Working harder? Making Less?

Unlike Wall Street where a company like Merril Lynch can lose $27bln in a quarter and pay out $37.5 Bln in bonuses back in the real world the American worker is more productive and making less. Hizzah!  Trickle down economics!  What’s that you say?  The American dream!  I know, I know I hear all you […]

Back in May, Republican language guru Frank Luntz wrote a memo for Republicans on how to fight the Democratic plan for health care reform. The Republicans did a good job of following the script for a while, often invoking “government-run health care” and “government bureaucrats” when making their arguments. In the real world that I inhabit, insurance companies are entities that make money by taking your payments and denying you treatment when you become too […]

I was having lunch at the Iron Hill Brewery with a friend when my phone rang. The caller ID said that it was “home” calling.
“Hi Honey.” Silence.
“Hello?”
There was a slight catching of the breath on the other end of the line.
“Honey?”
“The doctor called… It’s cancer”

Via HuffPo: On July 13, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law a measure that establishes–among other restrictions on access to sexual and reproductive health services–an in-person counseling requirement and a 24-hour waiting period before a woman can obtain an abortion. Proponents of the new law claim that it helps inform women’s abortion decisions. In […]

Lobbyists to the IC’s Office?

Filed in Delaware by on August 11, 2009 30 Comments

On 30 July 2009, the Delaware Insurance Commissioner’s office sent out a Press Release announcing their “new” initiative for “the formation of a new revenue generating division within the Department of Insurance entitled the Bureau of Captive and Financial Insurance Products”. There was a subsequent Press Release, this time working hard at making the case that this is an economic development task for the state.

A bit of small print at the end of the first Press Release caught my attention:
