No Blue-Light Special for Sussex County Teabaggers

Filed in Delaware by on April 14, 2010

After seeing Cassandra’s post this morning about how the Delaware GOP is in bed with the Tea Party, promoting their demonstrations around the state tomorrow, we decided to contact Kmart to see what their feelings were about the ir parking lot being used as a staging area for the Rehoboth Beach area’s public teabagging ceremony.

Kim Brailey, head of Public Relations for Sears Holdings Co., the parent company of Kmart responded to our question about whether they knew the Rehoboth Beach Kmart on Route 1 was going to be used tomorrow.  Her response:  “We were not aware that the Tea Party was going to use the Kmart property in question as a staging area for their rally.  We have sent them a cease and desist order.  We are non-partisan and do not approve of Kmart property being used for any political purposes.”  When asked if this also meant that the parking lot was off-limits for teabaggers to park and walk to the rally, she said “Yes.”

  1. Delaware Dem says:

Nice. I find it ironic that the Teabaggers feel they own everything and can use any place for their own purposes. That is socialism.

  2. anon says:

Property rights can be a bitch sometimes.

  3. Donna says:

We changed the location of the protest OVER A MONTH AGO. We have no plans for our people to park in the Kmart parking lot.

One would think you and the Republican GOP would get in touch with the organizer to confirm your facts before posting such trash.

  4. Mike says:

    So…. where will it be?

  5. anon says:

Please gather at the sewage treatment plant.

  6. MJ says:

Um, Donna, one would expect that since y’all are coordinating this with the kissing cousins – Charlie Copeland and Pete du Pont – and the GOP that you would advise your taskmasters to send out the correct information. It must be terribly embarassing for you to have incorrect information going out to the public. We can understand your shame.

  7. Donna says:

We are not coordinating with the Delaware GOP in any way shape or form. Obviously, if we were they would have had the correct location.

I do not know Charlie Copeland or Pete du Pont, although what that has to do with anything is beyond me.

  8. anon says:

I think she just accused the Delaware GOP of posting trash.

  9. MJ says:

Donna – your explanations are empty. We have the email from the Delaware GOP. Aren’t you coordinating this with Chris Shirley or has the Sussex Teabagging group fractured?

  10. Donna says:

I am coordinating this with Chris. We originally wanted to have it on the sidewalk in front of the outlets. I went to Kmart and asked permission to use their parking lot. I spoke with three separate managers. They told me they would contact me the next day. I did not hear anything so we found an alternate location. I sent out emails and updated our website. This was done over a month ago.

Yesterday, I received the email you which posted on your site. No one at the GOP coordinated with Chris or myself. After I received the email (which I was quite surprised about), I immediately phoned and faxed the numbers listed on the emails asking them to send out a correction. No correction has been issued by the GOP.

I have phoned Kim Brailey of Sears Holding and apologized for this. We never had any intention of doing anything illegal.

  11. Mike says:

But, do you have a permit for a gathering somewhere? I worry about safety if you are in the Route 1 median.

  12. Donna says:

We have been coordinately with the State Police and have permission for parking.

  13. MJ says:

So I take it you’ve also spoken with Home Depot about using their parking lot to park in to prepare for your rally?

  14. anon1 says:

Yeah, this location change was made a while ago. I have emails that managed not to get deleted with the correct location from at least a few days ago. MJ, you really ought to take this post down; it makes you look like a dumbass.

  15. MJ says:

Anon1 – it actually makes you teabaggers look like the Keystone Kops. Do any of you really know what the other is doing or didn’t Tom Ross clue you all in on what the plans were?

And, if you read this post CAREFULLY (you can read, can’t you), we referenced a post from earlier this morning that was on the email from the DE GOP.

  16. P.Schwartz says:

Donna, don’t take the bait. These moonbats couldn’t organize a one car parade. The only purpose for these posts is to create the false impression that the evil republican party is orchestrating your event and to attempt to disrupt it. They are not interested in facts, just spin. Good luck with your event.

  17. MJ says:

PS – unlike the wild-eyed lunatics that laid siege to the US Capitol building last month, I seriously doubt there is anyone on here who is going to try to disrupt the public teabaggings.

And Donna – isn’t that “never give up, never surrender” saying from the movie “Galaxy Quest” with Tim Allen?

