Mike Castle Watch

Filed in Delaware by on September 30, 2009

Once again we’re reaching another Mike Castle-imposed Senate run deadline. Any new information? New tea leaves to read?

What about you Beau Biden? You’re back in Delaware – are you going to run?

What’s a political junkie to do while they make their backroom deals decisions.

We can do better than Castle and mini-Joe

    By all means, name them.

I’m finally in Jason’s camp. MNC has signalled in so many ways that he will not run – most recently in sitting out last Sunday’s AIDS Walk, in whose festivities he’s participated for years – that it’s clear he will not run for Senate. He gave himself a 9/30 deadline to announce, in his comments to a September 5 GOP event quoted here: http://www.delawaregrapevine.com/9-09castlecountdown.asp

That deadline passes today. No announcement is scheduled. Delaware will have an all-Democratic Congressional and Senate delegation for the foreseeable future.

  4. Kilroy says:

The only reason Castle may not run is because he can’t handle Jason. But with Jason being fired from DL perhaps Castle may run for another term. The concern he has about running for another term goes back to a dinner conversation where it was rumored Castle said, he could handle defeat by Beau Biden for senate but couldn’t if Protack primary him for congress and won.

  5. Losing to Protack would be embarrassing! Would Castle be that worried about a primary? I know we have our rightwingers in Delaware but I don’t really think they are the majority in the Republican party here, am I wrong?

I think you’re right Kilroy. If Castle doesn’t run it will be Jason’s fault for leaving us. I just don’t have the same panache on the Castle watch that he did.

“it was rumored Castle said, he could handle defeat by Beau Biden for senate but couldn’t if Protack primary him for congress and won.”

I assume that’s the Kilroy sense of humor at work.

I’m moving back into agreement with Jason and JM — someone running for Senate probably makes a point of attending events like the AIDS walk.

I wonder if the state party “brain trust” thinks they can coast to victory on anti-Obama sentiment, and so imagine they no longer need the only Republican in the state with a chance of beating anyone. It would be an incredibly dumb mistake.

Or maybe the national GOP figures it will pick up several Senate seats, meaning it can afford to lose this one to Beau. If this isn’t the 41st Republican Senate seat, Castle won’t get the kind of national money he’d need to offset the millions Biden would attract.

Those are the best speculations I’ve seen so far. Perhaps the GOP isn’t as hot for the Delaware seat right now?

  8. I think the Delaware party has grown enough in Conservative principles as the Ting primary illustrated that a straight conservative moderate vote will result in a conservative victory. The Markell followers made the party more conservative since then. Now is our time.

  9. Delaware Patriot says:

There is no GOP brain trust, that is the problem. Castle is there and he is the Boss of the party and he must go. Sad to say the self appointed but know nothing and do nothing GOP crowd does not have a clue how low we have sunk. Think of who they have propped up in the last few years. Ting is the worst, now he is a Single payer advocate and a Democrat. The people who found him (Castle and Rakestraw) faced no consequences.

The reality it to get rid of Castle because he is part and parcel of Tom Carper’s foolery as both are completely lacking in principle and ideas. It seems only two GOP people could run and you need someone who has run before which leaves Copeland and Protack. Copeland has the duPont name which helps if you are a GOP insider but is terrible state wide proven by the very bad loss to Matt Denn. I don’t know how he shakes that off but if he can he is worthwhile. Protack has two strikes against him. He is a union member and he has this obsession with Universal Health Care, conservatives don’t want either. His support of Castle is pretty sad and scary. Anyone else the GOP malarkey makers come up with is sure to be a fool and a tool.

Copeland would never primary Castle because of the Pete duPont angle. Protack probably would not either but with the Tea Party/conservative resentment against Castle he could beat Castle this year but I think the pilot does not care anymore about the GOP, you hardly see him comment here anymore.

We will get Baby Biden and clueless Carper and consolation prize Carney. Hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil.

woah woah woah woah woah… lois this is NOT my Batman glass…

and Protack supports unions and universal health care? please someone explain because if that is true, it is much better than any of the “democrats” who could fill Castle’s seat… i may have to take back everything I’ve said about Mike and hope he is able to get me to the doctor to use RwR’s tax money to get an abortion…. i am a guy of course and wont need one, but im thinking i will actually get some sort of ear wax removal, but have them bill it to RICO’s taxes as an abortion… just for giggles.

p.s protack pro union and health care? guh-fahhhh?

I love how no one’s even speaking the name of the GOP’s current candidate.
