Holiday Gifts That Give Back
I’m sure many of you have had the experience of trying to shop for the person who has everything (I know I do). Before you buy them yet another gadget that they can’t use, think about giving gifts of charity. My family tried this last year, and it was a big hit. [...]

Health Insurance Lobby Astroturfs Facebook Games
Millions of Facebook users spend their time as digital farmers, pirates or wise guys and the health insurance lobby has found a way to use these games to further their political agenda.
. . . Get Health Reform Right, are paying Facebook users “virtual currency” – which is useful in Facebook games like “FarmVille,” “Mafia Wars” [...]
Houston Loves Teh Gay
The City of Houston becomes the largest city in the Union to elect an openly gay candidate for mayor. Texas, who would have ever guessed it. I mean this is a state that prides itself in executing the mentally handicapped and most likely executed an innocent man. I would be remiss if I did not [...]

Weekend Open Thread
Only two more weekends until Christmas! Have you got your Christmas shopping finished? I’m definitely not finished.
I think ‘Bulo is not the only listaholic around here. I found this through Facebook: The 10 Least Successful Holiday Specials Of All Time. Here’s my favorite:
Ayn Rand’s A Selfish Christmas (1951)
In this hour-long radio [...]
The Teapocalypse
Documented by Jon Stewart — and when will the traditional media cover this new scandal from the teabaggers???? There are likely teabagging parties all over the US who are appalled at the plastic Jesus on a spring!

For the ninth consecutive year, the New York Times Magazine has published its Year In Ideas section. If you have a brain, you’ll want to read it. It is, as the title suggests, thought-provoking.
I even found one idea that, were I a state legislator, I’d turn into a bill as soon as possible (more on [...]
Carper Fights For His Base
Earlier this year Carper voted with the Republicans to block an amendment to allow Medicaid and Medicare to negotiate drug prices. It caused quite a stir because Carper railed against the unfairness of hurting the profits of drug companies.
Carper is doing it again. Byron Dorgan has filed an amendment to allow drug reimportation [...]

Wow. Just Wow.
Looks like the always interesting Michael Steele did a photo shoot with the Republican party interns. Please don’t drink liquid while viewing the pictures.
Bottom line, Michael Steele has no idea ‘what up’ with the Asian guy.

ACORN Scores A Victory
ACORN has scored a court victory, successfully arguing that Congress’s defunding bill was a bill of attainder:
A judge has put an injunction on Congress’s ban on ACORN funding.
U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon today ruled to put a preliminary injunction on the Congressional resolution that barred ACORN or its affiliates from receiving federal funds, according to [...]
Friday Open Thread
Time for your open thread again. Type away and have fun!
We’ve had an invasion of scientific “experts” lately, so I thought you might enjoy this. Wikileaks has the doctoral thesis of one Kent Hovind, in Christian Education from Patriot University. Kent Hovind is currently in prison for tax evasion (he forgot the [...]
More on The War on Christmas Party
Over the past week, I have told several people about our War on Christmas party. I have been very surprised that I had to explain it to many people. Apparently, it is somewhat of an inside joke on the Internet. I guess it is good that most people haven’t been tricked into this whole War [...]

Why Women Don’t Like Sarah Palin
Public Policy has a new poll out on Sarah Palin:
Public Policy Polling released a study on Thursday revealing that, one year after bursting onto the national scene, Palin still has not made inroads among a variety of key demographic groups. Most significantly, among women the Alaska Republican has only a 37 percent favorable rating compared [...]
Bulo Remembers 2009-This One’s for the Foodies
With both feet and beaucoups d’avoirdupois firmly planted in the “Live to Eat” camp, I pay tribute to my fellow foodies and highlight the Best Cook Books of 2009.
From Eat Me Daily, a distinguished group of DIY’s. Also, check out that Bacon Christmas Tree Postcard. As always, one of the most valuable features of these [...]
Fox News Is Off The Deep End
I was doing my normal evening blog surfing and I came across this article at TPM: Fox Poll: Does Obama Want To Cut Taxes, Or Is He Corrupt Instead?
To be specific, here’s what the poll asked: “What do you think President Obama would like to do with the extra bank bailout money — [...]
Wait… I Thought That Christians Were Under Attack
We get wacky visitors here all the time talking about how Christmas is under fire, or that liberals are trying to take God out of everything… Then this.
North Carolina’s constitution is clear: politicians who deny the existence of God are barred from holding office.
Opponents of Cecil Bothwell are seizing on that law to argue he [...]
Anybody Not See This Coming?
Via Think Progress:
In an interview with National Review today, DeMint said that the tea parties should no longer be thought of as “separate” from the Republican Party:
“The GOP leadership needs to stand up for mainstream American principles,” says DeMint. The best way to do that, he says, is to “look to the great candidates we [...]
Governor Markell Discusses Delaware as a Wind Energy Hub
Governor Markell addressed the AWEA’s Offhsore Wind Workshop a few weeks back, highlighting his plans to make Delaware a hub of offshore wind energy expertise and manufacturing. We’ve been enthusiastic about this previously, and we’re still enthusiastic. Starting with the U of D really evolving as a major research center for applied alternate energy strategies, to the Bluewater Wind effort, to work to manufacture components here there is great groundwork to grow a real next generation piece of the economy right here.

I’m in meeting hell today, so you’ll have to entertain yourselves. Have fun!
Progressive hero Alan Grayson tells Cheney to STFU:
Some early reviews of Justice Sotomayor are coming in and Clarence Thomas is not pleased. I tend to think this is a sign she’s doing something right.
The decision was unanimous, but Justice Clarence Thomas [...]

Obama’s Nobel Acceptance Speech
Below is a full transcript of President Obama’s acceptance speech. It’s a good one.
Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Distinguished Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, citizens of America, and citizens of the world:
I receive this honor with deep gratitude and great humility. It is an award that speaks to our highest aspirations — [...]
Al Gore On Sarah Palin And Climate Change
Al Gore has it exactly right. If Republicans can use Sarah Palin as a source, then Al Gore, who has actually studied this issue, deserves a hearing too:
Exactly, Al. Sarah Palin, please explain how a hacked email is going to un-melt the glaciers and sea ice, will undo sea level rise and will [...]

Republicans Heading To Copenhagen To… I Have No Idea
Has anything like this ever happened before?
House Republicans are preparing for a trip to Copenhagen and looking to derail Democratic efforts to negotiate an international climate agreement.
About a half-dozen Republicans will make the trip to Denmark to oppose plans for cap-and-trade legislation, express their discontent with the scientific community that researches climate change and call [...]
Wednesday Open Thread
Here’s an open thread for a rainy Wednesday.
Here’s another bizzare GOP sex scandal story: “Green Balloons”.
The former speaker of the Missouri House has been charged with a felony after what looks like a bout of sado-masochistic sex that went way too far.
Details are still unconfirmed, we should note. But a woman appears to have [...]
Bulo Remembers 2009-Best Year in Protest Signs Ever?
Could well be.
Special props to “The Gays” for bringing their insouciant sense of humor to the fray. The Yippies live!
And to the Angry White People for apparently skipping English class en masse.
One of my best list finds yet from those great folks at “BuzzFeed-the Viral Web in Realtime” . Trust me. You will not regret [...]
