Glenn Beck’s Million Moron March Today

Filed in National by on September 12, 2009

I’ll let Bob Cesca speak for me:

As Glenn Beck’s pasty white zombies descend on Washington for the 9/12 Rally, I can’t help but the recall these words:

You know, it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims’ families. It took me about a year. Um, and I had such compassion for them and I really, you know, I wanted to help them, and I was behind — let’s give them money, let’s get them started, and all of this stuff. And I really didn’t — all the 3,000 victims’ families, I don’t hate all of them, I hate about, probably about ten of them. But when I see 9/11 victim family, you know, on television, or whatever, I’m just like, ‘Oh, shut up.’ I’m so sick of them. Because they’re always complaining. And we did our best for them. And again, it’s only about ten.

I’m not going to worry my beautiful mind as to why the media will devote hours to the birthers/deathers and nothing to all the people who marched against war, without having a whole news channel devoted to bussing them in.

Oh well, I know what counter-protestors can say: YOU LIE!

Here’s a picture of the crowd, from 12 p.m., around the height of the protest. The crowd doesn’t look too imposing, does it?

This is the part I love:

    Because they’re always complaining.

From a man who makes a pretty damn fine living from lying and complaining.

  2. wikwox says:

Seen a couple pictures so far, they looked “Posed” to exaggerate the amount of people present.Hopefully a fight will break out between ‘Baggers and Birthers over who’s more patriotic.

  3. all things in moderation says:

    hahaha

over a million people show up in DC on a rainy saturday to protest against The One and his radical left agenda, and they must be stupid cause they aren’t leftist…

  4. The estimates I’m seeing from news organizations is 40,000 or less. Way less than 1 million.

  5. Delaware Dem says:

Remember UI, facts mean nothing to the liars. If they say it is a million when facts say it is only 40,000, then the figure is a million and you are an evil socialist, communist, marxist, fascist, muslim traitor for pointing out the truth.

  6. Progressive Mom says:

By Monday morning, Fox, Blen Geck, and several of the posters here will declare that this “march” had 6 million people in it, all armed with guns and birth certificates, God-fearing (as long as its an evangelical God), white, marching in a hurricane with 120 mph winds, and saving all of the rest of us from…..

    ….affordable health care.

    sigh.

  7. I hear you PM. The teabaggers are fighting against…universal healthcare…it’s bizarre.

  8. nemski says:

How did these protesters get to DC? Did they use the “interstates”? F’ing idiots.

  9. Building roads is a function of government that the Founders would have recognized. Taking over 1/6 of the economy to provide health care isn’t.

  10. Delaware Dem says:

Again with the lies. How is the government taking over 1/6 of the economy? By regulating it?

  11. Progressive Mom says:

Honestly, who are these Founders we keep hearing about? The actual signers of the Declaration and creators of the Constitution were not in agreement on many foundational issues. They compromised to create a government.

Oh, wait, compromise….not a word in the current conservative vocabulary..

We could, if we wanted to be as silly as our conservative friends, find a “founder” who agreed with almost any side. Including slavery and no rights for women.

Oh, wait a minute…THOSE Founders are the ones Republicans want to emulate.

    Never mind.

  12. Iron my shirt and make me dinner, PM. 🙂

  13. anonie says:

Fox News has stopped reporting a figure for turnout today, heving determined it was an utter failure. CNN has gone with thousands, as has ABC. Yawnnnnnnn. Back to the drawing board.

  14. anon says:

Wasn’t there a special election today? Any word?

