A Sad Day for Those Who Fought for Fairness
Lost amid all of the hub-bub of the tea dances that were going on today: Benjamin Hooks, the long-time head of the NAACP, died today.
He was a true hero of the dispossessed and fought for equality for the Black community in the ever rising tide of Reaganism that was sweeping the country. He will be [...]
Obama Signs Memorandum Granting Same-Sex Couples Hospital Visitation Rights
I really don’t see how anyone can have a problem with this – yes, I know some will.
President Obama on Thursday signed a memorandum requiring hospitals to allow gays and lesbians to have non-family visitors and to grant their partners medical power of attorney.
The president ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit [...]
Thursday Open Thread
Welcome to your Thursday open thread. I know you have a lot of burning ideas that you need to get off your chest and here’s the thread for you to do it.
Mitch McConnell has done a lot of media interviews calling the new financial reform bill a permanent taxpayer bailout for banks. I [...]
An Open Letter to the Tea Party
Dear Tea Party Members and Sympathizers,
Happy (or do I wish you an Angry?) Tax Day to you. Since you seem to have appropriated today as your holiday, I thought it would be a good opportunity to try to reach out to you. Despite what some may think, I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent and open-minded [...]
Tornoe’s Toon: Markell vs. Goliath(s)
As a cartoonist, I’m very rarely afforded the opportunity to do a “positive” cartoon. But Gov. Markell has overcome a lot of obstacles thrown at Delaware amid this terrible recession, including the recent sale of the shut-down Valero refinery in Delaware City to PBF Energy. So I felt it was proper to give him some [...]

Teabagger Round-Up
There seems to be a lot of news about the teabaggers lately, probably because today is their big protest day. A new survey of Tea Party supporters found they are older, whiter, more male and more likely to call themselves “angry” than other Americans. Their political beliefs aren’t even internally consistent:
Their responses are [...]
Senator Ted Kaufman Discusses Bank Reform on NPR
John Manifold points to this in the Open Thread and I heard it just abit ago in the car. Man, is he ever good. Dismantling Too Big to Fail needs to be a priority. Give a listen — it’s about 5 minutes long:

Carney’s 1Q Fundraising
Well, now that John Carney finally has a credible opponent in Michele Rollins, he will have to step up his fundraising. His first quarter numbers were just released, and they are good for someone who had Fred Cullis as his main opposition. It will have to improve now that Rollins has cut short her Jamaican vacation.

After seeing Cassandra’s post this morning about how the Delaware GOP is in bed with the Tea Party, promoting their demonstrations around the state tomorrow, we decided to contact Kmart to see what their feelings were about the ir parking lot being used as a staging area for the Rehoboth Beach area’s public teabagging ceremony.
Kim [...]
Bendy Straws Are Presidential
Sarah Palin spoke to students at California State University last week and some students found a copy of her hospitality rider contract in the trash. Saint Sarah has gotten used to the life of a well-paid celebrity already.
Here are the four strangest–or most outrageous–provisions in Palin’s.
(1) The Lear Jet A.P.’s Robin Hindery reports, [...]
Wednesday Open Thread
If it’s Wednesday then it’s time for an open thread. Let’s thread!
Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship has already demonstrated his contempt for safety and the life of his workers. He’s also a PR disaster and the shareholders of his company want him gone.
Shareholders are calling on Massey Energy to seek the immediate resignation [...]
Mythbusters
There is a lot of persistent myths around about debt, deficit and taxes that are fueled by the GOP. One myth is that Obama is fiscally irresponsible and that his programs are creating unprecedented deficits. It’s true that the deficits are high, but it was caused by Bush’s tax cuts, Bush’s war, Bush’s [...]
14Apr2010 | Unstable Isotope | 24 comments | ContinuedTeapartiers = Delaware GOP
So apparently the Delaware GOP is on the same path as the rest of their party and publicly get in bed with these teabaggers. The teabaggers are having their annual collective tax pout at the state-funded (the state that collects taxes for just such efforts) Wilmington Riverfront (and other publically funded places throughout the [...]

I ask KWS about the resignation of her controller yesterday. I also ask about contractors v. state employees. I probably shouldn’t have helped her find the answers, but let me know what you think.

Live Video of the KWS Hearing
This may or may not work, but hopefully there will be a live stream of the hearing for Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart. My fingers are crossed…

Tuesday Open Thread
Hello gloomy Tuesday! What would lift your gloom? How about an open thread?
David Gregory thinks fact-checking is for the little people:
Critics say that kind of truth telling rarely happens on television. But David Gregory, the moderator of “Meet the Press” on NBC, said that accountability is “in the DNA” of his program. He [...]
Now the Tea Partiers Want Their Own Army
I’m sorry, but no good can come of this. From the great conservative state of Oklahoma, site of the largest domestic terrorist attack in US history, we get this story about a Tea Party umbrella group that is looking to form an official, state-approved militia. The scariest part is that this is not just some crazy [...]

KWS Pre-Game Show
This afternoon is the hearing in Dover about the Insurance Commissioner’s job performance. The hearing is supposed to cover the denial of coverage for stress tests for Delaware residents and the Captive Insurance Bureau but I imagine a lot of issues will arise in the hearing. I know that our very own liberalgeek [...]

Military Tea Party
What could possibly go wrong with this?
A new Tea Party group, Armed Forces Tea Party Patriots, has grown quickly since being launched last month by an active duty Marine Corps sergeant. The group, which vows to “stand up on the very soil we defended to preserve common sense conservatism and defend our Constitution that is [...]
Another Tea Party Racist
Carl Paladino is a prominent Republican developer in Buffalo, New York. He’s a member of the Tea Party and has decided to run for governor. From Paladino’s own website:
Mr. Paladino, 63, delivered a Palinesque populist message to a boisterous group of about 1,000 flag-waving supporters here, denouncing what he said was the government’s [...]
Late Night Video — Big Bang Theory
Wingnuts swung into full manufactured outrage when President Obama announced the terms of the new START treaty he signed with the Russians. (The media wasn’t too far behind — I heard alot of factually wrong BS about this agreement once it was announced.) But here’s Jon Stewart reminding everyone that even St. Ronnie announced a goal of a world of No Nukes and showing up the real ridiculousness of the manufactured outrage.

Mike Castle Is A Hypocrite, Part Eleventy Billion
Unlike nemski, I like this new guy with the Coons campaign. He came out swinging today against Castle’s complete hypocrisy. Castle, who’s voted against providing jobs through stimulus and against unemployment benefits, is hosting a jobs fair.
“Congressman Castle voted against job creation many times before deciding to hold another jobs fair,” said Coons [...]
Teapartiers Less Popular Than the IRS
This can’t be possible! That’s what you are thinking, right? Well, you would be wrong. Because a FOX Noise poll tells me so:

Facepalm of the Day
In today’s Delaware Dialog, there is a post by Ginger Gibson that I have two issues with.
David Hoffman, new to the Chris Coon’s Senate campaign, had his laptop stolen . . . from his car on Concord Pike. Leaving your laptop in your car?! In my humble opinion this makes Hoffman too dumb to work [...]
