General McChrystal’s PR Offensive Failure — Update

This morning’s news has been full of reactions and some deconstructions of the upcoming Rolling Stone article that profiles the top U.S. Commander in Afghanistan, but apparently ends up dissing President Obama, VP Biden, the WH National Security Team and the State Department along the way. I haven’t been able to find the article to read (there was a pdf at Politico that I can’t find), but what I do read makes me wonder what the General was thinking wen he agreed to this.

Poor Steve Cohen

Steve Cohen is running for reelection as a Tennessee Representative, in Harold Ford’s old seat.  He won in 2008, in part due to the endorsement of Barack Obama.  Race is an issue in this district, and Cohen is facing an African-American former Memphis mayor.  In this painful video, some of his supporters have composed a [...]

Texas GOP: Keep the Supreme Court away from the Bill of Rights!

The Republican Party is crazy. But no one, and I mean no one, out-crazies Texas. The new platform of the Texas Republican Party is so full of crazy it should have its own entry in the DSM, but this part takes the cake for me:
Further, we urge Congress to withhold Supreme Court jurisdiction in cases [...]

General Assembly Post-Game Show/Pre-Game Report: Tues., June 22, 2010

Only six or seven days left in this session of the Delaware General Assembly, and bills are still being introduced in large numbers. Why? Because there are many reasons to introduce legislation. Here are some: (a) To pass something the legislator deems worthwhile; (b) to pass something sought by the Governor or other State agency; [...]

Crist Pulls Ahead In The Polls

I’ve been watching Florida very closely mainly because it’s one of the most prominent tests the Tea Party will face.  And while a lot can happen until the election this can’t be good news for the “purge the moderates” group.
Gov. Charlie Crist has a large lead in the three-way race to the be the next [...]

“Professional” Journalists Could Learn A Lot From This High School Reporter

This kid is prepared, smart, informed and persistent.  The Candidate for State Superintendent of Arizona, however, is none of those things.

Watch the video to the end.  Priceless and typical.

Where the Oil Spill Made Landfall

The NYT provides a great article on BP’s extraction and refining safety history, but even better is the interactive graphic that they developed to detail various aspects of this story:

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is Not M*%#*@F*%^$#! Apologizing to M*%#*@F*%^$#! BP

….or to any other oil company, or to any other big business for that matter. Note to Congress — this is how it’s done, people:

(T)his American Government of ours should never be on its knees before corporate power, no matter how strong. It should never be in the thrall of corporate wealth, no matter how vast.

Reminder: Vote for Chris Coons on Stonewall Democrats Poll!

UI posted this some days back, but want to remind people of this opportunity since Friday 18 June is the voting deadline. They have launched an ElectEquality program, where they plan to help 10 specific candidates for Federal office this year. Chris Coons is one of the candidates here. From the notice:
