The Guide To Republican Excuse-Making

Filed in National by on July 24, 2009

Whenever a Republican gets caught doing something wrong, he or she and their apologists are always ready with an excuse. Here’s a handy-dandy guide to Republican excuse making. Feel free to add your own.

1. Some unnamed liberal of Democrat at some point in time said something mean about George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan. Democrats were mean to Judge Bork. Democrats made Mrs. Alito cry.

2. Robert Byrd, Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton all did something bad once.

3. Lincoln!

4. Dixiecrats!

5. Liberals are just oversensitive and are enforcing political correctness. Liberals don’t have a sense of humor.

This leads to the standard non-apology apology: “I’m sorry that some people were offended…”

6. This doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Really, it all boils down to one excuse: IOKIYAR (it’s ok if you’re a Republican).

  1. The aggressor sets the rules. The Democrats made this partisan world; they have to stop whining about living in it. You people have been attacking people since George Washington. You called Lincoln a black baboon. You called Reagan everything under the sun. You may have been right about King Richard. FDR trashed his opponents in the most incendiary of terms. It just gets worse over the years. The fact that it is coming back is not surprising, just sad.

  2. Art Downs says:

There was a cartoon in the Baltimore Sun that showed a gaunt Abe Lincoln peering from the door
of a boxcar. A car was arching his back at the sight of the frightening creature The car was stencilled: CAPY: 000 and there was a tag reading: “Cargo – Bones”.

Quite a few anti-Bush ads showed him as ape-like.

So is it any worse to refer to Obama as the organ-grinder’s monkey, with Soros calling the tune? PETA may object to this insult to Capuchin monkeys that can be great service animals.

  3. Yeah, it was Democrats that impeached a president for having an affair while they were having affairs themselves. Hey wait…

  4. MJ says:

David, what are you talking about? I didn’t see anyone holding a gun to Dick Armey’s head when he called Barney Frank a fag on the floor of the House. I didn’t see anyone force Cheney to tell Sen, Leahy to go fuck himself. No one forced that ass of a doctor in Florida to send out that racist photo of the President. You sanctimonious, pompous, moralists are free to tell everyone how you feel we should live our lives (what’s morally correct), yet when your “leaders” get caught with their pants down (in an airport men’s room or in Argentina), liberals are faulted and taken to the woodshed by the likes of Beck/Gaffney/Colley/Limbaugh for shinning a light on their hypocrisy. Fail!

    7. That’s not violent rhetoric, it is meant to be funny.

    8. I don’t condemn violent speech because everyone has first amendment rights (until Delaware Dem opens his mouth, of course).

    9. Tax cuts pay for themselves.

    10. Liberal Media!

  6. Personally, I don’t have any use for #5 — screw you if you are offended.

  7. The Liberal Excuse When Caught In A Scandal

    1. Look Incredulous, who me?

    2. Deny it at all costs, lie if you have to.

    3. Make counter accusations even if groundless.

    4. If all else fails, claim victim status.

    5. Remember, for a liberal a lie is as good as the truth if someone believes it.

  8. Progressive Mom says:

    11. Conservatives are always patriotic; liberals never are. The excuse for all behavior is: we’re patriots! So when conservatives threaten secession, that’s patriotic. When conservatives say, don’t pay your taxes, that’s patriotic. When conservatives bash the president, that’s patriotic. When liberals try to get out the vote, that’s communism/facism/socialism.

  9. I’d disagree with your observation on #11. Joe Lieberman is definitely a patriot.

  10. Suzanne says:

    11. I read it in the bible

hey, what’s that over in New Jersey?!?!?

oh never mind, just your typical dems. doesn’t even warrent a post here.

  12. Delaware Republican says:

And you want the government to run health care?

    Who you going to blame?

  13. cassandra_m says:

Will you please keep up, Protack — the government is not going to run healthcare.

You do know that there are blogs who will treat your stupid repetition of RNC talking points as gospel, right? You don’t even need to secure your router to just go over to one of them.
