Glenn Beck Begs His Audience Not To Commit Violence

Filed in National by on August 4, 2009

It’s sad that it’s necessary for him to say this, but this is where it’s heading. I think Beck is speaking out too late. Months of screaming about how Obama’s not a real citizen and is going to put everyone in FEMA concentration camps is kinda hard to take back.

What are we supposed to do with them after “we surround them?” Just let them go?

  2. Delaware Dem says:

According to Ronald Kessler, author of “In the President’s Secret Service,” President Obama receives 30 death threats a day, an increase of 400% over Bush. Yeah, I want to hear conservatives say we hated Bush just the same as they hate Obama. Another lie from liars.

Clearly, the blame for this increase lies squarely on the shoulders of Beck and Limbaugh and those like them who have stirred up fears of tyranny and oppression where none exist.

Add to that the blatant and evil racism on the part of many in the Republican Party, and you have the greatest animus directed toward any US President in my lifetime, and one can only pray that it doesn’t result in actual attempts on the lives of President Obama and his family. If it does, we will all be doomed, for I do not see any way to prevent more violence, riots, and even civil war in response.

We already know that the hatred spewed on the airwaves by these conservative leaders is responsible for atmosphere of intense hatred that led to the murders of Dr. George Tiller in Kansas, the members of the Unitarian Church in Knoxville, three policeman in Pittsburgh and the African American guard at the Holocaust Museum.

Perhaps Beck now realizes that he will be responsible for the death of the President due to his own words, and perhaps finally, that has wakened his long dormant conscience.

  3. He was appealing to everyone to stay calm and offer protest but not be stupid and rash.

Here is why people are fearful.

    http://www.breitbart.tv/uncovered-video-obama-explains-how-his-health-care-plan-will-eliminate-private-insurance/

Either Obama is lying or stupid, which is it?

    Mike Protack

  4. xstryker says:

Either Mike Protack is lying or stupid. No, wait. It’s both. More lies about the elimination of private health insurance from a man too stupid to know that we can see through the bullshit.

  5. Progressive Mom says:

People aren’t fearful. They are mad with rage. They are seething. They are crazed and crazy. But they aren’t fearful.

Fear didn’t create the birthie movement or any of these: ” He’s taking away our guns! (NRA)”; “he hates white people (Limbaugh)”; “he pals around with terrorists (Gov. of Alaska & VP candidate)”; “He’ll destroy health insurance companies (Protack)” (And, apparently Protack thinks this is a bad thing).

Offer protest but try not to be stupid and rash? A little late for that tactic.

  6. Beck may be responding to this story about one of his rabid fans, who was arrested scouting and taking pictures of an Air National Guard base in NY. She had an assault rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition in her car.

  7. mike w. says:

“Clearly, the blame for this increase lies squarely on the shoulders of Beck and Limbaugh and those like them who have stirred up fears of tyranny and oppression where none exist.

By that standard Delaware Liberal is responsible for at least some of the death threats against Bush.

  8. mike w. says:

UI – She was arrested for trespassing. It’s not illegal to have guns & ammo in your car.

  9. cassandra m says:

That may be the portion of the show dictated by the FOX lawyers — make sure that Beck says no violence enough so that when it happens they can pretend their hands are clean.

  10. Scott P says:

I tend to agree with cassandra. This way, the next time (and make no mistake about it, there will be a next time) some crazy birther/white supremacist/patriot movement wacko goes out shooting (pick one or more) libruls, gays, blacks, Latinos, Arabs or anyone else, FOX and Beck can pull out the tape and wash their hands of their immense guilt. Then he and BillO can whine some more about how they get picked on all the time.

  11. What do you mean a little late? Beck has been saying this for at least 3 years when he predicted the bust in early 2006. Beck has always been about peaceful change. I guess it doesn’t happen unless you get it from media matters. Glenn Beck is the real deal–a modern Samuel Adams without the beer–, and that scares you all. We are seeing the beginning of the third American Revolution. Unlike the War for Independence and the Civil War, this one will be won peacefully with prayer, protest and political action.

