I’m Considering Signing The Petition

Filed in National by on August 29, 2009

Yes, I know it’s silly, and no, I won’t sign the petition for Texas secession – which, btw, has over 1 million signatures.  What I’d like to do is call them on their bluff.  My guess is that within a year of secession Texas would resemble the set from Escape From New York… or be invaded by Mexico.

Texas secessionists have become tiresome.

If Texas seceded the NFL, at least, would become international.

It would be worth it just to see them begging to join NAFTA.

Alaska is a big ol’ welfare state… of course, they could try leaving. I’m really tired of the idle threats.

I doubt it. Alaska is more dependent on federal aid than any state in the union and collects the largest share of pork per capita. Alaska would go bankrupt in a month without your tax dollars, Rick.

Really? Do you realize how much oil and natural gas Alaska has…that the feds won’t allow to be accessed. Freed from the burden of the over-regulatory federal leviathan, Alaska would produce great wealth; another Norway.

The Federal leviathan is part of what pays for much of the current development of Alaska oil and gas resources.

Without it, there’d be a lot more.
