Filed in National by on August 10, 2009

There is an event tonite in Newark to providing up-to-date information and some training on the current state of the health insurance reform effort:

WHEN: Monday, August 10, 2009 at 6:30pm

WHERE: Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark, 420 Willa Road, Newark, DE 19711

WHAT:

Our request for a knowledgeable briefing on the state of the Health Reform legislation in Congress has been answered. Join us for this training and briefing meeting at the UUFN in Mackinnon Hall on
August 10, 2009.

This meeting is open to the public.

We invite especially folks from other Delaware groups also working on Federal Health Care reform. Organizing for America, Health Care for America Now, SEIU Change that Works, Delaware, MoveOn, and ACORN are among the groups who have been working together on this for the past several months. Join us this night.
Kathleen Stoll – Deputy Executive Director AND Director of Health Policy of Families USA will be at the UUFN at 6:30 PM on 10 August 2009 to provide a training/briefing on the state of the national Health Care Reform Legislation. The date of this meeting is such that the legislation developed by the US House of Representatives should have been completed. Kathleen D. Stoll is the Director of Health Policy at Families USA, a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans. In this position, she oversees the organization’s formulation of health policy positions and the analysis of specific health care proposals. Ms. Stoll also oversees the delivery of technical assistance to state advocates and state legislators on health policy and programs.

I just saw this from a Paul Baumbach comment, so I apologize for how late this notice is, although I suspect our readers are already planning to go.

The National Council of Churches with over 50M members have endorsed single payer, as well as the Presbyterian National Organization. The Unitarian/Universalists have also endorsed single payer. 2% of the people in America are Unitarian and 33% of the people in the American Hall of Fame are Unitarians. This shows the thinking that goes on and the compassion these unitarians have. The people who helped shape our democracy in New England were Unitarian. This is another indication of how they use their reasoned sensible intelligence, their compassionate concern for their fellow human beings…supporting Single Payer health care reform.

Families USA is funded by these special health care interests. SEIU sold out and were threatened to be thrown out of the AFL CIO. Al Capone’s legacy still lives

  3. Yesterday, I did see where Families USA is funded by the special interests. I am still planning on going to see what’s what.

Families USA is a shill for corporate America. This right wing group was one of the ones Rachel Maddow outed. Who invited these people to a “Unitarian” event? Do we have some tea baggers infiltrating the Unitarians?

anon2, kindly provide links for your contention that Families USA is a shill for corporate America. I am interested how a member of Common Cause is on Family USA’s board (http://www.familiesusa.org/about/), if your allegation is true. Hopefully the allegation did not originate with Sarah Palin.

Several local folks came together this year to further the cause of healthcare reform. They included Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark (UUFN) member Richard Field, and SEIU member Jen Hill. Richard and Jen were two of the key people who put this program together. I am the current social justice committee chair of the UUFN.

We have held many public forums at UUFN, including those for political candidates (of all parties). We work hard to promote the democratic process (through an informed public) and to promote respect for and dignity of everyone on our planet, through exploring reform to health care.

Why not admit the goal. Free healthcare for all. Oh except those we deem make enough to afford it, so Free healthcare for most everybody, everyone else pay – according to what you can afford – which we will determine. You can be pretty much sure though, it will eventually be all you earn, well at most 90-95%.

There were 75-80 people. Kathleen was very knowledgeable and a good speaker. There were many good questions, very good handouts, and no Crazy Eileens!

Next up, the forum next Monday at 2pm at the Carvel building in Wilmington. Senator Carper is expected to attend (and explain why he supports lobbyists more than Delawareans).

  8. anon2 says:

Carper will say: “Look I am a Senator from a very small state. There are not enough people in the State of Delaware to fund my million dollar campaign fund, so I am obliged to receive millions from corporations. Now I know what most of you are thinking, you think I am dancing to the tune of the corporate interests, but that is not true”. Even though I am a carpetbagger from Virginia, I have grown to love Delaware. Yes, I take all that corporate money, I don’t deny it, but you must know I love ya all”.
