News Journal Gets Around to Admitting That The Sainted Mike Castle Got Booed

Filed in National by on July 21, 2009

Around 8:00 last night (56 hours after the story broke here in Delaware) the NJ decided to acknowledge the video clip of Castle getting booed by Republicans and being forced to prove that he knows the “pledge of allegiance.”

Castle gets booed

WASHINGTON — Rep. Mike Castle’s recent “listening session” in Georgetown is bringing him YouTube fame, but not because of the topic. It’s because the Delaware Republican got booed after vouching for President Barack Obama’s citizenship.   The video of the June 30 town hall meeting on health care reform shows a woman toting an American flag and her own U.S. birth certificate asking why people are ignoring the president’s birth certificate. She said Obama is a citizen of Kenya, not the U.S.

The crowd applauded and cheered as she yelled, “I don’t want this flag to change! I want my country back!” Castle, attempting to correct her, said, “If you’re referring to the president there, he is a citizen of the United States.”

The crowd then heckled him as he reiterated that Obama is indeed a U.S. citizen. Allegations that Obama is not a U.S. citizen have been refuted by state officials in Hawaii, who say they’ve checked health department records and verified that Obama was born there on Aug. 4, 1961.

Drudge Report linked to the YouTube video on Monday with this headline: “VIDEO: Congressman’s town hall erupts over Obama birth certificate … ”  As of late Monday, the video had generated more than 7,000 hits.

The June 30 forum was one of three Castle held in Delaware, bringing together panelists that included medical experts, patient advocates and local officials to discuss health care reform with constituents.

Psst….Nicole, I posted the video on the morning of the 18th – Just saying. Also, would it kill you to get a quote from Castle ? I’m betting he’s changed his mind about Obama’s citizenship.

  1. It is over 150K hits this morning. I guess they couldn’t ignore the story. Too bad they missed the big story of the persistent cap and tax questions. One person asked about the birth certificate.

  2. Are the birthers getting too crazy to ignore? They seem to be gaining the attention of the MSM now.

I have to agree w/ DA here, it’s quite shame that this foolishness marred a potentially valuable discussion on like… a policy issue. Can somebody who has some credibility with insane southern Delawarean xenophobes please try to embarrass them into sealing themselves up in lead bonb shelters or something?

This clip is humilating to me as a Delawarean and a lucid intelligent human being.

I saw the clip on CNN this afternoon,
and waves of shame at being from
    Delaware flooded through me.

    Please, somebody, ANYBODY,
get me the name and contact info
for that RETARDED WOMAN standing up
    at Castle’s listening session.

For my own peace of mind,
I need to give her a piece of my mind.

Joe Biden brings enough shame to Delaware.
