The New Adventures of Old Christine

Filed in National by on March 12, 2010

This is probably the first, and last, time I credit Charlie Copeland’s blog, Resolute Determination, with a find, but this is just too hilarious not to pass on:

This is what you will find when you google the name “Christine O’Donnell.” The first result is a link to her 2008 campaign website. And when you click on that link, you find that Christine failed to renew her domain registration from her last campaign, and as such the site has been taken over by a personal injury lawyer from New York who is apparently not a fan.

Perhaps it is her sad, confused, even anguished face in that picture above, coupled with the fact that Christine has been living off what little campaign contributions she receives in her perennial runs instead of paying vendors and staff (which has returned to ruin the launch of her 2010 bid); but I am starting to feel sorry for her. But then I remember what horrible things she stands for and I quickly realize she is getting precisely what she deserves.

Perhaps the denizens of Resolute Determination can inform Charlie Copeland that on Christine’s new 2010 campaign site, which is masterfully titled “christineodonnell08.reimaginehosting.com,” (yeah, I know, it is not 2008 anymore, and I especially love the “reimaginehosting” touch), there appears the following picture, which certainly conveys an endorsement in my mind?

If Charlie Copeland does not intend to endorse Christine O’Donnell, I suspect a cease and desist letter is in order.

Why is Christine O’Donnell running for Senate?

The quick answer to that question is that there is a rabidly social conservative faction within the Delaware GOP that wants their voices heard in elections. That is fine, but why is Christine that faction’s representative or leader? She has so obviously failed at it and she has defrauded her backers by using their contributions for her own living expenses instead of campaign expenses. She has no experience in government. She has no experience in, really, anything of substance, and no, being a Fox talking head is not something of substance. So why is she the candidate of this faction? Anyone, and I mean, anyone with the same opinions is as experienced and as capable as Christine O’Donnell in running a campaign. David Anderson, for one.

And then we look at the personal cost of running. Christine O’Donnell obviously cannot afford this undertaking. She couldn’t afford it in 2008 and she can’t afford it now.

The only thing that explains her inexplicable determination to constantly run for the Senate is narcissism.

Give it up, Christine.

“and no, being a Fox talking head is not something of substance.”

Sadly, I think you may be wrong about this with 20 to 30% of the population.

If she does end up as a Senate Candidate, which outer-lying party will carry her? Or will it be another write in campaign? Any odds-makers out there?

What’s up with A Delaware Party these days?

  3. anon says:

I wonder how she pissed off this Warren Redlich guy?

  4. Do you really think her campaign launch was ruined? We’re talking about her more than Coons, Carney or Rollins. She obviously thinks any kind of attention is good.

  5. anon,

    What’s Redlich’s connection?

  6. Hi – I’m Warren Redlich. There isn’t much of a connection. Here’s the short story:

One of my hobbies is acquiring expiring domain names and “recycling” the websites. One of my favorite types to acquire are old campaign websites.

I typically restore as much of the old site as possible and call them “legacy campaign websites.” It’s a little bit of my own contribution to history, and a little bit of self-promotion – I put links from the sites to other sites that I own.

In some cases I also value the potential political speech in case that candidate runs for something again (if I don’t like them I can criticize them effectively). Usually those are for candidates in my area – philsteck.com and traceybrooks.com are good examples.

So I did this with the christineodonnell08.com domain name, winning a GoDaddy auction in February of 2009. At a certain point she or her campaign team noticed.

They’ve contacted me a few times over the past 13 months. They were not polite. On more than one occasion they have threatened to sue me. Since I’m a lawyer and I actually know what I’m doing, the threats were not scary.

I should note that no one else noticed this because, well, the site then looked mostly as it did before. And I had offered to post a prominent link to her new campaign site. That offer was ignored.

    Then something changed.

They filed a copyright notice with GoDaddy. This shut down the site. I give credit to GoDaddy, because they make it easy to respond to the copyright issue and they restored the site very quickly.

Since I am no longer able to preserve the history of the campaign – it would violate their copyright – I put up new content. The current site is the result.

    So what does this mean?
    A. Her campaign team is not very smart. They let the domain name lapse which is a somewhat common mistake, but the best campaign teams know better. I know this because I hunt them and some of the most desirable old sites keep getting renewed.

