Zombie Reagan in ’12

Filed in National by on October 29, 2009

Out of 1,038 registered Republicans surveyed by CNN and Opinion Research Corp, just 29 percent say Sarah Plain, the former half-term
governor of Alaska and failed 2008 Vice Presidential candidate, is qualified to be president.

While the former Governor of Alaska fades, a surprising name is making inroads among GOP faithful. A full 51 percent of respondents say that they would choose Ronald Reagan as their party’s standard bearer in 2012. Mr. Reagan died at his home in Bel Air, California on June 5, 2004 at the age of 93, after a 10 year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Regardless, nearly two thirds of those surveyed say Mr. Reagan cares about the needs of people like them and 58 percent of respondents say that President Reagan is “honest and
trustworthy.”

Two sitting governors whom pundits consider strong contenders─Minnesota’s Tim Pawlenty and Mississippi’s Haley Barbour─both polled poorly, but that’s likely due to their low name recognition compared to both Reagan and Palin.

Reagan’s bones are more qualified, and would probably serve with more distinction than Palin.
