. HERE’S THE NEWSFLASH!!!!!

Bo Biden went missing on Primary Night and they just found him this morning. A cleaning lady at a cheap motel discovered him, burnt-out and dishevelled in front of a typewriter with a few empty bottles and reams of his typewritten work strewn about. Apparently he had been writing sentences the whole time:

I am a dumb Irish bum.
I am a dumb Irish bum.
    I am a dumb….

He was removed to Farnhurst where he is resting under observation.

  8. Delaware Dem says:

    It’s Beau, by the way.

  9. A. Price says:

assuming he actually WANTED to be senator.
I really dont think that is on his list and he was happy to have the “i wont beat castle” out just as he is happy to let Coons get slandered by the Right for the next few weeks.

BEAU (not bo) is an effective attorney general and just because daddy is a big wig, we shouldn’t automatically assume that he wants, or should have to do exactly the same thing.

  10. Venus says:

I always thought Farnhurst was for the female psych patients. Or was that back in the day?

  11. The Other Geezer says:

Castle should not give her the time of day. Let the free loader die under her own stupidity.

The Republicans who dumped on Castle just dumped on the entire GOP in Delaware. Yes, the boy has problems but O’Donnell is not qualified to work in the bathrooms in the Senate let alone be one.

Did I hear O’Donnell say last night she had been so busy she could not do her laundry? I bet there is nothing from Victoria’s secret in there. There is nothing in her head either.

  12. anon says:

I just want to say how much I enjoy seeing Mike Castle without that vacuous grin on his face.

  13. Joanne Christian says:

Don’t endorse her Mike. This assault on people’s personal lives has got to stop, and good for him to not tolerate a line being crossed. This “kiss and make-up”, or “politics is dirty”, or “that was yesterday” needs to be reigned in, and we should be standing for civility and decency–not innuendo, and salacious sound bytes. What are we teaching the next generation? Stand firm Mike Castle. If she’s that great of a candidate, she’ll do it without you, and you’ve not compromised the dignity of which you have stood for. Be an example of the party, not an exception–as she’s proving.

  14. Delbert says:

“Slandered by the Right”, A.Price? That remains to be seen. What is happening now is the National Republicans are getting over the fact that they lost one of their Titans, even though he was a Closet Dem his whole career, and they’re realizing that Castle had another
“patsy” thrown to him by the Dems for the general election and that this thing is winnable with or without state GOP support. Ross is in the back room with the Dems making a deal to sell this one out, but I don’t think it will do much good. Hey, it’ll be free entertainment between now and Return Day anyway.

  15. anon says:

Now the Lords of the Back Room are mad.

  16. anonone says:

Will Castle endorse Glenn “liberals are Nazis” Urquhart?

  17. pandora says:

the general election and that this thing is winnable with or without state GOP support

Simply brilliant. Keep alienating other Republicans. Keep trashing the candidate they voted for. Keep calling them “liberals” and “closet Dems” and RINOs, and then don’t be surprised if they don’t show up to vote for your candidates. Please, keep telling them that you don’t need them in your party and you don’t need their support or their vote.

Sounds like a winning strategy to me. You are a political idiot.

  18. anon says:

    “Slandered by the Right”

    Sung to the tune of…

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I got what it takes…

  19. Anon says:

Repub talking points -Raised taxes, blah blah, Marxist!, blah blah Obama lover! Blah blah Harry Reid likes him!…grab the pitchforks!!

  20. anon says:

Chris Coons should bite Harry Reid.

  21. heragain says:

As a pet, anon, he’d be muzzled soon after. 😉

Sorry. Harry Reid cracks me up at the best of times. You have to figure a D Mormon will have his quirks. 😀

Look. I hope everyone (at least) who was at the candidate forum now has had a good look at the energized yahoos doing GOTV in Delaware for Christine. You ain’t seen NOTHING yet. They have the resources to bus in nutcases EVERY WEEKEND between now and November from all over the mid-Atlantic. They will DO that. Every Bible-study at every Christian high-school and podunk college will send a team.

I talk to these people almost every day. We need money and boots on the ground… and we need them in Kent and Sussex, and we need every registered D in New Castle County to vote at 7 am and greet the rest of the day.

And I wish to God I could get Chris in a room for 2 hours and teach him something about remembering the faces of people who are NOT handing him a big check, because his “listening face’ sux.

  22. Geezer says:

Do you really think Up With People wanna-be’s knocking on doors will find many Delawareans receptive to their message? Most of my neighbors are Republicans, and I don’t think they’d be happy to see them.

  23. heragain says:

They’re young, clean and polite, and the homeschoolers, at least, can doorknock SAH folks and seniors … and not during dinner.

I don’t want to underestimate them. ymmv

  24. RH says:

“I am a dumb Irish bum.
I am a dumb Irish bum.
    I am a dumb….”

    …what are you?

  25. Prup (aka Jim Benton) says:

According to Media Matters, FAUX News is now speculating that the reason that Castle won’t endorse O’Donnell is because Obama has offered him a job.

Evidence=none. but when has that ever stopped them.

  26. Delbert says:

Well at least Mikey is getting some sympathy from the Left, a personal telephone call from President O’Bama no less. And I don’t think it’s because Old Man Joe told him to, but you never know. Do you think O’Bama just might have asked Mikey to endorse Coons? The Dems lost a valuable friend in this shake-up.

  27. pandora says:

Please keep bashing the GOP. I really think that’s a winning strategy. Castle supporters will flock to your cause.

  28. Delbert says:

What am I, RH? I’m a middle-aged voter from the hinterlands of Sussex County who has been discouraged these past 25 years to see our voting block, which covers most of the state, constantly lose to Upper New Castle County/Wilmington in the statewide elections. And Tuesday night our voices were finally heard in a Primary the pooped in the cornflakes of the political powers-that-be of the Dems and GOP. And I’m hoping to see it happen more often in the future for both major parties.

  29. Jason330 says:

Savor the flavor. I wish you guys could win every Republican primary. How can I help out ?

  30. V says:

“discouraged these past 25 years to see our voting block, which covers most of the state, constantly lose to Upper New Castle County/Wilmington in the statewide elections”

Because there’s more of us than there are of you, genius. So while you may “cover most of the state” geographically, that doesn’t make you more important.

  31. RH says:

let’s be honest, the Dems are thrilled…and they should be…if your objective was to oust Mike Castle and deliver the seat to the D’s, mission accomplished…I grant you that your voice was heard by the R’s…but the Dems…in a terrible year for them, you’ve managed to energize them

  32. Leo Sigh says:

If Castle endorses O’Donnell, he really is a loser.

That woman, along with ‘Nazi’ Urquhart are making Delaware look like an even dumber state than Arizona, and that’s hard to do.

I’ve never been to Delaware and, if this is the caliber of people who get votes in Delaware, that says a lot about the people of Delaware – dumb, dumber and dumbest. It’ll be a long time before I’ll set foot in Delaware I fear.

  33. heragain says:

Right, Leo. It’s the state. Water pollution has dumbed down all these bankers and PhD chemists. We’re one arts & crafts class from being a special needs summercamp.

    Better if you stay home.