Couldn’t come up with anything original?

  18. I wonder — would K-Mart have taken the same approach if the march/rally were sponsored by the NAACP? And if it did, how would liberals around here react?

Of course, I support K-mart’s decision in this case, just like I would in the case of banning the participation in the hypothetical event I proposed above. After all, it is their property, and they can use it how they want.

And I also support folks who attend the Tea Party shopping somewhere else — perhaps WalMart or Target. After all, it is their money, and they are more than welcome to spend it where they are welcome.

  19. pandora says:

NAACP? Why must you always bring everything down to race.

Personally, I want where I shop (and my physician, and my children’s teachers) to be politically neutral.

  20. anon says:

Will Keith Stone also be attending? Honestly, what impact will a demonstration by the outlets have? Maybe Christine will be there and can raise some funds for her rent!
All the people who will be out there want their medicare and social security, they just don’t want to pay for it.

  21. anon says:

I don’t blame K-Mart for not wanting to be associated as condoning this…Maybe Dollar Tree would be more appropriate…

  22. Donna says:

The “Never Give Up. Never Surrender.” is indeed from Galaxy Quest. It was meant to be humorous 🙂

  23. I liked that movie.

  24. anon1, the DE GOP sent out this email this week about the gathering. Apparently the organizers forgot to tell the GOP where the rally was. It’s probably a good thing for you we put up this post so that the word gets out where it really is.

  25. Tim Pan says:

“the Delaware GOP is in bed with the Tea Party”

The Delaware Democrat Party is welcome to announce the Tax Day Tea Party Events as well. There are several Democrats in our various groups that would appreciate the additional reminder.

  26. anon1 says:

I think this just goes to prove that the movement is NOT organized by the GOP. They have so little to do with it that they don’t even know where it is.

  27. A. Nony Moose says:

Why bring it back to race in this case? Because I want to point out the liberal hypocrisy on property rights — because surely a refusal to let the NAACP use the property would be construed as racist by liberals, especially the same race mongers who want to condemn the Tea Party movement as racist. I really and truly doubt that your new-found respect for private property rights would hold in such a case.

By the way, pandora, if you really want your kids’ teachers to be politically neutral, I’m sure you will be demanding that the NEA and its state and local affiliates (and the AFT as well) be legally banned from any political activity. Or was that not quite what you had in mind?

  28. pandora says:

What I had in mind, sockpuppet, was keeping it out of the classroom.

And what hypocrisy on property rights? I stated my position and applied it to all groups. BTW, I don’t shop at KMart or Walmart. 😉

  29. Well, Pandora, I respect YOUR view on property rights — but too many folks on the Left would argue that the refusal was the basis for protests and a shakedown of the company for the “racist” refusal to allow the property to be used.

By the way, I’m not trying to sockpuppet. I decided to change my handle, and forgot to do it on the laptop, too. Thanks for pointing it out.

  30. Although I seem to be commenting after the spam-bot auto link-back, I wanted to check back in with Donna, quite seriously, and request that you use the event to encourage attendees to make sure that they have responded, properly, to the US Census.

There’s nothing more central and needed for our democracy than the Census. Sussex County still has a very low response rate. We can do better. We should do better. And tomorrow’s gathering of concerned citizens is a great opportunity to make sure we are all counted.

  31. As long as the business has a policy that applies to everyone equally, I have no problem with it. I would assume most private businesses don’t want to become the gathering place for protesting groups, no matter the issue.

As always, Moose is arguing with someone that exists inside his head.

  32. MJ says:

If Moose would have read the post CAREFULLY, he would have noticed that Ms. Brailey clearly stated that Sears Holding Co does not allow any type of political activity on its properties. My guess is that this would also extend to the NAACP, ADL, JDL, AIPAC, HRC, etc.

Also, note that when we contacted Home Depot for comment on the Lewes Home Depot parking lot being used as a staging area for the teabaggers, Jennifer King said “no comment.” We asked if they allow any type of political activity on their properties and she replied “No comment.” Ms. King is the Northern Region Public Relations manager for Home Depot.

Guess Home Depot is giving the teabaggers their tacit approval. Hell, I like Lowe’s much better.

