Who Is Afraid Of Demon Sheep?
Carly Fiorina, ex-CEO of Hewlett Packard and McCain surrogate, is running for U.S. Senator for California. Apparently the Republican primary is turning into a real knock-down, drag-out fight and Fiorina is facing a challenge from at least two Republicans running from her right. So, Fiorina just released a web ad critical of one of her primary opponents:
Watch it all the way to end, it gets weirder. I’ll tell you it has to be the strangest political ad I’ve ever seen. I love the description that Jake McIntyre at Daily Kos gives the ad:
It’s as if a very expensive Senate campaign for an incredibly wealthy woman in the biggest, richest state in the United States of America collectively dropped acid and decided to make an art school, prog rock “concept commercial.” Tom Campbell’s “pedestal” might be “so high,” but not as high as Carlyfornia’s new media team.
Before Fiorina’s ad, I always thought that this Mike Gravel ad (Democratic candidate for president in 2008) was the strangest political ad I’ve ever seen:
Congrats, Carly. I think you got the attention you were seeking.

Question: what do the sheep represent?
Are the sheep fiscal conservatives and the demon sheep is the FCINO who is going to eat the fiscal conservatives?

That was really weird. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any weirder, then there was a guy on all fours in a sheep costume.
If Carly signed off on that, she is just socially maladjusted. The only bubble more insular than Washington DC is the executive suite.
But to be fair to the talent, the ad could be pretty effective if properly edited to a 30-second TV spot.

OK, I had been seeing the tweets on demon sheep all day and I was wondering what the hell they were talking about. And yes, this beats Gravel’s bizarre ad.

I guess you can say it’s effective if people are talking about it. People are talking about how bad it is, but I do think there is something to the idea that there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

The Gravel ad was surreal. I kept expecting to see subtitles in French.
