“Qualified Citizen Politician”

Filed in National by on August 31, 2010

Those are Christine O’Donnell’s words in describing herself in her first campaign ad. I struggled with the notion of whether to post the video of the ad (courtesy of Dialogue Delaware) or the transcript, for I do not want such filth on our blog. But I decided that I want Christine to win the primary, so why the hell not? So here we go:

I’m Christine O’Donnell, candidate in the special election for the Senate seat once held by Joe Biden. If you’re tired of backroom deals and mudslinging, and you want a qualified citizen politician to go to Washington and serve, then I’m asking for your vote on Sept. 14th. To get our country back on track, we must replace career politicians with citizen politicians who represent you. Please visit Christine2010.com for more information.

Oh, the treasure trove that is Christine O’Donnell. First, if you are tired of mudslinging, why in God’s name would you vote for a Teabagger? Their kind have been dipping in mud from the day their reactionary movement was born. How many epithets have they hurled President Obama’s way again? I have lost count. But of course, I am forgetting the rule that is IOKIYAR (It’s OK if you are a Republican). And I am forgetting the all important Republican tactic of projection: always attack your opponent for what you do.

Second, I must admit, for once, and perhaps for the first time ever, Christine O’Donnell is telling the truth. She has finally narrowed down her qualifications for the Senate seat to something that is vaguely plausible rather than completely fictitious. She has proclaimed herself to be a “qualified citizen politician.” I assume that she was born in this country, thus making her a citizen of this country (although not for long if Christine has her way). I guess I should demand a birth certificate, as she looks somewhat Irish to me, but alas, I am too busy to forge an Irish birth certificate at the moment to back up my own doubts as to her citizenship. So lets just say for the moment that Christine O’Donnell is a citizen. Check. She is a qualified citizen. I doubt she could pass a INS citizenship test asking basic civics questions about our system of government and American history, but that is not required to be a citizen if you are lucky enough to be born here.

Christine has also proclaimed herself to be a politician. That would be correct. Remember, you don’t have to be a successful politician, or even a good one, to be a politician. She has been running for this Senate seat since 2002, albeit unsuccessfully. It is interesting to note, however, that the only thing preventing Christine O’Donnell from being a career politician rather than a citizen politician is her own lack of success in any of the races she has been in. If, God forbid, she has somehow won in 2002, she would be the very same “career politician” she disdains today. And I wonder why she disdains “career politicians” when her only career and only source of income has been running for office for eight years and appearing as a Faux News talking head. Would that not make her a “career politician?”

Perhaps I misspoke earlier. It would appear that Christine is stretching the truth again about her not being a career politician.

  1. She is presumably a citizen (I haven’t seen her birth certificate) and she’s over the age of 30, therefore, she has the nominal qualifications.

  2. Does she have other ads in the works because this one’s pretty boring. Is she putting herself in a bind by saying “no mudslinging?” Her only chance against Castle is to go full extreme negative. She is making Castle respond through the DE GOP, though. The DE GOP is opening full fire on her.

now i’ve wasted 00:29 on top of the non fight 1:01 and foe what??? For what! I ask. Because Crazy Chrissie is less than 2 weeks from returning to oblivian. I need my wing nut queen for her last 13 days!

  4. The Straight Scoop says:

Food for thought: If O’Donnell loses the primary on Sept. 14, does she enter the fray as a write-in candidate? She did this in 2006 and got about 4% of the vote, when she was basically an unknown.

After actually showing up on a general election ballot in 2008 and the primary ballot this year, you have to imagine that a write-in campaign could easily yield 7-8% this time around. And that could have a huge impact in November.

When is career politician, Mike Castle, going to get out of the gutter? He needs to disavow all the mudslinging.

  6. Dr Crazy says:

To be fair, she has been consistent in her refusal to be a “career” anything.

Although she has created the job of “citizen bodyguard” for Evan Queef.

  7. liberalgeek says:

I think that we are finally understanding the love that Mike Matthews has for Christine.

