An End To An Era

Filed in National by on November 19, 2009

After 25 years, Oprah Winfrey is ending her talk show:

This afternoon, Tim Bennett, president of Winfrey’s Harpo production house, announced that the media mogul will step off the “Oprah” set in September 2011. He said Winfrey will confirm the news on Friday’s edition of her show.

“The Oprah Winfrey Show” will not move on to the cable Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN.

Love her or hate her, you can’t deny her success and power. This will shake up the TV industry, for sure as well as the publishing industry.

  1. Who can hate Oprah? She is a great American.

who supports radical leftist commie libs.. cmon RD, where are your principles?

  3. She has built a free market business, donates huge amounts of money to better the world around her, and occassionally uses her constitutional right to express her opinion as opinion not hiding it with some bias. I don’t have to agree with her, but I know where she stands. I respect that. That is why I regularly grace the pages of this blog. I don’t agree with them, but I respect that they put themselves somewhat out there.

I judge the totality of her life’s work. I give it a thumbs up. I do not support her for office. If she puts herself in the public debate, I will engage her in it. She rarely does it.

I admit that I rarely watch her program. The first time all year was with Sarah Palin and it was fair and well done. That gets respect from me.

so you would then apply the same thinking to an organization that has helped give homes to millions of homeless people and jobs to millions of people who didn’t have them. One that has existed for decades to expand civil rights and opportunity to all, and recently made some unfortunate hiring decisions? naw you’d probably just call them nazis.

    Bad News for ole’ Joe.

Oprah is getting her affairs in order so she can be Obama’s running mate in 2012.

The real question is: will Joe be allowed to finish out his term, or will he have to step down in 2011 so Oprah can be appointed VP and help Obama fend off a primary challenge from Hillary?

remember, you heard it here first! 🙂

  6. I heard that the renewal for her show’s syndication was stalling about a week ago. Lower ratings were the root cause of the demand for a lower price from the affiliate stations.

So I guess she sees her influence and power fading, and decided to be classy and end it before it slips into embarrassing. Good for her. Too many people are too money hungry to try to milk the last dollar out of their celebrity.

I hear the Harpo produced “Dr. Phil” show is also doing badly due to everyone catching on that he is just another opinionated hack hypocrite.

“Lower ratings … influence and power fading …”

    Not really.
