   Ironic that you raised this right as I hit the send button for a comment on that other thread.

   No: there is a clear Libertarian argument for public health actions like childhood immunizations.

   I would write it out in detail but I just did so in disowning Wendy Jones’ position on that issue here:

   (Sorry, I usually try to make the arguments here, but I am shoe-horning this in on a workday and don’t have the time to repeat the whole thing.)

   Anarcho-capitalists are not Libertarians, but they hang out around us as the closest people to their views.

   Wendy’s vaccine theory, however, is simply loonie tunes.

   Libertarians who comment around here seem like absolutists to me so I don’t think the question was hyperbole.

   The inability to tolerate levels of meanings and the complex “gray areas” of modern life tends to align them more Republicans and children than anarchists though.

   I see vaccinations as a public health issue, and under the guise of public safety, personally. All information should be available prior to injection, and an informed decision should be made with adequate time to absorb the risk factors for complications and side effects.

   This leads to parents actually taking the time to do their homework, and as I have been pointed out in the past here, my opinion in parental issues is pointless since I don’t have kids.

   At any rate, they have the responsibility to do the homework and protect their kids.

   All parties have an lunatic fringe. The LP’s are a little more visible since the LP is smaller in size.

   Wendy’s opinions on vaccinations are just.. out there. I can’t agree with them, but I do understand that some drug companies are in cahoots with the FDA and there are some improprieties going on that could lead to mistrust of the system.
