PANIC IN GREENVILLE: Tom Ross & DEGOP Taking O’Donnell to Court
CQPolitcs, Via kos:
The Republican Party of Delaware has filed a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission, accusing one of its own Senate candidates of illegally collaborating with the Tea Party Express.
Attorneys for the state party asked the FEC to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into conservative GOP candidate Christine O’Donnell “to remedy the alleged violations and to ensure that these violations immediately cease and do not reoccur,” according to the complaint filed Thursday.
(snip)
The complaint alleges that the O’Donnell campaign is “knowingly accepting illegal campaign contributions from the Tea Party Express PAC.” It cites two “alarming” instances:
– O’Donnell has knowingly accepted excessive contributions from the Tea Party Express that were directly solicited on behalf of the O’Donnell campaign, according to the filing.
– O’Donnell has accepted illegal excessive contributions from the Tea Party Express by engaging in a statewide coordinated communications effort in support of her campaign. This means, according to the complaint, that every advertisement that is being run by the Tea Party Express in support of Ms. O’Donnell is a violation of Federal law.

Tom Ross is such a sissy boy–I can’t believe he is the Repub mouthpiece!

Frank Knotts’ and Evan Q’s heads just exploded.
Comment by jason330 on 9 September 2010 at 7:48 pm:
Evan Q will get to do his “I’m a bad ass” routine in front of a judge.

I love this kos commenter: “One gang of lying crooks is fighting another gang of lying crooks to be the Official Representative of Lying Crooks. Who all hate frivolous lawsuits.”
Comment by anon on 9 September 2010 at 8:03 pm:
The FEC is not court.

I think the Tbagz Express just hit a fund raising jackpot.

This is the kinda crap that happens when you don’t debate your opponent. BTW do any of you guys over actually have OD’s resume? Can’t seem to find it anywhere. Did she ever work? How will she get Social Security when shes 65 and still single?
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 9 September 2010 at 8:21 pm:
I agree – Mike Castle is extremely worried. I wish I could see some of his polling numbers. Here’s Castle’s response:

Here is what OD is up against:
She may rue the day she came looking for this fight.
Comment by Anon on 9 September 2010 at 8:31 pm:
WTF, Is she close in the polls??
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 9 September 2010 at 8:34 pm:
I have no idea Anon. PPP is supposed to be polling this weekend. I assume we’ll hear on Monday.

Everyday has been Christmas Day lately.

I thought campaign contributions were Free Speech? Now I am all confused.
Comment by jason330 on 9 September 2010 at 8:53 pm:
Yes. You can add “enemy of free speech” to Christine’s “Castle is the DEVIL” talking points.
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 9 September 2010 at 9:02 pm:
Good point, anon. The FEC is not the same as suing. However, the DE GOP is asking the government to intervene.
Technically, aren’t both Mike Castle and Christine O’Donnell saying that money in politics is bad? Castle’s complaining about Tea Party Express money.
Comment by Bill Humphrey on 9 September 2010 at 10:37 pm:
Out-of-state interests, who cares?
This is the most ridiculous line in Castle’s response:
“Tuesday’s primary will be decided by grassroots Republican voters here in Delaware, not out-of-state interest groups who are working to control the outcome.”
Look, I get when you’re annoyed outsiders interfere in governor’s races and other state-only races (even if I may disagree), and I could even understand being annoyed at outside participation in House races, but I find that absurd for US Senate races, especially in a small population state like Delaware. The amount of leverage by small-state Senators is already enormous (you can come up with 41 Senators with combined populations less than California’s Senators represent), but even if you set that aside, the vote of an individual US Senator has a huge impact on every American anywhere. It’s silly to act all offended and possessive that outsiders might take an interest in the outcome of a given Senate race. There’s too much riding on it for people to stay on the sidelines. If I were still registered in Massachusetts, I’d be super active in this race anyway. But I actually re-registered here so I could help even more by being able to vote in it. (That wasn’t the only reason obviously.)
Comment by jason330 on 9 September 2010 at 10:46 pm:
Delawareans are parochial, especially the old natives. The line might resonate with them.
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 9 September 2010 at 10:58 pm:
I just get the impression that Mike Castle is still waging a campaign more appropriate for 2009 than for 2010. We shall see.
Comment by jason330 on 9 September 2010 at 10:59 pm:
Good point. With everything that has happened (begining with crazy Eileen last summer) he still seems caught unaware. He thinks he is too big to fail.
Comment by Unstable Isotope on 9 September 2010 at 11:04 pm:
Yes, Jason. Castle has been playing catch-up. Really the only time he got out in front of the news was the big push of negative stories about O’Donnell. It looks like he generated a backlash by doing that.

There..fixed that for you UI
And quite honestly, I don’t think Castle has had to run a real campaign for a long long time. It shows.
Comment by Truth Teller on 10 September 2010 at 10:37 am:
Is this the same Tom Ross who had Christine as his rising star 4 years ago and touted her as better than Senator Biden?????
Comment by Jason330 on 10 September 2010 at 10:52 am:
This story isn’t getting picked up anywhere. I guess the Palin story sucked up all the O2.
Comment by Polemical on 10 September 2010 at 4:50 pm:
Has anyone cared to look at the ‘Disclaimer’ at the bottom of the Tea Party Express TV ads…it’s like a paragraph long! Clear tip-off that something is rotten in Greenville (via Las Vegas, NV).
Comment by Polemical on 10 September 2010 at 4:52 pm:
OD probably creamed in her pants upon hearing the Palin endorsement…oh, I forgot, OD frowns upon any display of MB…sees it as pre-marital sex.

Jason throw in the Cape Henlopen area’s retirees where WikipediA gives them equal billing as the highest personal incomes in DE averaging $80,000 per annum, also strickly GOP.
Kinda makes the average media income for working people in Sussex less than $30,000 look sick.
