This is becoming depressingly standard by now. Another wingnut columnist, John L. Perry, lets loose his inner rebellion fantasy in the pages of Newsmax.

There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.

America isn’t the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn’t mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it.

[…]

Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a “family intervention,” with some form of limited, shared responsibility?

Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars. Having bonded with his twin teleprompters, the president would be detailed for ceremonial speech-making.

Military intervention is what Obama’s exponentially accelerating agenda for “fundamental change” toward a Marxist state is inviting upon America. A coup is not an ideal option, but Obama’s radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.

Democracy is so inconvenient. It means that people may vote for someone you don’t like who may pursue policies you don’t agree with. So the answer to that is to set up a military junta. Of course, I’m not sure why I didn’t think of that.

John L. Perry is not the only conservative fantasizing about rebellion. Conservative Republican Trent Franks spoke at the How To Take Back America Conference and indulged in some hyperbole.

But if there are any lingering doubts, consider the fact that the Arizona congressman labeled President Obama an “enemy of humanity” at the event.

“Obama’s first act as president of any consequence, in the middle of a financial meltdown, was to send taxpayers’ money overseas to pay for the killing of unborn children in other countries…there’s almost nothing that you should be surprised at after that.

“We shouldn’t be shocked that he does all these other insane things. A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can’t do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity.”

Franks’ spokeswoman later clarified his statement, saying that Franks was actually referring to “unborn humanity.” Franks’ spokeswoman offered no follow-up to the “he has no place in any station of government” statement. I guess Franks stands by that one.

Update: Perry’s column has been completely disappeared at Newsmax.

Newsmax has apparently removed the column from its site. Links are now redirected to the homepage, and Perry’s author page has no mention of his latest work.

Media Matters has the whole column in its archive, if you wish to read the orginal piece.

If there were a rebellion, make no mistake, it will not be bloodless. If the fantasy scenario of a “family intervention” were to happen, there will be blood in the streets.

  2. I’m with you lg. I have no idea why Perry thinks there can be some bloodless coup. Just because the majority of people he talks to are batsh*t insane conservatives, that is not the majority of the country. I’m really hoping this crazy talk will burn itself out soon.

  3. I just read that Newsmax has pulled the article. I guess they got some negative reaction.

    I thought it already happened.

Shouldn’t somebody be suing him for violating Fletcher Knebel’s copyright on Seven Days in May?

  6. Progressive Mom says:

These people worship at the shrine of the Founding Fathers and “original intent” … I’m trying to find bloodless coup in the constitution but my copy must be faulty…can’t find that passage…. American, love it or leave it: Perhaps they’d all like to move to Haiti?

  7. They worship the founders and original intent almost the same way they worship the Bible. They selectively parse quotes or just make stuff up to justify doing what they want to do.

  8. Geezer says:

What’s especially ironic about this is that the actual Founding Fathers wrote extensively about why the country should not have a standing army, and the threat of coup was the No. 1 reason why. IN short, this guy couldn’t be further off-base.

  9. anonone says:

To people like Perry, the “Obama problem” in 2009 is just the “negro problem” from the 1960’s repackaged. He wants Obama to be the White House lawn ornament.

Military Coup’s usually don’t work out very well. Replacing one tyrant with another is not a win for individual liberty.

Gotta love A1 – If you dislike Obama you’re racist. The standard meme of the anti-intellectual.

  11. anon says:

    “Replacing one tyrant with another”

um, that is not exactly the definition of a military coup. It seems more common for generals to depose an elected leader.

Generals love tyrants. Tyrants don’t get to become tyrants by annoying the military.

Good insight. And therefore the challenges to Obama’s birth certificate are just a restatement of “Send them back to Africa.”

  13. Donviti says:

yes, I know you already linked to it…but I like my title better 🙂

  14. a. price says:

why not from now on just call these threads “here is what they terrorists said today”

  15. a., we can call them “today’s seditionist update.”

  16. Yeah, DV, I’m not so fond of my title. I was trying to find a clever way to tie the two things together.

“Gotta love A1 – If you dislike Obama you’re racist. The standard meme of the anti-intellectual.”

Funny how conservatives hated Clinton with a white hot hate, made up crap about him (that Vince Foster stuff comes to mind), etc…..but never used this kind of extremist language, never had governors recommend secession, and never advocated an overthrow of the government….

    …hmmmm — I wonder what’s different now…hmmmmm…

  19. anonone says:

Gotta love Mike W. He thinks the elected President of the United States of America is a “tyrant.” The standard meme of a crazy rightwing nut.

  20. h. says:

I don’t think you can classify him as a tyrant just yet.

  21. mike w. says:

Boy, Anonone really fails at reading comprehension. Nowhere did I say Obama is a tyrant nor infer it.

Par for the course for him though, he’s far from bright.