  33. Donna says:

    MJ,

We are not rallying in the Home Depot parking lot. We are getting out of our cars and walking to the SIDEWALK. We may even move up to the woods and in front of the State Police Barracks if necessary. This is called peaceful assembly and is our right as citizens of the United States of America. The fact that you want to shut us down says volumes about you.

  34. Donna, Just don’t forget to remind folks about the Census. Thanks!

  35. andre stephanovich says:

Lots of unemployed union guys would like to come down state on a nice sunny day and knock some heads.

I’m just saying. Maybe I’ll take the day off…

  36. Miscreant says:

“Lots of unemployed union guys would like to come down state on a nice sunny day and knock some heads.

I’m just saying. Maybe I’ll take the day off…”

Fascinating. I have no interest in attending a Tea Party, or anything like it. However, should any union member appear in Sussex to “knock heads”, it would be sufficient reason to get involved.

Something similar happened quite a while back. Union members came from Baltimore to “protest” a job site (harass non-union workers, and vandalize our cars and the site). The locals ultimately danced on their heads (off site), and sent them home. It was stimulating.

Please let me know if you plan to visit.
    Thanks.

  37. MJ says:

Donna, no one on here has advocated shutting down your public teabagging. Quite the opposite. My problem is with any group deciding to use private property without the permission of the owner. Kmart had no idea that your teabagging group had planned to use their parking lot as a staging area.

So get off of your high horse and go scream your lungs out.

And “andre stephanovich” is what is wrong with the union movement. I totally condemn his comments. One reason I left the union. My father, may he rest in peace, was a long time union member. He also would disavow any type of union violence.

  38. fightingbluehen says:

That’s very interesting that you imply union thugs are used to block free speech. You people are criminals.
If I hear about union thugs coming down here I will definitely show up.
My job takes me up and down route 1 all day I’ll be on the look out.

  39. Miscreant says:

Not likely, but it has been known to happen…

    http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/2010/04/union-thugs-cra.html

  40. Donna says:

    MJ,

Why do you keep insulting me and the other peaceful members of society who come out to air our views? Just because we don’t agree with you doesn’t make us crazy, evil stupid or racist. You don’t know me. You don’t know anything about me.

As I stated before, WE NEVER INTENDED TO USE KMART’S PARKING LOT WITHOUT PERMISSION. I personally went to Kmart and spoke with 3 managers. They were all in the food area having a meeting. I spoke with them for about 5 minutes. They told me they would get back to me the next day. I also went to the Ruby Tuesday’s and Super G that day. When I didn’t hear anything back from K Mart, we asked for permission at Home Depot because they have a nice long sidewalk. In fact it is a better location and will not effect traffic as much. We immediately sent out a CORRECTION news release, updated our website and sent out an email blast announcing the changed location. This all took place in a 2 day time span.

I can’t help it if the Delaware GOP sent out the wrong address in an email we did not know even know they were going to send.

Also, I find it quite humorous that people are planning to come to events today and pretend to be racists to prove that we are racists.

    Logical? I think not.

We all have cameras now. Anyone who tries to do this will have their picture posted on the internet and be publicly shamed as they should be.

I would like to thank you for condemning the statements by Andre. Violence is not the answer to our problems.

We are just a peaceful group of people who believe our country has serious, unsustainable financial problems and believe we still have the right to express our views in peaceful assembly. Imagine that!

  41. Geezer says:

Uh, that video is what you “thuggery”? About as accurate as your charges of “socialism.”

  42. Geezer says:

“We are just a peaceful group of people who believe our country has serious, unsustainable financial problems and believe we still have the right to express our views in peaceful assembly. Imagine that!”

Yes. We call such people “Republicans.”

  43. MJ says:

Donna, please point out where I called YOU “stupid, crazy, evil or a racist.” Are you insulted because you’re referred to as teabaggers? We didn’t come up with that term – organizers of your group did it last year. We just continue to use it because it accurately describes members of the Tea Party.

But the fact is that many people in your movement in this country are violent and racist. You have active duty military advocating sedition and mutiny. You have members who call Members of Congress “ni***r and fa**ot.” You have religious members of your group praying for the death of the President. And you have Crazy Eileen who stood up at a meeting in Georgetown and bellowed to Rep. Castle that she wanted her country back and that the President was not a citizen. None of this is defensible.

