  1. I’ll bet the clip is causing some heartburn with the national GOP. It is going to be hard to coax Castle into the race if this stuff keeps up.

  2. LOL. I love this part of the article:

So here’s one of the least conservative members of the House GOP conference, in a state that gave the Obama-Biden ticket 62 percent of the vote, and he has to deal with the angry howling of birthers.

Is the national GOP going to do something about the birthers or will they continue to be cowed by the craziest elements of the base?

    UI,

These are heady days for those of us who love it when people (from all over the political spectrum) talk about what a huge wanker Mike Castle is.

Now the NRO has picked up on the clip and they think that is something that Senators should view as cautionary.

  4. Darn it Jason, you’re going to make me click on an NRO link. I can’t stand NRO.

The way these people’s minds work, I think Castle would have come out a big winner if he had come out with a fiery patriotic speech denouncing the birthers, citing respect for democracy and calling theim out for their nutty extremism, and defending his principles. He would have lost half the people in the room, but picked up many more from both parties when the video went viral. It could have been a watershed moment for the GOP and for American politics.

But then again, we are talking about Mike Castle.

  6. For the record, I think the certificate of live birth suffices. He was already a U. S. senator which requires citizenship. I believe that he is legitimate.

So now you have a name for people who want to actually see official documentation. It won’t dog the GOP. It will dog President Obama until he actually releases the documents. It is all on him. He is the first President who is a son of a first generation immigrant as far as I can recall. Questions about his birth documentation is not a surprise. It is not crazy nor is it unreasonable to ask that a man show his constitutional qualification for office. We only have a few. Be a native American who has obtained the age 35 and lived at least 14 years in the United States. Is it too much trouble to show people that you meet them.

We don’t need any of the crap that invades privacy. We don’t need tax returns, medical records, college transcripts, or anything else. We just need truth.

“It will dog President Obama until he actually releases the documents. It is all on him.”

Yes, you undoubtedly are right. I suggest you and all Republicans keep repeating this line of inquiry, no matter what the forum, as an important sign of your intelligence and priorities.

  8. Geezer says:

“But then again, we are talking about Mike Castle.”

Exactly, anon. This is why I think he’ll run for Senate. If he couldn’t stand up to a single lunatic to take control of that situation, how will he stand up to a party leadership full of them when they twist his arm?

  9. anon says:

Can Castle really run for Senate without setting foot in Sussex? I’m tninking the biggest beneficiaries of a Castle run would be SCCOR and the Libertarians.

First David says, “For the record, I think the certificate of live birth suffices.” then he says, “Questions about his birth documentation is not a surprise. It is not crazy nor is it unreasonable to ask that a man show his constitutional qualification for office.”

    Which is it Dave?

    Meanwhile back on planet Earth,

“It’s crazy,” said Janice Okubo, director of communications for the Hawaii Department of Health. “I don’t think anything is ever going to satisfy them.”

Okubo, who said that she gets weekly questions from Obama ‘Birthers’ that are “more like threats,” explained that the certificate of live birth reproduced by Obama’s campaign should have debunked the conspiracy theories. “If you were born in Bali, for example,” Okubo explained, “you could get a certificate from the state of Hawaii saying you were born in Bali. You could not get a certificate saying you were born in Honolulu. The state has to verify a fact like that for it to appear on the certificate. But it’s become very clear that it doesn’t matter what I say. The people who are questioning this bring up all these implausible scenarios. What if the physician lied? What if the state lied? It’s just become an urban legend at this point.”

I love the comments on that Washington Independent article — one guy wants to know where were all of these crazy birthers when GWB was pretending to be Texan……
