The airlines were responsible to run the passenger names against the government watch lists and the TSA will be doing that shortly. They want more identity information, so people are being asked for at least a Middle Initial when you reserve a seat. If your middle initial is not on your driver's license or passport (or -- in only one story I heard, if your middle name is printed but you reserved with an initial) you may run into issues. There are strong recommendations out there for people who fly to do the work to get one name on all of your legal travel docs, your credit cards (that you book flights with) and your frequent flyer accounts.
