The GOP Needs New Talent

And I’m not talking politics.  I’m talking about how Republicans love (and steal) the music of liberal performers.
Senate candidate Chuck DeVore (R-CA) got burned for using for using altered-lyric version of Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants To Do Is Dance” for his campaign’s Web ads. David Byrne is suing Gov. [...]

Don’t Get Mad, Mr. President. Get Even.

This is the title of Frank Rich’s column from yesterday’s NYT, which, as always, is a Must Read. Like Rich, I find the emphasis on getting some anger from the President a lazy and childish response from the media. A media who perpetually is looking for the ratings-boosting human drama rather than trying to figure out how, exactly, something like this could possibly happen. So instead of trying to figure out how the legendarily dysfunctional Bush-era Minerals Management Service was still largely dysfunctional this far into the Obama Administration, we get plenty of ink on how “angry” the President is.

The Pentagon Being Asked to Tighten Its Belt — Finally

This is good news — this is Not Enough — but this is genuinely a good direction.

According to the NYT today, SecDef Robert Gates is asking the entire DOD to find billions of dollars in cuts to help fund the wars that they are in:

The Right on the Verge of Another Defeat in the Culture War

NYT columnist Charles Blow points us to an eye-popping new survey by the Gallup organization, a survey that shows new and convincing majorities of Americans who no longer hold moral objections to gay and lesbian people. This is what a specific piece of bigotry losing its power looks like:

Arizona Proves What We All Knew…

… It’s about race.
Maybe it’s time to admit that large chunks of America are in the hands of unreconstructed racists and vulgar idiots, and that the popular election of a black man as president just might’ve pushed these furious, economically doomed old white people into a final rage that is going to end very, very [...]

Melanie George Shows How It’s Done

Legislating, that is. This is a case study in how a good legislator gets good (if not optimal) legislation passed.
Rep. Melanie George (D-Bear) appears to have begun the inevitable reversal of short-sighted and draconian drug laws in Delaware. Legislation requiring minimum mandatory drug sentences was bullied into law by Cultural Warrior Know-Nothings Jane Brady, Tom [...]

The Idiot Frank Knotts

I meant to get to this earlier this week, but work always gets in the way. Frank Knotts of Delaware Politics wants to impeach President Obama. Yes, that is not news, since Frank Knotts and indeed most Republicans have wanted to impeach the President before he even took office for the crime of being a Democrat, or being black, or both.

The Campaign to Waste Time and Money = A Republican Campaign for Treasurer

In a move learned from his national Republicans, yet in a move that was old and discredited three months ago, “Tardy” Colin Bonini, the Republican presumptive nominee for state Treasurer, is demanding that Attorney General Beau Biden waste the taxpayer’s money and the state’s resources, and not to mention, the AG Office’s time (in short supply in the gear up for the biggest prosecution this state has seen since Capano), in a partisan yet unfounded effort to declare the Healthcare Reform Bill unconstitutional.

Glen Urquhart “Misspoke”

Glen Urquhart didn’t really mean to call liberals Nazis, just that liberals and Nazis have a lot in common. That was way back in April, he’s matured since then.

Conservatives Rewrite History and Their Values…Again!

Want to know the best part about being a Conservative in America (besides the hot chicks, of course)? The fact that you can say and stand for anything you want, because when the time comes that you realize you were wrong, you can completely change your position without ever admitting that it is a change. General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thurs., June 3, 2010

Good news. Rep. Barbieri’s bill reintroducing discretion to the reporting of incidents on school property sailed through the Senate yesterday. Which brings up an interesting point. While the Senate as a body could hardly be considered progressive, it tends to vote progressive more consistently than the House. Why? I think it’s b/c the D’s are [...]

McGlinchey’s At It Again-One of His Flunkies Primarying Jaques

The Man Who Would Be Party Chair continues to amaze. Instead of being chastened by having to withdraw his challenge to Party Chair Daniello, Brian McGlinchey has ginned up yet another challenge to Dem. Rep. Earl Jaques. You will recall that, in 2008, Jaques had to fend off not only Rep. Vince Lofink, he had [...]

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Wed., June 2, 2010

The General Assembly had its collective working shoes on yesterday, with some interesting bills sailing right through, and some intriguing bills being introduced. I admit that I was surprised at some of the results. For example,  in the House, Rep. Keeley’s bill having inmates counted at their last known residence instead of their prison address [...]