  8. Truth Teller says:

Please stop knocking this woman or else we will be stuck with Mike for six years. By the way where is Mrs Castle????

  9. TT, conservatives nowadays like anything liberals don’t like. If we start liking her, they’ll drop her like a hot potato.

  10. Delaware Dem says:

TT, first off the term will be for the unexpired four years of the Senate term Vice President Biden was elected to in 2008. So whomever wins this year will only serve until 2014.

Second, I am walking a fine line here. I despise Christine and all of her thugs personally and politically. Yet, her success in GOP politics is good for Democrats, so I want her to win the primary, for it guarantees a Democratic win. But that doesn’t mean I am going to praising or complimenting her here or anywhere. UI is right. If we like her, the teabaggers will hate her.

  11. a. liberal says:

she is a danger to America and the Obama Agenda. If Christine O wins, you can bet FOR SURE that Sarah Palin will be President in 2012…. in fact, if Chrissy O wins, the new Conservative congress will vote on a new amendment baring Kenyan Born usurpers from finishing their term. Obama will be deported, and Sarah Palin will be named president for life.
If you like the Obama presidency, hate america, and love gay terrorists, PLEASE DONT VOTE for that life long Christian and Conservative, Cristine O’Donnell

  12. Vast_Right_Wing says:

Actually, I am not “Right Wing”, and I am hardly vast. But I am Republican to the core, so I thought you all would be interested in my take.

@Straight Scoop, you raise a good point, but keep in mind, Jan Ting in ’06 had NO shot at winning, so that was essentially a free vote, casting O’Donnell as a write in. Also, factor in how many of those people would not have voted but for her, and the write in factor looks a lot weaker. Hard for me to see better then 1% here if she goes the write in route (my guess? she does do it)

@Delaware Dem – don’t kid yourself. The teabaggers are not going to hate her because Dems want to face her (they would never for one second believe you “like” her no matter what is said). I support Castle, and I have argued with O’Donnell supporters about general election prospects. Believe me, her supporters are CONVINCED she will win a general election. Kind words from Dems towards here will have no impact either way

I have met O’Donnell several times in social settings that had nothing to do with Poliitics – dating back to before she ever ran for anything. I know about half a dozen people who know her very well on a personal level. She is genuinely a nice person, very charming (settle down, people! I said on a personal level), she is easy to strike up a conversation with. I like her. She is also intellectually a dimwit, not very bright at all, and I wouldn’t trust her to run my Homeowners Association.

  13. VRW, what’s your take on how many hardcore conservative Republicans there are in Delaware? If I read the convention vote correctly, Castle should win 2:1 but people keep telling me that the Delaware GOP electorate is actually more conservative than the activist base.

  14. BGTD says:

I wonder if when she opens her front door, the house plays “paid for by friends of Christine O’Donnell” like the video does.

  15. a. non4now says:

anyone who sees the images of the Teabaggers, sees the lack of leadership or any adult at all in their movement, is faced with the hate they represent and STILL makes the choice to align them self politically with that junk, has to have deep character flaws.

  16. Vast_Right_Wing says:

@UI – Well, personally I don’t like the way “conservative” is portrayed these days. In my opinion, O’Donnell is a “social conservative”, and it really bugs me to hear fellow Republicans decide who is and is not a conservative based entirely on there postion on abortion! That said, I know what you mean by “hardcore conservatives”.

My take is that there are a lot of them, and they are fired up, but they still are a minority. But they are fired up and somewhat mobilized. I could see O’Donnell getting 35 percent in the primary, which on it’s face would be huge embarassment to Castle, and that is my fear.

Not that I expect sympathy in this forum – but I tell you, it is mind boggling to me that here we DE Republicans are, looking at our best and probably ONLY shot for the next 30 years to win a Senate seat, and these O’Donnell supporters are talking as if Castle is Biden himself

  17. anonone says:

I think she deserves an army of camera people to show up at any public appearance of hers and follow her everywhere. And that Evan Q fellow is an royal ignoramus.
