How Low Can O’Donnell Go?

Filed in National by on September 1, 2010

Pretty damn low. Politico reports:

The newscast-style video on Liberty.com features a woman seated before a backdrop of Liberty.com’s Las Vegas headquarters, criticizing Castle and praising O’Donnell.

“Isn’t Mike Castle cheating on his wife with a man?” asks a voice off-screen at the 1:55 mark.

“That’s the rumor,” answers the newscaster. (A short clip of the exchange is above.)

My colleague Dave Catanese reported earlier this month that O’Donnell’s spokesman, Yates Walker, works for Liberty.com, and the American Spectator described Eric Odom, the group’s founder, as having “joined Team O’Donnell” to organize online support.

Walker told me he and the firm left the campaign two weeks ago and produced the video on their own.

Here’s the part of the video in question (you can watch the whole video here):

Just in case you think that the O’Donnell campaign is trying to keep some plausible deniability, here’s the comment of Yates Walker, O’Donnell’s former spokesman:

Walker said he had no compunction about repeating the rumor about Castle because “he’s a threat to American sovereignty.”

All I have to add is boo hiss. There’s really no low they won’t sink to.

Holy SHi….“Isn’t Mike Castle cheating on his wife with a man?” asks a voice off-screen at the 1:55 mark”

I’m telling you – I know the dynamics, but I can’t root for O’Donnell anymore than I could root for brain cancer.

if you wanna make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs.
This is disgusting, yes. But if it works, and can gin up the Bagz to nominate Chrissy O, it can be used against her to show what a despicable Palin clone she is. It will make her vile and unelectable to everyone but the Teabaggers who will be voting in the primary. After that, SANE people in delaware will send Chris Coons to the senate.
Hopefully this gets REALLY ugly, ends in a primary defeat for Castle, and gets LOTS of national attention to shine a light on how these Teabaggers run for office.

I’d call them cretins, but folks suffering from neonatal hypothyroidism would be all over me. And besides, cretins have an excuse.

  4. Phil says:

I love how the neocons like palin totally hijacked the tea party and made it Republican².

  5. rumormill says:

It’s low…true…but….there have been many wondering and whispering…

  6. Geezer says:

On a less visceral note, this rumor has been around approximately forever (not the cheating but the gayitude), so it’s extremely unlikely to have any effect on the actual voting. And, to further Phil’s point, the ham-fisted artlessness of this is staggering — one is, yet again, tempted to point to the brown shirts for historical precedent. These smear artists are to Atwater and Rove as Limbaugh and Beck are to Shakespeare and Marlowe.

  7. Geezer says:

“there have been many wondering and whispering…”

And you apparently are one of them. Cretin.

  8. Joanne Christian says:

Oh c’mon ElSom–just get it over with, and play the limbo music please……I am so glad Mike Castle hasn’t even begun to acknowledge these distractions. He’s Mike CLASStle to me, and jason (when you are fully conscious, and verbal again)—well, we will definitely agree about brain cancer—and oh yeh–O’Donnell too. I know he’s taking a heavy toll on your health.

  9. jason330 says:

OMG Castle is shitting his pants. Check out the new #1 google response to the search term “Christine O’Donnell”

    http://realchristine.com/

Interesting what a huge pile of money can do for you. Check out the tiny gray on black note on the bottom of the page:

“Paid for by the Castle Campaign Fund, Carl Hostetter, Treasurer”

  10. I’m shocked – Castle actually responded.

In response to a video posted today by the recently-departed Christine O’Donnell spokesman Yates Walker, Rep. Mike Castle called charges that he was unfaithful to his wife “a complete and total falsehood.”

“I’ve never had an affair with anybody,” Castle said. “I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife. That is an insult to her.”

I guess ignoring O’Donnell is not in the current Castle playbook. Of course, this does give O’Donnell an opening to say Castle is avoiding debating her.

  11. jason330 says:

I think he can say “I’m not debating that piece of shit” (or something to that effect) at this point.

  12. Joanne Christian says:

Why jason…a change of heart? Writing copy FOR Mike Castle?

  13. jason330 says:

I’m telling you JC. As much as I don’t like Castle, it makes me queasy to think that any fellow Delawaeans could be taken in by Ms. O’Shitbag.

  14. Exactly Jason. I can’t in good conscience say I hope she wins. I think this could possibly backfire on her. However, since she’s a professional candidate perhaps the fundraising from out-of-state wingnuts will pay her rent for months.

  15. jpconnorjr says:

Score this round for crazy Chrissie big time! She calls her opponent a cocksucker and Howdy Doody feels the need to respond! Coons should call Carper tomorrow to get a good office reserved:)

  16. a.price says:

I gotta say, i hope she DOES win. It is honestly the best chance Chris Coons has. im SURE mike castle will be fine. Who knows, in Lame-duckitude, he may actually represent the people of delaware. We also have to remember he voted against equal pay for women, AND health care for us all. He deserves to lose his job.

