Where Are My Smelling Salts?

Filed in Delaware by on March 25, 2010

Where did I put my fainting couch? I can’t find any pearls to clutch! The News Journal weighs in on the Biden hot mic moment:

When you call a press conference, watch what you say in front of the microphones.

Thanks to modern technology, the globe can now hear your whisper.

All Mr. Biden has to do is say something pithy about a crucial topic, say health care, and instantaneously his comment is transmitted around the world, posted on Internet videos and printed on T-shirts.

Well … sometimes you can be a little too pithy. Especially in front of an open microphone.

Let’s just say that a certain choice of words (call them forceful and emphatic) at yesterday’s White House ceremony marking the signing of the health care reform law will get a lot more attention than they deserve.

Dear News Journal, Joe Biden’s BFD is no BFD. I, for one, adore the fact that Biden talks like everyone else.

  1. Delaware Dem says:

Should the Vice President not have said it? Sure. Is the world going to end because he said it? No. Is anyone hurt because he said it? Of course not.

It was an adjective, not an insult. The Vice President got a little too excited, that is all.

I will have to check, but did the News Journal devote an editorial to the previous Vice President’s actual insult to another Senator on the Senate floor? If they did not, that speaks volumes about the News Journal’s credibility.

    I swear I didn’t even hear it….

But it did kinda get me thinkin’–the New Deal of 1935, is the BFD of 2010!!! Well said, Joe.

  3. Joanne Christian says:

Hey DelDem, start the paperwork for me to trademark that comment–let US make those bi-partisan t-shirts and we’ll sell right here OK?

  4. Delaware Dem says:

Too late. They are already selling the T shirts.

  5. Joanne,

You’re having a great minds think alike moment. Press people were spreading around the idea of calling this the BFD, like the New Deal, etc. I love the idea, personally.

  6. Joanne Christian says:

    How about: A G version?

    Obama tossed
    Pelosi passed
    Biden Hail Mary!

  7. TommyWonk says:

They misused the verb “parse” in the headline:

Dear Joe: Parse your words when near a microphone

Must have been a slow day for the Editorial Board. Wonder if they all tapped into Wrong Williams’ booze and then wrote that BFD piece.

  9. BTW, I saw on Twitter that Obama opened a meeting today and said Biden’s comment was the highlight of his day.
