Washington Post: Will Beau Run?

Filed in National by on October 22, 2009

Long speculative piece from today’s Washington Post.

I found these comments from Jack Markell a little–incongruous:

“He’s not the type of guy who is going to let other people’s timetables dictate his,” said Jack Markell, the Delaware governor, the family-chosen surrogate. He argued forcefully that the prospect of Biden failing to protect his father’s seat would not be so catastrophic.

“The implications would be that there would be one fewer seat for the Democrats,” he said. “I don’t think the impact goes on much beyond that. It will be a story for a couple days.”

Bottom line: Nobody knows.

  1. We’re all just guessing. His public TV appearances point to yes but he’s keeping it close to the vest right now isn’t he?

  2. I’m not sure where ‘close to the vest’ ends and ‘genuine ambivalence’ begins. Should Beau run, the race could well be decided by which candidate is the less ambivalent about winning.

Well, it may not make a difference to Gov. Jack, but it makes a helluvalotta difference to me that we not only have Dem’s but Dems who BEHAVE like Dems.

Well said, Brooke — and a thing not yet clear to me about any of the current Dem candidates declared or no.

    He’s running.