  44. V. Thomas says:

Just viewed the fellow on FOX who fought eminent domain and won!
I am a staunch conservative and am glad to see when “push comes to shove” even liberals realize you gotta spend time and energy in all sorts of ways to protect the freedoms we now enjoy.
A socialistic government will take money, and freedoms and call it fair! Sit on your hands, watch, and wait , leaving you nothing not even hope, as the government takes and “shares” everything you as an individual have ever worked for!

  45. missundaztood says:

MJ I don’t recall the term “teabagger” originating with “organizers” of the Tea Party movement, can you cite that?

  46. anon says:

I don’t recall the term “pro-abortion” originating with the reproductive rights movement.

I don’t recall the term “Democrat Party” originating with the Democratic Party.

    Teabaggers sounds fine to me.

  47. Rachel Maddow explains the origins. It started with naive righties and lefties ran with it.

  48. fightingbluehen says:

Donna, please point out where I called YOU “stupid, crazy, evil or a racist

MJ said, “The teabaggers are simply put, a bunch of angry white people who are pissed off that the black guy won. I’d hate to find out how all of you would react to the first Jewish President.”

    (1) I don’t know MJ, your statements seem to imply racism.

(2)Everyone knows you guys came up with the term teabaggers .

  49. MJ says:

Umm, FBH, I never said that Donna was any of those. Maybe if you read the ENTIRE comment instead of picking it apart, your comments would be legitimate. As it is, your comments are a huge FAIL!

  50. FBH comment fail because he/she didn’t even view the Maddow video or read the NRO link. I did your research for you and you ignore it AGAIN.

  51. Donna says:

    MJ,

The racist chants outside the Cannon Building have yet to be proven. I’m sorry but with hundreds, maybe thousands of cameras there, if there was video, it would have come out. In fact there is an open $100,000 reward for any video proof of what supposedly happened.

One person was heard to shout at Barney Frank. That one person is hateful and has been denounced.

Of the three violent incidents that have occurred at Tea Parties in the past year, all of them were AGAINST our protesters. I’m talking about Kenneth Gladney, the young black man who was viciously attacked by 4 SEIU union members which was caught on tape. There was another man who had his finger bitten off by someone who did not agree with him. There was a third incident last week where a union thug beat up a Tea Party protester during a rally.

I have been at about 12 rallies so far. None of them has had a single arrest including the 9/12 March in Washington that I attended.

    Tell me again, who’s violent?

What about the hateful people who advocated the assassination of President Bush? Did you complain about them? Painting our whole movement as hateful and racist when there are some fringe elements is like painting the entire anti-war movement as violent extremists including the peaceful protests in front of the Zwaanendael Museum on Sunday evenings. It defies logic. It is used for one purpose and one purpose only, to demonize your opponent. And this is called bigotry. You do this as depicting them as uneducated and ill-informed (stupid), racists and bigots (evil), and Crazy (like Eileen) Read “Rules for Radicals”. BTW, I am not a Birther. That movement was actually started by Hillary supporters. LOL 🙂

Sorry but this will be the end of our conversation. It’s obvious that nothing and no one could make you see any other argument other than your own bigoted viewpoint.

  52. Donna,

At least 4 Congressmen and 2 reporters heard the racial slurs. Breitbart’s deceptive video of one hour after the incident not withstanding, Tea Partiers have failed to prove that no person in their group yelled these things.

This Tea Party organizing screw-up is no big deal, so that’s why the NJ is now covering it:

An erroneous news release issued Tuesday by the Delaware Republican Party on the location of a Sussex County tea party demonstration Thursday resulted in a cease-and-desist order, warning demonstrators not to meet in the parking lot of the Kmart on Del. 1 outside Lewes.

The tea party group had decided to demonstrate on the sidewalk in front of the Home Depot, also on Del. 1, but the GOP apparently never got the word, according to Steve Hyle, one of the initial organizers of the tea party group.

“Originally it was going to be in front of Kmart. Then we found out after that initial announcement, and that was some time ago, they they weren’t going to permit us to do that,” Hyle said today. “We changed [locations], we sent out that notice to everyone that we thought we needed to, including the Sussex Republican committee, and they probably didn’t see it.”

Because the wrong location was widely publicized, Hyle said he and his wife will patrol the Kmart parking lot Thursday and “will shoo people away” who haven’t gotten the word.