  15. Not yet anon, I just put up a thread for people to discuss the election.

  16. Scott P says:

I have a question, and I mean this seriously: Can anyone tell me exactly what these people are suppossed to be protesting against? I don’t think it’s really health care, because I haven’t seen many things relating specifically to it. It can’t be the “take-over of the government”, because, well Matt Yglesias puts it this way:

Probably the weirdest thing about the Glenn Beck / Tea Party nexus to me is that it tends to rely so heavily on libertarian rhetoric and fear of incipient authoritarianism. These kind of sentiments would be a lot easier to take seriously if not for the fact that we didn’t see these people marching out in the streets when George W. Bush used the threat of terrorism to justify secret, illegal warrantless surveillance, detention without trial, torture, etc. Indeed, the very same people who spend Monday, Wednesday, and Friday complaining that Barack Obama’s “czars” are a threat to liberty not only weren’t worried about czars in the Bush years, they spend Tuesday and Thursday worrying that Obama’s not doing enough to ensure that intelligence operatives can break the law with impunity.

Seems to me that it’s just a big “We Hate Obama” circle-jerk. Anyone enlighten me? Is there really a point to this outside of just shotgun-style childish venting?

  17. I think it’s a bunch of sore losers getting together to vent, actually. I kind of wonder if Obama’s speech took the wind out of some people’s sails, actually. We kept hearing huge numbers for this protest and it turned out so low.

  18. anonone says:

The pro-legal-segregationist Rhymes With White obviously prefers the days when the Southern economy was largely driven by slaves.

  19. Post now updated with crowd picture.

  20. anon says:

    Rhymes With White.

And I thought it was light. Silly me.

  21. anon says:

And that picture sums it up. It should be on the homepage!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Here is a photo that shows more than the liberal source want to admit. http://pajamasmedia.com/eddriscoll/files/2009/09/dcteaparty0912mkhsm.jpg

  23. Several rightwing sites have been trying to pass off a photo of another event as today’s protest, according to this dkos diary.

  24. The Honorable Rhymes with Right is very much correct when he wrote that we, the Forefathers of These United States, support the government building and maintaining the road ways of the colonies. However, the hard surfaces that you cover the road ways of today is not something we envisioned. It is our belief that you should remove these covers and return the the dirt roads we intended.

  25. nemski says:

Jason, that photo looks like only one block on the mall. I know that size isn’t everything, but . . .

  26. Geezer says:

“Taking over 1/6 of the economy to provide health care isn’t.”

Because leeches were still very reasonably priced before 1800.

  27. Master Geezer, you write no truer words. A good blood letting is great to reduce the Fever.

  28. Here is another aerial I got from a Twitter friend: http://twitpic.com/hhxrj

  29. nemski says:

Wow, so they weren’t even on the Mall?

  30. wave_man says:

I liked Bill Maher’s comment that they would not get a full million morons, because a lot would be confused and drive to Washington state. My friends in Spokane are now overwhelmed by asshole zombies.

“over a million people show up in DC on a rainy saturday to protest against The One and his radical left agenda, and they must be stupid cause they aren’t leftist…”

It’s hard to believe that the Right is so sure that Obama is a Leftist…He’s a Rightist and all you have to do is look at his voting record to see it.

  32. ScrewYOU says:

“My friends in Spokane are now overwhelmed by asshole zombies.”

Do you mean liberal assholes? Take your sarcasm, and if you live in Spokane, get the FO. I’m sure they don’t need any more of you “asshole” liberals, then have already infested the place. It’s hard to believe you leftists are this clueless…

  33. Jim says:

I feel sorry for all of you. You people are really Sad. People who care more about the Country and You, but You have been taught to HATE. Also Our leaders are not doing the best thing for your CHILDREN. You have to care about them being free. I’m sure you will laugh at Me too for telling you that I pray the The Good Lord, Jesus Christ and most of all the Holt Spirit will enter your Heart. Try not to be so mad and judge everyone like you are all better than every other thing on the planet. Peace Out!

  34. I’m really hoping to be filled with Holt Spirit soon.

  35. cassandra_m says:

Do you think that this guy just found his way home from the Moran March?

  36. It takes a lot longer if you’re avoiding the socialized road system.

  37. Progressive Mom says:

…UI,CM … thanks for the big laugh….You have just outdone Wonkette…
