Two-Faced John McCain

Filed in National by on February 3, 2010

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen testified in front of Congress yesterday and urged repeal of DADT. John McCain disagreed with Mullen and also disagreed with 2006 John McCain:

Even the mainstream media noticed the disconnect and left McCain’s spokeswoman scrambling for an explanation.

McCain communications director Brooke Buchanan says her boss has not, in fact, shifted his position on the controversial issue.

She notes that Mullen said repeatedly that he was speaking for himself, personally, not for the military. And she dismissed Gates’s testimony because he was delivering the Obama administration’s line.

“One person, speaking individually, not on behalf of the Navy at all, is not going to change Senator McCain’s position,” Buchanan said. “There has to be a determination from our military leaders that they think it is a good idea to change the policy. Then of course Senator McCain will listen to them.”

The most recent poll in Arizona had McCain’s approval rating at a feeble 40% and wingnut J.D. Hayworth is gaining on McCain in the polls for the Republican primary.

Extra bonus McCain:

Cindy McCain supports same sex marriage (as does Meghan McCain). She did an ad for the “No on 8” campaign supporting repeal of Prop 8 in California.

  1. Truth Teller says:

China,Iran, Russia and North Korea all have policies of not allowing gays to serve in their armed services. So once again it appears that McCain is supporting their position rather then standing by his earlier position. But what else can we expect from a Repuk who has no principles

  2. skippertee says:

He’s running away from all his previously held positions, like a choir boy from a priest,to hold on to his seat and beat back his ultra-conservative opponent in Arizona’s Republican primary. He must have left his balls and integrity in Vietnam.

  3. donviti says:

and that JD guy is a full fledged bag carrying wing nut. They get what they deserve. I hope the angry fart goes away but man, to go and lose to a bigger nut job.

I cant even imagine the PTSD McCain suffers from

  4. If you get a chance, I’ll hope you’ll watch the video above. It’s short but it contains the very strong statement in support of DADT repeal by Adm. Mullen.

  5. Tyler Nixon says:

Three cheers for Admiral Mullen. McCain is a disappointment, pandering in the face of a primary fight with Hayworth. Obama deserves major credit if he succeeds with this promise and is to be commended for taking up this cause.

  6. skippertee says:

McCain really disappointed me as a man.I forgave him for singing like a canary to his Vietnamese captors soon after capture. He blamed it on being “hopped up” on bennies and inadvertently swallowing paddy water when he ditched.Unless he’s shooting speed in his senate office and a member of a secret scatalogical s/m club,he’s just another punk to me now.

And if Admiral Mullen’s statement isn’t strong enough for you, I give you this – http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/03/powell-favors-repeal-of-dont-ask-dont-tell/?hp

  9. a.price says:

Cindy McCain looks in that picture what I pictured the Witch looking like in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I mean, kudos to her for her position on same sex marriage, but she looks like she lives in an ice castle at the south pole.

  10. Cat Martini says:

I made this point in an article today – just because McCain served and has medals doesn’t make him a good man or a good leader. And for him to deny honorable individuals the benefits and dignity they have earned through their service is beyond reprehensible.

  11. V says:

I commend Meghan and Cindy for being openly supportive of gay rights but really if they want do something about it? stop posing for pictures. Meg, TALK to your dad. Cindy, TALK to your husband. He loves you, maybe you can do something to fix his rampant douchebagery.

  12. MJ says:

McCain dishonors the uniform because he advocates that people lie about themselves in order to serve, which is a violation of the UCMJ.

  13. Kurward Derby says:

    Hey editors,

Aren’t you concerned that ad hominem claptrap like Skippertee’s two comments above is just troll garbage planted here so that R’s can point to the “liberal blogosphere” later on and tsk tsk about the hateful content therein?

Stuff like that gives me the creeps.

  14. Jason330 says:

    Derby,

Are you suggesting that John McCain is not a member of Mike Castle’s secret scatalogical s/m club?

  15. John Manifold says:

Dowd lives up to her potential today.

Tissue-thin-skin McCain was punching pillows while reading this.

  16. MJ says:

Couldn’t wait for Thursday – another rethuglican asshole senator speaks on DADT – http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/02/sen-chambliss-repealing-dadt-opens-the-door-for-adultery-and-body-art-in-the-military.php

Now mind you, this is the bastard that ran those nasty, vulgar ads against Max Cleland.

  17. From MJ’s link:

At the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing today on the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) expressed his concern that repealing the rule would pave the way for allowing “alcohol use, adultery, fraternization, and body art” in the military — and that the army must “exclude persons whose presence in the armed forces would create unacceptable risk to the armed forces’ high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion.”

Is Chambliss under the impression that these things aren’t happening now?

  18. a.price says:

you cant fault saxby too much, it is still 1962 in parts of georgia. letting the rednecks in that state know what year it is would be too much of a shock. they’d jump out of bed with their siblings and hang themselves on the spot.