  53. fightingbluehen says:

“At least 4 Congressmen and 2 reporters heard the racial slurs”

Add lawyers into that group, and you would have the three professions I would least trust.

  54. Yep, you’ll just call these people liars because you don’t want to believe what they said.

  55. missundaztood says:

UI the NRO article you linked to said some Tea Party members had signs about “Tea Bagging” then the liberal media started calling them “teabaggers”:

“The first big day for this movement was Tax Day, April 15. And organizers had a gimmick. They asked people to send a tea bag to the Oval Office. One of the exhortations was “Tea Bag the Fools in D.C.” A protester was spotted with a sign saying, “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You.” So, conservatives started it: started with this terminology. But others ran with it and ran with it. …

The liberal media, to use a convenient tag, went after the protesters with glee. Take Anderson Cooper, the acclaimed anchorman for CNN. He was interviewing David Gergen, the political pundit. And Gergen was saying that, after two very bad elections, conservatives and Republicans were “searching for their voice.” Cooper responded, “It’s hard to talk when you’re teabagging.” He said this with a smirk.”

There is a big difference between using the term “tea bag” and calling yourself a “teabagger”. So it’s incorrect to say, based on the NRO article you posted, that Tea Party “organizers” started calling themselves “teabaggers” to the contrary, according to NRO, it was the “liberal media”. Also “A protester” is not the Tea Party “organizers”.

  56. Watch the Maddow video, it’s more accurate. They did call themselves teabaggers, the sign is how we became aware of it.

  57. Brian Shields says:

Rt 1 has to be the shittiest idea to protest. Was Rt 95 taken already? I thought the idea of a protest was to share your views, in an area where people can hear them. Going 50 mph past a blurry sign is pointless.

Boardwalk is better. Anywhere with foot traffic.

All you are doing at Home Depot is preaching to the choir… which shows the current state of politics is not about conversation, but scoring points against the other team to rally the troops.

Glad I quit. This is the sort of pointless bullshit I would be in charge of doing.

  58. MJ says:

Typical response from Donna and other who cannot win the argument – I’m just going to take my marbles and go home. Nah. I’m not going to talk to you anymore. Wah. I’m going to close my eyes because if I can’t see you, you aren’t there. Boo-hoo.

Sorry, Donna, once again, your comments fail. See y’all in Dover – I’ll be the one holding the American flag.

  59. anon1 says:

The real question is why is this rally being held along the side of the highway instead of somewhere reasonable, like the circle in Georgetown, or the bandstand in Rehoboth? I’m just not going to go stand along the highway.

  60. anon says:

Why are we giving this group a platform and attention? If I saw them on the road I would just politely ignore them and roar by. Most repubs seem to be doing a pretty good job of ignoring them or taking advantage of them when possible (tea party express) to fill their coffers. Maybe while they are out there today they can do something meaningful like pick up littered bottles and cans to recycle….

  61. missundaztood says:

UI, I thought the NRO article that you linked to was accurate.

I viewed the entire Maddow clip you posted and she cites the origins of the “Tea Party” movement back to 2007 when Ron Paul supporters wanted to take a blimp to Boston and dump tea bags into Boston Harbor. That clip had absolutely nothing to do with Tea Party “organizers” calling themselves “teabaggers”. If I missed the part in question, please give me the minute/second to start watching.

  62. fightingbluehen says:

UI, the main point is that the left uses “teabagger”, as a derogatory, name calling term, with full knowledge of what the street meaning is.

  63. Geezer says:

“The main point is that the term originated with the right.”

And that those who originally used it didn’t know it had a sexual connotation. Which shows — well, nothing, really. It just gave us something to point and laugh at.

Congratulations, conservatives, on getting so worked up about it.

  64. missundaztood says:

Both of those articles prove that while the term “tea bag” may have originated from ONE PROTESTER at ONE rally, holding a sign that referenced “tea bag”, calling Tea Party protesters/members/movement “teabaggers” came from the “liberal media”.

Therefore the statement: “We didn’t come up with that term – organizers of your group did it last year.” is incorrect.

To clarify further, the sign held by ONE PROTESTER at ONE rally reads: “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems before they tea bag you” Which again, is not the “organizers” calling themselves “teabaggers” or anyone else including that ONE protester.

The NRO article correctly points out that calling the protesters “teabaggers” originated with the left.

