John Carney Chosen For DCCC’s Red To Blue Program

Filed in National by on March 10, 2010

Former Lt. Gov John Carney has been chosen in the first group of “Red to Blue” candidates by the DCCC. This is good news for John Carney, because that means his race is being placed in high priority by the Democratic party.

Chairman Van Hollen joined DCCC Vice Chair Bruce Braley (IA) and Red to Blue co-chairs Allyson Schwartz (PA), Patrick Murphy (PA), and Donna Edwards (MD) to announce the first 13 candidates who qualified for the Red to Blue:

Ami Bera (CA-03)
Paula Brooks (OH-12)
John Callahan (PA-15)
John Carney (DE-AL)
Suzan DelBene (WA-08)
Lori Edwards (FL-12)
Raj Goyle (KS-04)
Roy Herron (TN-08)
Bryan Lentz (PA-07)
Rob Miller (SC-02)
Steve Pougnet (CA-45)
Dan Seals (IL-10)
Tom White (NE-02)

The Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications, grassroots, and strategic support. The program will introduce Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for these campaigns. The very successful fundraising effort helped raise more than $26 million for Red to Blue candidates last cycle.

That’s wonderful, and certainly every little bit helps, but barring an ill-advised tickle fight or two, Carney shouldn’t have too much trouble winning, right? I think I’d rather see some of that money go to Coons for some sort of “Keep It Blue” program.

  2. Well, the DCCC is concerned with the House. I don’t think we should forget about Carney now that a self-funding Republican has entered the race.

I am wondering about Rollins. I’m trying to figure out why she would want to go to DC to take orders from Bohner. She gives orders, not takes them. Joining the minority caucus and marching in lock-step doesn’t seem like her style, and she’s flirted with running for office before and then backed out. Until I see her signed filing reported at the Dept. of Elections I remain unconvinced.

Good point, UI. I should direct my issue to the DSCC. And to their credit, they do have a mention of Castle voting against the Jobs Bill on the home page.

  5. Perry says:

Seems like Rollins has done about everything else, so why not try/buy the House, just for the hell of it?

We need a serious candidate to represent us, and that person is John Carney, a competent and good man. We must work very hard for him in the upcoming campaign.

  6. Rebecca says:

    Well said Perry.

  7. anon1 says:

Waste of money! Spend it on a race that is in doubt. Not this race, and definitely not the Coons race.

  8. Anon says:

If Carney had been bothered to actually run hard in 2009 and raise more than 500k, which is actually not much for an open house seat, Rollins never would have considered this so now money that should go to other races has to go to Delaware.

  9. John Manifold says:

Not try hard? Are you nuts? Please show data to back “Not much for open house seat” claim.

FEC report shows Carney raised $713,000 through 12/31. That’s a huge haul in first 9 months.

In a recession, need we note.

  10. Geezer says:

Rebecca: She doesn’t think she’s going to be in the minority in Washington. Republicans think they’re going to retake the House.
