Newt Gingrich FAIL — Oops, He Did It Again!

Filed in National by on September 30, 2009

Remember when we told you about Newtie awarding Entrepreneur of the Year to a porn exec? Well, he’s at it again, except this time making the owner of one of Dallas’ premiere “gentlemen’s clubs” the Entrepreneur of the Year:

Dawn Rizos, owner of The Lodge, which the Morning News calls “one of the best-known gentlemen’s clubs in Dallas,” was named an “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Gingrich’s conservative group. And then Gingrich rescinded the invitation to a private D.C. dinner — along with Rizos’ $5,000 donation to Gingrich’s group, American Solutions for Winning the Future.

Isn’t this fun? Not only do you get to take a look at Newt Gingrich fundraising in a particularly sleazy way (how many Entrepreneurs of the Year can there be?) but Mr. “Family Values” keeps picking business representatives that are not going to make his wingnut base happy. Gingrich and Al Sharpton are touring the US to talk about education (Do.Not.Ask), but if you got the pictures, holla at us!

  1. I’m starting to get the feeling that Newt is a big fan of the adult entertainment industry!

    Trying…to scrub brain….of image….Newt….getting lap dance…..uhhggg

Seriously, though, I get the feeling that maybe these “awards” are just given automatically to top contributors. I think they need to hire someone to monitor these a little closer. “Over on the main database, Gentlemen, put your hands together for Sapphire!”

We get faxes from Newt all the time with the great news that he wants to honor us for entrepreneurial achievement at a cozy and exclusive dinner party. I throw them out directly.

Ever get one of those letters from “Who’s Who” telling you that you are so fabulous they want to include you in the next directory of fabulous Who’s Who types? It’s the same exact thing. It is a mass mailing to generate revenues – they use the ego stroke to hook the unsuspecting.

So, in gushing excitement you fill out the form to accept your “honor” and then find out they want to sell you the Who’s Who book for $$$ since obviously you would want to brag about this to everyone you know. In fact they suggest you should probably buy multiple copies to give to all your acquaintances. You eventually come to find out that it’s not the real Who’s Who – it is a giant scam. Similarly Newt sends this mass mailing, then when people get suckered into believing they won a great prize, he says it is mandatory to make a large “donation” to become a member and therefore be able to accept the award.

Hilarious that Newt got caught on two racier businesses but very sad that people’s egos drown out all common sense thinking. Be very suspicious anytime anyone offers you an entrepreneur award (or a large unclaimed lottery prize from Nigeria, for that matter) – ask yourself “what’s in it for them” – the answer is usually $$$$$$.
