Oh, and here's someone's list featuring the "Top 5 Songs About Bacon":

http://fivebestlist.blogspot.com/2008/01/five-bestbacon-songs.html

Gotta love this lyric from #1. From Zack Attack's "Incomin' Bacon":

You know, baby, I don’t really dig
Flyin' strips of Porky Pig
Incomin' bacon
Duck 'n' cover
She’s hurlin' bacon at her brother
Duck 'n' cover
She’s hurlin' bacon at her brother
Ow!

Great greasy art don't get no better than that.

JM: California, naturally, is one of those considering it. And I agree that diet sodas should not be exempt. The products should be taxed not because they're bad for you, but, per Adam Smith, because they are luxuries -- tiny ones, yes, which should make the tax on them all the more (relatively) painless.

Which cash-strapped state will launch the first tax on soda? It will require a gutsier legislature than our own, but it'll be on the table this year, deservedly. I hope the pioneer state doesn't fall for any lo-cal exception.

Beware of processed food producers bearing gifts. See column by the terrific Karen Heller:

This is part of the desperate effort to stave off taxes on soda. Their lobbyists are also trial-ballooning the idea that "it's not worth taxing it because it wouldn't raise all that much money." If the American politicians will swallow that one, I believe it will mark a new low in respect for the intelligence of the electorate.

Elsewhere, in a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse their version of sweeping health care legislation Thursday which includes a stronger PO than the Senate version and strips the Health Insurance industry of its bogus anti-trust exemption. AARP has 40 million members.
