To paraphrase Yogi Berra, that show had 'deep depth'. Every facet of it. I've never seen a more realistic depiction of the interface between the government/cops/street in an urban city anywhere. And, yes, everything's as screwed up in real life as it is in the show. Great writing, mostly from former journalists and some of America's best gritty fiction writers, including Richard Price ('Clockers' might well have provided the inspiration for the show), George Pelacanos, and Dennis Lehane, among others. Incredibly realistic acting. This series is like 'Homicide-Life On the Streets' on steroids.
