I Still Say F U Lieberman

Filed in National by on November 3, 2009

Color me skeptical:

Sen. Joe Lieberman has reached a private understanding with Majority Leader Harry Reid that he will not block a final vote on healthcare reform, according to two sources briefed on the matter.

The unpredictable Democrat-turned-Independent last week publicly stated he would join Republicans in filibustering the Democratic legislation after Reid (D-Nev.) announced he had included a government-run health insurance plan in the bill.

But sources said Reid’s staff is telling liberal interest groups that Lieberman (Conn.) has assured Reid he will vote with Democrats in the necessary procedural vote to end debate, perhaps with intentions to change the bill.

I guess I can always hope that Lieberman was just posturing because he wanted something in private. I can’t imagine Lieberman giving in so soon because he loves being in the spotlight. I won’t be convinced until Lieberman backs off the cliff he put himself on in public. On Sunday Lieberman was still lying about the public option and he was saying things like this:

Lieberman says he’d rather get “nothing” done on health reform than pass a public option, pledging to filibuster any legislation containing a public option.

I would use the power I have as— as a single Senator to stop a final vote.

Yes, that’s Lieberman vowing to kill health reform if it had a public option all by himself if he had to.

  1. You all are so tolerant. Were is the love for left of center moderates? Liberals always accuse conservatives of whatever they are doing or planning to do.

In my opinion, speaking at the Republican Convention should have caused us to isolate Leiberman. It is one thing to be a moderate, but it is another thing entirely to stand with your political opponents in such a way.

  3. Lieberman campaigned for John McCain. As far as I know Scozzafava didn’t campaign for Obama.

Lieberman is not a left of center moderate any more. Not that someone who thinks that the GOP was founded by the Christian Right would actually know the difference there.

Joe Lieberman Says Harry Reid Lied About Secret Deal to Prevent Filibuster Vote

    Fox News / The Lid ^ | 11/03/09 | The Lid
Last week in a dramatic announcement, Senator Joe Lieberman announced that he will vote along with the Republican Party to filibuster the Obamacare bill in the senate. It was a big blow to the Democratic efforts to take over our healthcare, so big that Senator Tom Harken threatened to throw Lieberman out of the Democratic Caucus. Yesterday Senator Reid’s office reported that the Majority Leader and the Connecticut Senator reached a secret deal where the Senator will not vote for a filibuster but will continue to vote against the bill in the final roll call: But sources said Reid’s staff…

  6. You have every right to blast Lieberman. Just remember that when I feel the same way about Scozzafava.

Except Scozzafava hadn’t actually cast a vote in the US House. We have come to know Leiberman. You only know what Hoffman supporters have said about Scozzafava.