  12. Where do you get the racism stuff? Glenn Beck interrupted David Horowitz when D. H. implied that racial profiling was something imaginary and corrected the record. He pointed out an incident that he was familiar with and said that Black people have good reason to be skeptical of some police. He has never been about racial division. The 9/12 movement is about bringing Americans together regardless of ethnic and other differences. There are legitimate differences and areas where even I disagree with him, but this distortion is a disservice to the public dialog. You guys need to watch Beck for 3 weeks.

  13. Glenn Beck said that Obama had a “deep-seated hatred of white people.” We didn’t force him to say this.

  14. Perry says:

Beck the real deal, David? Sorry, no! He is an anarchist. Anyone who would call President Obama a racist, having deep seated hatred for whites, is rabble rousing and in effect promoting violence. Are you so blinded by your partisan ideology not to see this, you, of all people?

  15. How is that racist? Then Senator Obama wrote in his autobiography that he choose his friends carefully including radical blacks, Marxist professors, and other left wing types. Beck may have concluded from that and Rev. Wright that there is something deeper there. He may be wrong, but that is not some statement from out of the ether. You can’t just dismiss any criticism by calling it racist anymore than people try to take the Gates incident and say the President sided with him because of race. There is too much suspicion on all sides, but a lot of it is because ill conceived words like the those at the press conference feed into it.

  16. Rich Boucher says:

And Glenn Beck would know an awful lot about “ill-conceived words”,
    I’m saying.

  17. cassandra_m says:

Delusional David clearly hasn’t read Obama’s autobiography — and telling everyone that Obama has issues with white people when it is clear that Beck had nothing to back that up is definitely racist.

  18. mike w. says:

Well he clearly has some race-based prejudice, given his statements on the Gates matter.

If GWB had said exactly what Obama did in his speech about a black officer you folks would be screaming racism.

  19. Delaware Dem says:

So he said the police acted “stupidly” and that is enough for Mike W. to call the President racist.

    Unbelievable.

  20. cassandra_m says:

Well no — apparently you haven’t been reading here about this issue. We think that the officer was stupid for not leaving Gates’ house after he got the ID. He had no business to stay and Gates is free to be an asshole in his own house. Like you are free to be a complete idiot from wherever you type from. Otherwise most of the conservative voices here would be pretty solidly in jail.

Saying that someone is stupid is NOT evidence of racism.

  21. I find it highly ironic that the same people that bitch and moan about any gun control laws think it’s perfectly o.k. to arrest someone for disorderly conduct in their own home.

  22. Scott P says:

By far the biggest problem with Glenn Beck is that he is taken seriously by anyone. Like the great and powerful Rush, he is nothing but an entertainer, intent on saying the most outragous things he can just to get attention. It is difficult (and irrelevant) to try and figure out what of the ridiculousness that comes out of his mouth he actually believes. The problem comes when the dangerous things he says re-enforces the preconceived ideas that already unbalanced people have. That’s where militias grow.

  23. Rich Boucher says:

“By far the biggest problem with Glenn Beck is that he is taken seriously by anyone.” – I second this. We could try all day and night to “change” Glenn Beck, but it’s not going to happen. By this point, he is not only a deranged lunatron, but a deranged lunatron with money. He can simply ask security to remove the malcontents from the lobby.

The people that need to be changed, that need to be fixed and corrected are the lunatrons in our own neighborhoods, the actual shithooks who live near and all around us who nod their heads in crazed agreement with Beck. THOSE are the people who need to be taken on, swiftboated, confronted.

  24. Scott, I couldn’t disagree with you more. Glenn Beck is not an entertainer. He is a voice in the wilderness showing this country the way back to greatness. He wouldn’t have written commonsense then insisted it be released as a low priced paperback if he weren’t serious. He would have made a lot more off a twenty dollar hard back which then went into papreback. How much entertaining is going on with the 9/12 project? How much does he make off of it? It costs him; it does not profit him.