  65. just kiddin' says:

If you want a real laff go to NYTimes and read about the Teabaggers! These people have no organization or mobilization skills. Here’s a question. Are any of you aware of the shitload of “sex” bills Atkins is proposing? This wing nut is obviously confused as to what is a “pedophile” and what is a “homosexual”. All his proposals are “because of the Sussex county doctor”. We need to make sure these low level, small minded legislators don’t buy this crap or Delaware will be considered worse than Mississippi.

  66. MJ says:

Sorry missundaztood/fbh or whatever name you decide to call yourself – your argument is a huge FAIL!

  67. anon1 says:

    You mean Atkins, the Democrat?

  68. Miscreant says:

“Congratulations, conservatives, on getting so worked up about it.”

Kudos should also go to liberals (or is it progressives?) for taking it to the lowest possible level, and embracing it so tenaciously. Please carry on… it merely shows their true character.

  69. Geezer says:

    “Atkins, the Democrat”

That would Atkins, self-promoter. He already showed what his allegiance is worth when he started trashing the Republicans who wanted, properly, to ban him from the General Assembly. Don’t confuse Democratic GA leadership with anything progressives agree with.

  70. Geezer says:

“it merely shows their true character.”

Just as you routinely illustrate the character of your side, I suppose.

  71. MJ says:

Calling them teabaggers is akin to them referring to POTUS and progressives as socialists, fascists and painting Hitler-type mustaches on POTUS.

  72. I propose a truce. Once conservatives, GOPers and teabaggers stop using the following terms – Obama is a …socialist, fascist, dictator, illegitimate, Kenyan…, “Democrat” party, liberal as an epithet – then I’ll consider stopping the usage of the word “teabagger.” As a sign of respect, of course.

  73. pandora says:

I do find their sensitivity to name-calling hypocritical. Those who live in glass houses…

  74. anon says:

    I propose a truce.

Careful, that’s how we got HCR with no public option and no drug price negotiation.

  75. missundaztood says:

MJ/UI it’s incorrect that Tea Partiers named themselves “teabaggers.” I know it’s funny to think that they did, but it’s simply not correct. Incidentally, UI, I don’t use any of those terms you listed anyway.

MJ, calling something a “FAIL” when you’ve been unable to prove it wrong is a “FAIL”.

  76. MJ says:

Missunda – it is a FAIL because you continue the argument when presented with evidence that proves you’re wrong. But then again, teabaggers and the GOP only believe that they have all of the correct answers. My bad, I forgot.

  77. missundaztood says:

MJ the “evidence” proved that I was CORRECT.

ONE PROTESTER holding a sign, which I quoted, that DOES NOT use the term “teabagger” does not back up your assertion that Tea Party “organizers” used that term first, and it doesn’t back up the overall assertion that Tea Party members called themselves “teabaggers” first.

But more to the point, the NRO “evidence” presented specifically states that it was the “liberal media” that took off with the term “teabagger”.

YOU said this: “We didn’t come up with that term – organizers of your group did it last year.”

That has been proved to be wrong by the “evidence” presented.

And I don’t do the Tea Party thing, unless it involves cucumber sandwiches and Earl Gray.

  78. Geezer says:

“I don’t do the Tea Party thing”

And I’m sure you don’t do the teabagging thing, either. So why are you so upset about it?

  79. missundaztood says:

Because I find the “teabagger” label being so casually applied to people simply trying to have a voice, offensive.

  80. MJ says:

Just like your side throws around fascist, socialist, Kenyan, and Nazi with abandon.

Me thinks you doest protest too much.

  81. What I find offensive is a bunch of people who lost an election whining that they have “no voice” and whining if we get tired of hearing their “voice” every time we turn around on TV, radio and in print. Some people have no sense of proportion. Try talking to the truly disenfranchised.

  82. fightingbluehen says:

MJ, calling Obama a communist or other political label is not the same as saying someone sucks balls.
    You must know the difference.

  83. MJ says:

Actually, FBH, I don’t. Perhaps you might give a demonstration for everyone. Let’s say Saturday morning, 10:00 AM at the bandstand in Rehoboth Beach. Or do you do it hiding in a stall in the men’s room on the Boardwalk? Do tell.

