What Have We Become?

Filed in National by on May 27, 2010

Is this what we have become? The video at the link is very disturbing. It shows abject violence to dairy cows and calves. It made me sick to my stomach. In this day and age, I cannot fathom that there are people who could do this to a helpless animal. But yet, I know it happens on a daily basis. One of the farm workers has been arrested on animal cruelty charges. But at most, he’ll only get a few years in prison for his crimes, because we all know that animals don’t matter.

After watching this, I think it’s time we ask our legislators, both at the state and Federal levels, to make crimes like this felonies, with some real hard time minimum sentences. I’m talking 10 years+ without parole. Or maybe, just subject these lowlifes to the same treatment. In the meantime, we need to find out what companies buy milk products from Conklin Farms and ask them to stop.

A farm worker will be arrested for animal cruelty.

But Bush and Obomba can kill millions of people and nothing ever happens to them.

Um, let’s try to stay on topic here for a change. If you want to talk about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan today, go over to the Open Thread.

My wife, who had neuroscience as one of her double-majors for her degree, tells me about a lot of studies she did on “gateway” activities (such as drugs, violence, etc.) for her curiculum. I can’t see the video from here, but I can only imagine from your description. If I am picturing it correctly, this most definitely would fall under that ‘gateway’ description to something even more horiffic down the road, if this isn’t already bad enough.

You’re right, Smitty. This story is appalling.

  5. P.Schwartz says:

“WE”?? You spend a lot of time abusing livestock MJ?

  6. MJ says:

Are you really that much of an asshole, PS?

  7. This is a rhetorical question, right?

  8. pandora says:

I don’t think MJ’s comment should be phrased as a question.

  9. MJ says:

    Indeed, UI and Pandora.

P.Schwartz’s comment actually reveals the current thinking among Republicans. There is no sense that we are a community. There is no traditional American sense that we have a shared interest in a common future. They simply don’t give a fuck about anything other than immediate gratification of their current whims.

  11. RSmitty says:

That can go for a lot of people, Jason (not saying you, btw), not just your example. Selfish, gluttonous attitudes is prevalent in many areas, too many.

jason, THEY are the community. the rest of us (53 of the country apparently are commie socialist brown terrorist faggy liberals. MORE of a threat to the teapublicans than al-queda.