  17. Delaware Dem says:

For Castle to respond to this… WOW. I really am wondering what his internal polls are saying. If he was wiping the floor with Christine, there is NO way in hell he would have responded to this directly. He would have let others condemn her.

  18. From O’Donnell’s perspective I have to say this video was a hit. Everyone’s talking about it and she even got Castle to respond.

  19. jason330 says:

I don’t know. She was just picking up steam w/ the national wingnutery I think this is a setback.

  20. jpconnorjr says:

oh I don’t know the wingies seem to like guy/guy a lot more than they let on:)

  21. Delaware Dem says:

Jason, with the national wingnuttery this is a good campaign tactic. You are viewing this from both a Democratic and a Delaware Way perspective, in that you think this is out of bounds, uncivil and will backfire on her. It may yet in terms of Delaware votes, but I guarantee there is a moneybomb being orchestrated among the national wingnuttery right now.

  22. jason330 says:

If that is true, the conservatives in the GOP are even more fucked up than I thought they were. (And I thought they were pretty fucked up.)

  23. anon says:

The silence of Pete du Pont in all this speaks volumes. Pete is the dog that didn’t bark.

  24. skippertee says:

I’m not sayin’ Mike would SUCK a dick, but I bet he’d let you lay one across his MOUTH while you took a ride down a bumpy road!

  25. Joanne Christian says:

ENOUGH–his response reverberated a chastisement that sent the message—“your LIES hurt OTHER people”. What other politician has taken the up road to that degree of response–instead of running for their own cover w/ “I never had sex with that woman”, or “my office can be in touch w/ me and account for my whereabouts at all times”. Crud–any politician even remotely accused of anything salacious becomes all about preservation of self. Again, no doubt a man of integrity looked after another’s collateral damage in this cheap attempt at humiliation, suspect, and insinuation.

  26. skippertee says:

@Joanne “Christian”-If you’re talking to me lady, you’re talking to someone who doesn’t give a fuck what YOU have to tell ME.
Get off your high-horse and go sit on the biggest dildo you can buy and relieve some of your sexual frustrations here to for satisfied by your hysterical rants on this site.

  27. Joanne Christian says:

As posted by the skipper so in control of verbal emotion……..

  28. skippertee says:

    Gee,the TRUTH must REALLY hurt.

  29. pandora says:

Whoa… let’s take it down a notch, skipper. Joanne does not post hysterical rants, and she didn’t deserve that comment.

(I hope everything is ok with you, skipper. These comments aren’t the norm for you.)

  30. skippertee says:

Well, except for learning some conservadems may be going belly-up like two dollar whores for the TAX-BREAKS for the RICH,I’m fine.
    I apologize to Miss Christian,sincerely.
I DID step over the line.[My comments to her only]

  31. She is now saying that she had nothing to do with the accusations and abhors them. Oliver Willis has the link (via Down With Tyranny).

    ~

ah I see an apology from the source. well done, skip.

  32. Joanne Christian says:

Thank you Pandora. And skippertee–we’re fine–a kitchen spat. Besides, my sister has a cat named skippertee, so I always think of that when you write, and kinda smile. But — IF–you are her–I’m telling mom!!!!!

  33. nemski says:

Watching the Liberty.com’s videos is like watching Naked News, not that I’ve ever done that.

  34. Belinsky says:

By the way, Ginger Gibson is guilty of wretched misjudgment in passing on that off-camera comment on the video, as are whatever editors still work at The News-Journal.

  35. Geezer says:

“By the way, Ginger Gibson is guilty of wretched misjudgment in passing on that off-camera comment on the video, as are whatever editors still work at The News-Journal.”

So in your judgment, the media should keep information from the people, not report it. Brilliant!

  36. The off-camera comment was the story.

  37. Belinsky says:

So in your judgment, the media should keep information from the people, not report it.

Weak. A newspaper is not a stenographer. Back when there were standards, the News-Journal refused to run crap like this. The Gannett survivors don’t know news.

  38. Jazmine says:

That’s not O’Donnell in the video. You are grasping at straws with the connection. And who cares, O’Donnell’s conservative positions are exactly what our country needs.

  39. fedora says:

Glad to see the crazies have found DL, and are ready to pontificate about their holier than thou candidate!

  40. Geezer says:

“Back when there were standards, the News-Journal refused to run crap like this.”

As events since you wrote this have shown, exactly the opposite is true: They do, and you don’t.

“A newspaper is not a stenographer.”

Nor should it be a censor.

  41. a. price says:

“O’Donnell’s conservative positions are exactly what our country needs.”

what positions are those? Faith, Flag and Family? OH WAIT I KNOW, “no more socialism”… or could it be “a return to core american values”…
What position does she have that isn’t a St Sarah talking point, or a Glenn Beck rant, or a Hannity nightly lie?

this woman claims to be againt masturbation, but that is her entire campaign.