  84. missundaztood says:

The last President was called a “fascist” and a “Nazi” and had protesters with signs showing him as Hitler, too. I gave my sister an old LIFE Magazine from the 1960’s for her birthday and it has Bay of Pigs protesters with signs saying JFK was Hitler. We have free speech in the USA, even if you or I find it offensive.

And while I find the use of “teabagger” offensive as applied to the Tea Party protesters, I would never attempt to thwart your right to use it, just as I would never pick up the phone, call a location where you wanted to stage a protest, and try to have the protest stopped.

But obviously that’s just me. Instead I simply pointed out, correctly, that the term “teabagger” was not a label chosen by the Tea Party organizers.

  85. The Democrats do it too! defense. That’s my favorite one.

  86. MJ says:

No one attempted to “thwart” the Sussex County teabaggers from staging their hissy fit. Many companies don’t want to be associated with either side of the political aisle, be they Democrats, Republicans, Progressives or Conservatives. That’s why they don’t allow for any outside solicitation or demonstration on their property. We contacted Sears Holding CO., the parent company o Kmart, to see what their take was on the teabaggers using their Rehoboth Beach location to stage their event. They didn’t know about it and didn’t want it.

At the Lewes Home Depot, the store manager said he was unaware that the teabaggers were planning on parking in the lot and protesting out on the sidewalk in front of the store. He said that they don’t even allow the Girl Scouts to sell cookies in the parking lot. For some reason, HD corporate refused to comment. One customer at HD today thought that the store was being picketed and wanted to know what HD had done wrong.

UI I don’t know if it was Democrats protesting JFK and calling him Hitler. LIFE didn’t identify the protesters by party, just that they were protesting the Bay of Pigs invasion.

And yeah, MJ, you were just trying to help Kmart, and then Home Depot with your calls, right?

  88. MJ says:

I suppose if you owned a company, you’d just let anyone come on to your property and use if for their own purpose, is that what you’re saying missunda? All of you on the right are so damned concerned and fired up about property rights – seems to me you had no respect for the property rights of either Kmart or Home Depot.

  89. Miscreant says:

“I propose a truce.

“Calling them teabaggers is akin to them referring to POTUS and progressives as socialists, fascists and painting Hitler-type mustaches on POTUS.”

    OK, truce…

  90. missundaztood says:

MJ, I’m sure you called Kmart and Home Depot out of your vast “respect” for their property rights, not because you were trying to stop the protest. (LMAO)

“All of you on the right are so damned concerned and fired up about property rights – seems to me you had no respect for the property rights of either Kmart or Home Depot.”

What? The woman from the Tea Party DID call and get permission from Home Depot to use their lot, and alerted the state police about their protest. The reason she DIDN’T use Kmart’s parking lot was because she COULDN’T get permission. It’s all right here, in this comment section.

  91. MJ says:

She did NOT have the permission of the Home Depot store manager to use the parking lot, according to him (and he told this to 5 separate people who called or asked him in person).

And actually, I do respect property rights. You’d be surprised which side I came down on over the Lingo-Townsend project in Lewes. So don’t try to tell anyone, including me, how I feel about property rights. It’s a debate you won’t win.

“So don’t try to tell anyone, including me, how I feel about property rights. It’s a debate you won’t win.”

But you can tell everyone else how they feel about property rights, I get it.

The Tea Party woman said she called Home Depot, and also indicated she was coordinating with the State Police. I have no reason to doubt her, since she did not use the Kmart lot because she did not get permission.

The 150 strong out there today inspired the masses as they made their way down Route 1 to the outlets. Home Depot reported record business as patrons poured in to buy orange buckets, duct tape, and plastic sheathing to prepare for the coming revolution!

Jason- your postings on Del. Politics are grand–the stuff being written over there is mind numbing. Thankfully, the spotlight will retreat from them tomorrow like the attention on Punxatawney come February 3.

This is such a happening tailpipe of a party.
Like sugar, the guests are so refined, a think tank of aloof multiplication.

  95. exhausted says:

If YOU use “Tea Bag” as a verb, adding -er does not equate to US making up a word. You’d still get the larger number of points in Scrabble, unless, as we did, we got lucky and the -er landed on a pink square. Your word. Our win.

My property is in a very visible location. Why dontcha try and have a protest on my lawn, or park in my driveway? Let’s see who calls me.
