Republicans Score Political Points, Kill Jobs

Filed in Delaware by on December 22, 2009

This just in from the News Journal, an important partner for the wind turbine tower construction project has pulled out of a partnership with Delawind.  You may remember that Delawind was attacked by the right-wing here in Delaware because one of their principles is John Carney.  Delawind had applied for financing from the state to make the project viable and the screams of favoritism and cronyism came from all of the usual suspects, Copeland, Burris, Anderson, Jensen and an assortment of would-be statewide office-holders.

The owner of Amer Industrial Technologies has decided that the kitchen was too hot.

“It became a political issue, so I don’t want it to hurt anybody’s feelings and so I decided nobody needed that,” Amer said. He said there were other disagreements, too. “I don’t like financing, and they do. And they needed money. I don’t need money,” Amer said

I suspect that Mr. Amer was put off by the whole deal because the Republicans poisoned the well.  I wonder how many jobs at Mr. Amer’s shop they have now cost? How many at Citisteel? How many at Transformative Technologies?

Some Republicans have started a campaign to get the word out about how technologically advanced and conducive to small business Delaware is, and yet they have now helped to scuttle one of the opportunities that Delaware had to start future-proofing our economy.  And all to score political points against John Carney.

Really? That’s the part that garnered a comment? Sheesh.

the evil republicans are to blame for shining a spotlight on a sleazey backroom deal.

crooked Democrat office holders got caught trying to stuff huge piles of taxpayer cash into the pocket of a wanabe Democrat office holder and the guys who said “hey, what are you doing?” are the bad guys.

This is sad. It’s just another example of Republicans putting politics before country. Sorta like their playing around with money for the troops in their effort to stall HCR.

So they had no contracts to sell the turbines, and now we find out they had no contracts to make the turbines, either? Sounds to me like a G R E A T investment for the state.

And blaming the GOP? All those guys did was print the emails that show a severe case of cronyism. I’m shocked that there wasn’t more of an uproar. Maybe if we had a statewide newspaper…..

Apparently annony doesn’t understand the concept of startup companies. And doesn’t understand about starting a new industry in this state, either. But this would be par for the course for the Party of Business. Who don’t know much about actually getting business done, but who do want to complain about this state being not friendly to small businesses. Apparently that is true, except the unfriendly does not originate from the State government.

Hmmmmmm…let me understand…DelaWind, a company with no phone, no website, no office address…a paper entity in name only to apply for $350,000 in state grants to “build wind turbines” when thirty miles north of here an established firm whose business is building wind turbines has parking lots littered with finished goods that are going nowhere because all of the planned projects have essentially come to a screaching halt as their is no financing available today! Praise the GOP for saving you $350k that can now be allocated to snow removal for the remainder of our winter 🙂
