Bryon Short Calls for Investigation of Insurance Commissioner’s Office

Filed in Delaware by on April 1, 2010

I have received a number of tips through various mediums in the past hour that Rep. Bryon Short is calling for hearing into the allegations that have been leveled at Delaware’s Insurance Commissioner, Karen Weldin Stewart by the partisan thinktank, The Caesar Rodney Institute.  Lee Williams, who was unable to really get to the bottom of things in a phone interview with Ms. Stewart on WDEL a few days ago, has a story up at CRI on the hearings.

The schedule has not yet been worked out on the hearings, but should be worked out in the next few days.

“Partisan” thinktank? What does politics have to do with this other than that a politician caused this mess? Lee Williams didn’t write his article because Stewart is a Democrat, nor are the legislators calling for a hearing because Stewart is a Democrat. If anything, if she gets off the hook it will be because she’s a Democrat. It’s happened before.

I gotta agree with A2 on this one. CRI might be partisan, but this issue goes beyond Rs and Ds. KWS is a fraud and should be held accountable for her actions.

  3. nemski says:

CRI is a partisan gun blog. End of message.

  4. anon2 says:

So nemski, the fact that CRI supports guns and you don’t makes them less credible on a completely unrelated issue?

  5. nemski says:

Saying that they’re partisan doesn’t make their claims less credible, it just is pointing out the fact that they have an agenda just like Delaware Liberal has an agenda.

  6. anon2 says:

Lee was probably “unable to get to the bottom of things” because KWS is too stupid to answer his questions.

  7. Jason330 says:

Great point Nemski. Not to defend KWS, but Lee should not be regarded by anyone as objective.

Very true. CRI somehow missed the GOP House spending abuses.

The KWS piece was well done, though. Lee is a good muckraker, and I mean that in a good way.

The thing is, you need money to do that kind of reporting, but once you take the money you can’t work against your boss.

  9. anon2 says:

I think a far more interesting point than CRI’s reporting is that Bryon Short is a Democrat. He could have just taken a pass on this. It was up to him whether these hearings were going to happen or not. That should tell you something about the gravity of what’s going on here.

But CRI is being bankrolled by Charlie Copeland, who’s also Celia Cohen’s pimp. At least we here at DL have clean hands – hell, we even criticize Dems. CRI – don’t see them taking on any R’s unless they’re RINO’s.

True dat, and word to yo mama. But R U sure CC be da sugah daddy? Surely sure?

  12. This is great news, and I’m glad that Bryon Short has stepped up to do this.

I just hope that he and his staff do their homework, delve back into many of the issues that have been raised, including those that we couldn’t get answers to, get all of the IC’s crew out in public, ask carefully-framed questions to limit wiggle room and obfuscation, and, most importantly, repeatedly ask follow-up questions when the answers are not forthcoming. I also hope that they request information that the IC ‘just doesn’t happen to have at her fingertips’, and that they follow through and get the information.

Preparation by the committee is essential to making these hearings effective. Otherwise, little light might be shed.

It dosen’t come as a surprise to any of us in Sussex county that Bryon Short has stepped up to the plate on KWS . Man is solid and straight shooter . This is step in right direction .

“But CRI is being bankrolled by Charlie Copeland, who’s also Celia Cohen’s pimp.”

Yeah. Celia just lurves her some Charlie.

  15. MJ says:

DB – your link is a dead end.

  16. She’s got a new pimp in millionair(ess) Michele Rollins.

  17. anon says:

DB was probably trying to post this: “Charlie who?”

  18. MJ says:

Copeland is still Celia’s pimp. Rollins is just trying to be Ma Barker.

  19. anon2 says:

Stewart will make an ass of herself as usual when she’s let out of her cage unsupervised. They won’t have the questions beforehand so Jacobson can’t make up a script for her to memorize or read from. Can’t wait to see her disgrace herself even more than she already has.

Indeed — the odds seem really good that if KWS had an R beside her name, this effort wouldn’t have been a priority. But this was a good piece and am hoping there is going to be more. Maybe more people inside that office will come forward and talk.

Wonder what a hearing will accomplish, though. If she doesn’t have any accountability to any other part of the Government, what do you get besides some sunshine? It would, at any rate, be very interesting to go see this hearing in person.
