GOP Claims Castle Leads By 7

Filed in Delaware by on September 13, 2010

The war of words between the Delaware Republican establishment and the O’Donnell campaign continues. Tom Ross suggests that the PPP Poll will drive Castle voters to the polls:

“I don’t buy it, it’s a Democratic poll, but it’s all about turnout. There’s a large segment of the population that is familiar with her antics, that she’s kooky and they really don’t have to worry about it,” Ross said. “I think the good thing is that it might grab the casual voter laughing about her claims for the last two weeks. I walk into places and people start laughing, ‘Oh are you hiding in the bushes?'” he said, referencing O’Donnell’s claim to The Weekly Standard that party operatives were trailing her home at night.

Another Delaware-based party operative said internal polling showed Castle leading O’Donnell by 7 points, a margin that still is much closer than many ever expected.

“The PPP poll is actually helping us, scaring the heck out of New Castle County Republicans,” said the aide.

The Castle campaign has not released this internal poll and I wonder how old it is. Most of the action in the polls has occurred since the Palin endorsement on Thursday. The Delaware GOP team has been quite active today, actively pushing a story of O’Donnell’s lawsuit against the ISI (for $6.9M). No matter how this turns out tomorrow, the big loser is the Delaware Republican party.

I believe Castles polls. Forget Christine. Couldnt believe Chris Matthews had Dan Gaffney the conservative radio troll on his program tonight instead of Al Masscitti or Alan Ludell!

  2. Nate Silver backs up my hunch that the timing of the poll is important:

Ms. O’Donnell, for her part, already leads in at least one poll of Delaware. Although her lead in the survey, from Public Policy Polling, was within the poll’s margin of error, it is probably right to consider her a very slight favorite to defeat Mr. Castle based on the sharp upward trajectory in her numbers – a phenomenon that can sometimes be dispositive in primaries, where voters may jump on the bandwagon of a once-obscure candidate who suddenly appears to be viable.

Gaffney was at the center of the story; his interview with Christine made the national news.

  4. Castle says that Republicans will lose the Delaware Senate seat if O’Donnell is nominated.

Mike Castle declared flatly that if Christine O’Donnell wins the primary, Republicans lose “automatically” this fall — and there goes Republicans’ chances at taking back the Senate.
“Bottom line is, if she’s nominated, Republicans lose the election automatically,” Castle said in an interview with NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell today from Wilmington, Del. “It’s that simple.”

They’ll be no yay team GOP! from Castle if he loses.

Just saw Suzy One Note as the big pic on Drudge Report with article by ABC News… Just unbelievable.

    This can’t hurt O’Donnell:

  7. PPP previews their general election match-up numbers for Delaware, which will be released on Wednesday.

Just finished the general election numbers in Delaware and New Hampshire. Not going to release them until Wednesday when we have nominees but in one case the conventional wisdom about who’s more electable was confirmed and in the other it was not:

-In Delaware Chris Coons polls 26 points better against Christine O’Donnell than Mike Castle. Castle’s net favorability is 25 points higher than O’Donnell’s. That electability gap is even wider than what we saw a month ago when Castle did 20 points better against Coons than O’Donnell.

Hmmm….Castle was leading by 12 or so before but the numbers have tightened. I’d say Castle’s lead on Coons is in single digits, if I had to guess.

  8. WGMD’s Dan Gaffney says O’Donnell could win the Senate seat if she beats Castle.

  9. Joe Cass says:

So, was Chrissy once fat or on her way to become obese? I just suffered through 45 minutes of videos and I found the singularity:
fat cheeks. Now maybe because I make love on a regular basis and maybe because I toss off a few knuckle children but I think the problem with Pristine and her entire following is too few orgasms. If you look closely enough, they are all pear shaped snorters.Instead of contributing to Chris Coons the humane thing to do would be to send a case of Vagisil and a drum of Vaseline to her headquarters on Presidential Drive. Then we send Matthews in. We may never retrieve him but at least we’ll know for sure that Moran has no interest in the holey vajayjay.

  10. pandora says:

Joe… please… stop. You make me want to leap to O’Donnell’s defense.

  11. Joe Cass says:

Child comes home from athletic event:
Dad: “So how did you do?”
Kid: : I pulled an ODonnell.”
Mom:”Lost again. Your team sucks, honey, and you can’t win second prize in a one-legged ass kicking contest.”

  12. Joe Cass says:

I apologize Pandora. I am sorry.

  13. Joe Cass says:

“defecate spending”? I’m not sorry! Christine wouldn’t be so chubby if she would do a bit “defecate spending”. Vagisil, vaseline and a pack a charmin.

  14. anon says:

Chris Coons has to be feeling good regardless of the outcome tomorrow. Even if Castle emerges as he should, he is no longer the sure thing his camp once thought!

  15. pandora says:

True, anon. If Castle wins tomorrow, O’Donnell supporters… first, won’t believe he won , and second, won’t support him. BTW, if O’Donnell wins… Castle supporters won’t support her. They’ve destroyed each other.

  16. True anon & pandora, if Castle wins he emerges a damaged candidate against Coons who got to stay clean.

  17. anon2 says:

And should Castle be victorious expect a full onslaught against Chris fairly quickly–Castle has been under the microscope and taken such a beating recently they will be looking to turn the spotlight on the devil democrat and his nefarious tax raises to try and rebuild Castle’s image….

  18. MJ says:

Gaffney must have had Curly’s GOP penis in his mouth to say that.

  19. a. turd says:

why do you say that MJ, is there something wrong with a guy having another guy’s penis in his mouth? Using gay sex as an insult
    …. homophobe.

  20. pandora says:

And should Castle be victorious expect a full onslaught against Chris fairly quickly

True enough, however, he’ll have to be louder than the outcry of “cheater” and “rigged election” from sobbing O’Donnell supporters. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m not seeing Christine’s supporters accepting defeat graciously.

  21. Brooke says:

Well, they live by faith, not by works. 😉

  22. MJ says:

    Bite me, turdy

  23. I’m enjoying how that GOP aide just blew off Kent and Sussex Republicans completely. Way to make them support your candidate, buddy.

  24. I noticed that too, Bill.