    B. They are also arrogant, and unwise. If you’re going to threaten to sue a lawyer, you better know what you’re doing.

    C. They don’t think ahead. What did they think was going to happen when they filed the copyright notice?

    D. All of these point to something else. They never tried to understand me. It never occurred to them that I believe what I’m doing has value. They never considered my investment in the site (mostly time but also money). They never tried to work with me – something I was willing to do.

So what does that say about their candidate?

    Warren

    FYI — Your headline is a rip-off from de2010.com.

  8. Jason O'Neill says:

Thank your Warren for admitting you were in violation of copyright infringment of the 2008 campaign site.

As for the redesign where he mocks Christine, this shows the lack of character on your part. As a Gubernatorial candidate for my former home state, this is petty and amateur. Not the kind of class that the citizens of the state of New York deserve representing themselves in Albany.

But I wish you the best in your political endeavors. You will need it. Go Lazio!

  9. Delaware Dem says:

It is actually a rip off of the TV show starring the actress who played Elaine on Seinfeld, and if de2010.com has a post up with the same title, they ripped it off that same TV show. I don’t read de2010.com, so I wouldn’t know what posts they have up.

  10. NosyNeighbor says:

I’m aware of the sitcom with the title. De2010.com has a post up about Christine O’Donnell using the title of the show – just as you did. I was just pointing it out to you.

  11. Delaware Dem says:

Well, you said I ripped it off of de2010.com. That is not the case. I and whomever runs that de2010.com site ripped it off the sitcom. Great minds think alike I guess.

  12. anonie says:

Either way, it’s a great title. And the photo is just weird. Looks like it was captured from a tv screen shot during an episode of Jerry Springer, or The Possessed, or some other B-movie horror flick.

Too bad Kaufman isn’t running for re-election. I saw him on one of the cable network shows and he was fabulous talking about financial reform. Unlike Carper, the man has some priciples.

  13. Wow. I don’t know whether I love Warren Redlich or despise him, but this is funny as hell.

A quick googling of Mr. Redlich turns up a story that he’s runnning for Governor in NY as the tea party candidate (‘Tea Party’ Republican Warren Redlich seeks GOP line for governor).

I would have thought Ms. O’D’s politics would align with Mr. Redlich’s. On the other hand, if he’s attacking dumb, of whatever political stripe, I think I like it.

    I am conflicted.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

Really? Wow, Redlich is a Teabagger? Hahaha. As for his buying up the domain name, hey, that is perfectly legal and it is the fault of the O’Donnell campaign for not taking care of their business.

  15. Delaware Dem says:

Anonie… I believe Christine was on Fox News in that capture, trying her best to look like Sarah Palin.

  16. I should correct myself, I think. It might be more fair to say that Mr. Redlich is a libertarian. The story I linked to implies tea party ties, but that may oversold a bit. Libertarian feels more appropriate to my reading.

  17. Delaware Dem says:

Either way, I find the divisions on the right entertaining.

  18. cassandra_m says:

This is funny and if Christine was planning on being a perpetual candidate she and her crew should have been alot smarter about hanging on to a part of their messaging infrastructure.

The Lords of the Backroom will be blamed, I’m certain.

  19. I am seeking support from the Tea Party movement. It’s a diverse group, and my message appeals to the common sentiments – stopping runaway government spending like the bailouts.

  20. pandora says:

The Tea Party is NOT a diverse group. Sorry, but it’s not.

  21. nemski says:

Come on Pandora, they’ve got white people from the ages of 40 to 85. That’s 45 years of diversity.

  22. I can’t comment on the Tea Party movement in Delaware, but in upstate New York, it is a diverse group. There are libertarian Ron Paul types (like me), Glenn Beck fans, John Birch Society, and quite a few other groups. There’s plenty of disagreements within the movement, and there’s the “astroturf” issue, where GOP insiders are trying to horn in.

Just noticed Jason’s comment: “in violation of copyright infringment” ?? Bad grammar and spelling in the same clause. Nice going there buddy boy.

I admitted copying the content, but not that it violated any copyright. My intent was fair use, and I suspect most here would agree that historic preservation fits. But rather than fight about it, I removed the copied material and substituted my own creative content.

Oh, and as for “class” in NY state politics, you obviously haven’t been paying attention. Google these names: Spitzer, Paterson, Espada, Monserrate, Hevesi, Bruno, …

  23. Another Mike says:

    Mr. Redlich,

Your creative content is probably more entertaining than anything O’Donnell or her team of amateurs could come up with. Please do all you can to give Christine and her 7 supporters agita.
