Shirley Sherrod Gets Her Apology

Filed in National by on July 22, 2010

Yesterday Shirley Sherrod got her overdue apology from Robert Gibbs on behalf of the administration and personally from Tom Vilsack in a press conference.

At the press conference, Vilsack told reporters that he had apologized to Sherrod for the pain and discomfort her family has experienced, and allowed her to vent her feelings. She was, he said, “extraordinarily gracious” while he accepted responsibility for the circumstances. He told the press that he asked her for personal forgiveness and she had give it to him.

I would like to praise the administration for correcting their mistake and addressing it publicly. They made a mistake but admitted it. President Obama also called Ms. Sherrod personally and talked to her. That’s so refreshing compared to the previous administration. I just hope that the administration and the media has learned that the rightwing media, and Andrew Breitbart in particular, are not trustworthy sources. Hopefully they’ll wait to get all the information next time before acting.

Ms. Sherrod says she’s not sure whether she will accept her new job. I hope she has a lot more opportunities, perhaps as an inspirational speaker. She’s also considering legal action:

Speaking on CBS’ Early Show, Sherrod said that while she hasn’t actively talked about suing Andrew Breitbart, she “would definitely consider it.”

Sherrod said that Breitbart’s intentions were obvious – but misguided.

“As much as he’s saying it was about the NAACP, he had to know that it was about me,” Sherrod said. “He was willing to destroy me to get to what he thought — to try to destroy the NAACP.”

“He had to know what he was doing,” she added. “I’m certain he didn’t think the other side of the story would come out, but he knew he was misrepresenting the facts.”

Sherrod also said that Breitbart had not apologized to her.

Sherrod also said that Breitbart had not apologized to her. Of course he hasn’t. He’s busy trying to cover his own ass.

Andrew Breitbart is an ass. The fact that MSM still listens to him tells me that they are an ass too.

    BTW, Tom Vilsack should resign.

Obama was totally pwnd by the right wing. He had no choice but to apologize (at the very least). Meanwhile, when is going to apologize for all the lies he has told to the American people on behalf of his corporate masters? There is nothing here “so refreshing compared to the previous administration.” It was just another example of his amateurish leadership. Rove was too smart to let Bush ever get pwned the way Obama just was.

Every time you write something about wanting an autocratic president, I laugh and laugh and laugh.

  4. anon says:

Now Obama owes us all an apology for giving one second of credibility to right wing smear jobs. And like any good apology, it’s no good unless he promises he’s learned his lesson and won’t do it again.

And then it’s time to for Congress to apologize to ACORN.

  5. anonone says:

Silly, nemski. If Obama can get pwned repeatedly by right wing morons like Breitbart, how do you think he’s going to do against leaders of other nations and multi-national corporations, you know, real leaders?

Yes, that’s right – they are going to lead him around by his nose – just like they have.

  6. Don't Fear The Truth says:

When will Obama say he is sorry for wrecking the country?

Ole Vilsack took the fall for the fool.

  7. anon says:

Breitbart is right now probably editing down a couple gigabytes of Nancy Pelosi video to make her say her middle class tax cut bill is Stage One of a secret socialist takeover, with an evil cackle at the end.

Obama will cave and cut capital gains tax to zero.

  8. Don't Fear The Truth says:

She was smeared by the President and Vilsack not FOX.

There is no need to cut any video down on any of liberal democrats simply look at the news. Bankruptcy, employment, housing etc. But keep it short as the Constitution prevents cruel and unusual treatment.

The party D which used to care about the every day person now is a front operation for all the wackos in the world. The biggest slave master in the world is the Democrat party.

I wonder if Don’t Fear means that last part literally or metaphorically? I also wonder if Don’t Fear knows the difference between literal and metaphorical or has eve heard the terms literal and metaphorical?

this was supposed to be a learning experience ,however it appears that the New York Times is as guilty as Fox noise by not checking the facts before writing today’s editorial. which they make Glenn Beck the hero in this lie. had they checked becks comments on his radio show they would have found that he trashed this women like everyone else before all the facts were known and it was only after the truth came out before his TV show that he got to play the one who is fair minded http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/22/opinion/22thu4.html?ref=opinion

This whole slavery meme really pisses me off. I didn’t think I had this much outrage left, after all the Nazi BS, but I do.

Obama now blames YouTube for Sherrod firing:

“He [Vilsack] jumped the gun, partly because we now live in this media culture where something goes up on YouTube or a blog and everybody scrambles,” Obama said.

You can’t make this stuff up.

    How “refreshing” is that, U.I.?

    I blame My Space.

Shirley Sherrod On Andrew Breitbart: “He’d Like To Get Us Stuck Back In The Time Of Slavery” (video)
    Eyeblast TV

    blog.Eyeblast.tv

Shirley Sherrod, who recently lost her job at the USDA after an edited video surfaced showing her saying she didn’t do everything she could to help a white farmer, is now accusing Big Govenment’s Andrew Breitbart of, you guessed it, racism.

While appearing on Anderson Cooper’s 360, Sherrod stated that Breitbart would “like to get us stuck back in the time of slavery.”

Obviously, this is built up frustration for being urged to resign. But why the anger towards Breitbart? Yes, he released the video and she happened to be in the middle of the crossfire being the speaker, but he never suggested her firing. Those orders came from the White House, as she received three phone calls during a car ride home asking her to resign immediately because– wait for it– they didn’t want the video to appear Glenn Beck’s TV show. In fact, the day the video broke, Glenn Beck actually stood up for Sherrod saying “this woman deserves her job back”, while lambasting the White House for their quick reaction– an urgency that was nowhere to be found with the oil spill.

Ladies and gentlemen, Sherrod’s situation is what’s called a political setup.

The Obama administration acted brashly without even hearing her side of the story, or for that matter, trying to find the whole video before making a decision. If anything, this story goes to show that in order to keep the upper hand in the “racist” charges towards Republicans, the Obama Administration had to throw Sherrod under the bus– regardless of the facts. But Republicans aren’t alone in this, the White House also recently said the Al-Qaeda is racist.

  15. Geezer says:

Yes, and Africans are the ones who enslaved other Africans before selling them to white people. We know. Anything to avoid confronting, renouncing and repenting of your own contributions to the situation, right, Ish? Republicans: They never walk in guilt alone.

  16. Dominique says:

Never thought I’d see the day I actually smiled and nodded my head in agreement when I read A1’s comments. We’ve gone from the whole world hating us to the whole world thinking we’re a joke. It’s no wonder that Iran is thumbing their nose at us. I guess Dear Leader wasn’t able to bat his pretty eyelashes, flash his pearly whites and hug it out with Ahmadinejad after all.

Those of you who are still unwilling to admit that he is nothing more than an intellectual version of Bush (less the spine) with even less respect for the taxpayers of this country are simply delusional. I wonder when they’re going to hang the ‘Made in China’ banner on the White House.

    Way to go, Barry!

  17. jason330 says:

So…I’m getting the feeling that you don’t like Obama. Do I have that right Dom?

  18. Geezer says:

The whole world thinks we’re a joke? Better get your balls checked, Dom. They’re pumping out too much testosterone again.

  19. Observer says:

No, Dom is right — after less than two years of Obama, the whole world KNOWS we’re a joke.

  20. Geezer says:

In your case, Observer, you’d have to see a neurologist to get your balls checked, since you have long demonstrated that your balls are where your brain should be.

As I recall, during the Bush years you folks claimed not to care what the rest of the world thought of us. You really mean you want the rest of the world to fear us, don’t you?
