NJ Smacks Miss Jamaica 1965

“Maybe it is Time To Run For Office in Jamaica? ” – I don’t know which is the bigger story: that Rollins’ business interests in Jamaica are still her top priority, or that the News Journal would take such a naked shot at her about it.

Now that it’s an official title, everyone should refer to the billionaire/former beauty queen as “The Most Illustrious Michele Rollins’.
I know I will.

Don’t take that as representative of the NJ’s attitude toward the race. That’s a single post on the papers’ business blog written by a reporter who doesn’t cover politics – his beats are business and food. Their editors don’t always edit their blog posts, so it probably means absolutely nothing.
That said, it shows the depth of her committment to Jamaica vis-a-vis Delaware, and how stupid she thinks we all are. Why not spend some of that time and energy bringing investment capital to Delaware, Illustrious? Oh, I know … you only care about us as a place to run for office from. Nice.

“Representative” seems like a big step down from “The Most Illustrious.”

Maybe she can do a fund raiser with wax figures of John R., Richard Nixon and Bebe Rebozo, to prove her USA creds. They can even close the airspace around Mt Cuba like they used to when ole Tricky helicoptored in:)

A Bebe Rebozo shoutout is really showing your age, JP …

anon –
I read it first in the dead tree edition (for some reason the NJ thinks that I want the Sunday DTE), not a blog page.
BTW – Speaking of the NJ web site. They are now posting link backs – so you can take part in the high level discourse of the NJ comments section without having to don your level III hazmat suit.

Jason – Yeah, but that’s just a reprint of the blog posts. If you think they actually get any sort of editing, just think again. These days, if it comes with a prewritten headline, the copy editor gives a gasp of thanks, runs spellcheck and dashes on to the next item. The editing staff has been cut down so far their bones are showing.

When I picture the NJ newsroom, I see a dusty 10,000 sq foot space with rows of empty cubicles. There is an occasional yellowing Dilbert cartoon taped up, but few other signs of life. The two occupied cubicles, contain flickering CRT computer monitors with the “3D pipes” screen saver playing in an endless loop.
If a curious finger ever taps on the space bar of one of those 1998 Dell keyboards, the screen will blink to a picture of Delawareliberal.net

I thought she was Miss Jamaica 1963.

Every time I hear the name ‘Bebe Rebozo’, I immediately start humming Dr. Wu by Steely Dan. Rebozo was a sleazy Cuban-American business operator (he went from coin-operated laundromats to banks) who became fast friends with Richard Nixon and established the ‘Florida White House’ in Key Biscayne. This is the lyric that strikes the chord:
“Don’t seem right
I’ve been strung out here all night
I’ve been waiting for the taste
You said you’d bring to me
Biscayne Bay
Where the Cuban gentlemen sleep all day
I went searching for the song
You used to sing to me
Katy lies
You could see it in her eyes
But imagine my surprise
When I saw you”
Appropos of nothing, but I just find the lyric suitably paranoid. Plus, it’s one of my all-time fave songs:

anon…. I am pleasantly surprised to be alive after all the stuff i’ve experienced:) So for 5 bonus points who was Robert Alpanalp and what did he invent?
Comment by Elizabeth on 11 July 2010 at 3:10 pm:
Okay, I’m not Anon, but I know this one:
Robert Abplanalp invented the aerosol valve. He was the founder of Precision Valve Corporation and a close friend of both Richard Nixon and Rebozo.

give that lady a cigar and extra points for either knowing or looking up the corect spelling! More Nixon trivia, Which Nixon family member owns property in Delaware and in what County is it located?

Another winner! Sea Colony to be specific but i suspect you knew. Well i was guessed twice I shall work on harder questions:)
Comment by Joanne Christian on 12 July 2010 at 9:18 am:
Actually, I guessed. Both Nixon daughters have been pretty successful at leading quiet, undramatic lives, but one happens to be a neighbor of a longtime childhood friend at her “real” home. Yup, they cut their grass too.
