Same as the Old Boss?
Brandywine School District has announced that Dr. Mark Holodick, principal of Concord High School, is the sole finalist for the superintendent position in the Brandywine School District left vacant when Dr. James Scanlon left, reports The Community News.
With a child in the Brandywine School District, I was saddened when Scanlon said he was leaving. He [...]
Crazy Eileen Gets a Second Chance to Shine.
Congressman Mike Castle will hold a Town Hall meeting at the Christiana Hospital Education Center at 6 pm tomorrow.
Aside from the Birthers and Deathers screaming and shouting, perhaps we will get an answer at long last to his future ambitions or lack thereof. I have to think someone will ask [...]
A Warning and a Call of Respect.
Conservatives will face this dilemma again when Presidents Carter and Clinton pass away, and we liberals will face it again when Dick Cheney and George W. Bush pass away. I think it is helpful to remember how you felt when a loved one died, and then imagine how you would feel if someone said to you about that loved one what you want to say about a dead political adversary. And on an unrelated matter, we are rapidly approaching the point where I will embrace a key teaching of the Old Testament.

Carter the Warlord.

The Next Phase of the Heathcare Battle Begins
Josh Marshall raises the elephant in the room: that timing and circumstance of Ted Kennedy’s death, and indeed the events of the last year of his life, make it impossible to separate from the politics of the moment.

And nothing — nothing is going to keep me away from this special gathering tonight.

Gentlemen, Cross Your Legs
“If we need to save our penises from anybody, it’s Obama.” —Rush Limbaugh
Birthers and Deathers, make room for the Penis Protectors. Can’t make this stuff up. Although… this new erected outrage should provide endless entertainment.

Ted Kennedy, “Lion Of The Senate,” Has Died
This is very sad news.
U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, a towering figure in the Democratic Party who took the helm of one of America’s most fabled political families after two older brothers were assassinated, died at age 77, his family said.
“Edward M. Kennedy, the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply, died late [...]

UPDATE — Comment Rescue: Open Questions on Ramifications of Sports Betting
This is from RSmitty, who inexplicably wasn’t going to comment today:
Sports gambling in DE aside, this really has me burning. How did an injunction hearing before a panel of three circuit court judges suddenly turn into a legal decision on the entire case, that was supposed to be heard later? I obviously don’t have a legal background, so how in the hell did that happen? [...]

Senator Carper is apparently holding a telephone Town Hall tonite — there was a message waiting for me on my phone last night providing a heads up that they would call. And we had a tip from one of our contributors that he had gotten the same call.

25Aug2009 | cassandra_m | 9 comments | ContinuedTorture Still Doesn’t Work
What a surprise – the declassified document that Cheney says proves the effectiveness of the “enhanced interrogation techniques” (and the rest of the world calls torture) doesn’t prove Cheney’s point at all. Spencer Ackerman gives some examples:
Those documents were obtained today by The Washington Independent and are available here. Strikingly, they provide little [...]
The Summer Of Our Discontent
You’re going to have to color me confused by all the attention given to the Senate Finance Committee and the “Gang of Six” that supposedly hold the future of health insurance reform in their hands. Why is there all this emphasis on this particular committee’s bill? Four of the five committees working on [...]

Is Beck Going Belly Up?
While Delaware Liberal was supposedly imploding last week, real news was occurring as Glenn Beck was losing advertisers faster than Republicans lose voters. What’s all the hubbub about? Beck was on one of the Fox News TV chat shows and he called the President a “rasict”. I know, I know, this doesn’t surprise you as [...]

Why The News Journal Sucks!
I don’t know if you missed it, but DelawareLiberal has been mentioned in the News Journal twice in the past two weeks. Both times, we were trotted out to smack us around. The most egregious was the mention on Sunday about our recent change in personnel.
The other mention seems trivial, but it is a little more insidious. Smitty saw it and pointed it out to us. The discussion of DL was that we were trading in baseless rumors.