What I find inconceivable is that there are people who refuse to take him seriously today. They either have to be blind or dense. The man was right about the war needing to fought differently. He was right about the economic bubble. He was right about the Obama agenda. He was right about the public disaffecting from the establishment. He was right about the economic downturn being longer and deeper than your experts. He was right about oil. He was right about Russia. I could understand if this were three or four years ago and you heard him saying these things that few other saw that you would say that he is just saying outrageous things for attention. Once he was shown to be right when most of the pundits were wrong, no serious person would keep repeating that.

You don’t have to think that he will continue to be right, but you have to give serious consideration to what he says or else you are intellectually tuned out.

You can’t say Peter Schiff is cool but Beck is a lunatic.
50 years from now people will regard Beck as this generation’s prophet who spoke up to save us from economic and cultural disaster. Those who oppose him will be regarded as lightly as those who opposed Garrison and Douglas.

  25. Cass, apparently you must have skipped over that part of his auto. I happen to own one of them. I am more interested in the future not the past anyway. It is what he is proposing that concerns me.

  26. cassandra_m says:

No — you’ve made up the bits that you think support your delusions. As usual. And of course you’d dodge away from your delusions rather than actually backing that up.

ps. And look how Delusional David talks about Beck as the new Messiah! Give me a break. The man is shining you on and laughing at you all the way to the bank.

  27. Rich Boucher says:

“Once [Beck] was shown to be right when most of the pundits were wrong, no serious person would keep repeating that.”

    – Republican David.

Beck was “shown to be right”?! Seriously? When?
Who in their right mind thinks Beck is right?

    David,

Let me spell this out for you: Glenn Beck is a retard,
and worse, one who has been stirring up shit with his
rhetoric over the last few years, and who is only just
now starting to consider the impact his words have
on his viewers and listeners. A little too late.

Trying to understand this, if you are not too busy
BUYING GOLD BECAUSE GLENN BECK THINKS THE END OF THE
    WORLD IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.

  28. Delaware Dem says:

David, with your endorsement of Beck you endorse all he has ever said or will say. Beck’s little disclaimer today is insufficient to inoculate himself or yourself from direct blame if any violence should occur as a result of Beck’s hysterical and racist rants. For now on, Beck and David Anderson are the same person. What he says, you say.

I once considered you intelligent, albeit misguided and theocratic. You are still theocratic and misguided, but not at all intelligent.

  29. Scott P says:

    David,
I’m not sure what else to say but, “Wow”. You understand we’re talking about the Glenn Beck on FOX News, right? Maybe it’s the “News” part that’s throwing you. They mean “news” like the Cheez Wiz people mean “cheez”.

    Everyone Else,
I’m new here, so I just wanted to make sure David’s on the list. You know, when we go out to collect everyone’s guns and throw them in the super-secret FEMA camps. Rats! That’s right. We’ve been found out. We would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for that meddling Beck.

  30. cassandra_m says:

David’s on a list all right — probably a candidate for a straight jacket.

  31. mike w. says:

50 years from now people will regard Beck as this generation’s prophet who spoke up to save us from economic and cultural disaster. Those who oppose him will be regarded as lightly as those who opposed Garrison and Douglas.

This was meant to be a joke, right David?

  32. Jay says:

Republican David, I would like to say thank you for backing up your statements with facts, and not ridiculing the opposing party when they snap back at you, yet instead throwing more facts out there to win the debate. That is one of the qualities I have always admired in the Rep. party. Keep speaking your mind!

  33. Rick_VT says:

I used to watch Glenn Beck a couple years ago, mostly didn’t agree with him but it was an entertaining and interesting view from a completely different angle. In the past year however, he’s turned the crazy knob up to 11 and it broke off. I can’t bear to watch him anymore and anyone that takes him seriously needs to seek professional help or at least turn off Faux News and block the channel for your own sanity.
